aahhh, so tired of waiting for this damn thing... better be worth it. Theres only talk about iphones and ipods everywhere... Come on release the imac, whats taking so long???
I know how you feel, but I'd rather them take their time and get it right than have a bunch of problems.

Thinking...

Obviously if you don't use processor intensive programs or ones that use a lot of memory bandwidth you could go and buy a current one.

But since the new ones are so close why would you not wait?

If I could have waited I would have even though I'm very happy with my Corei7 iMac:

My opinion? As long as you're benching over 10,000 on geekbench you're probably doing just fine.

At this Point you have to WAIT!!

The fact that apple has already put a thunderbolt on its MBP. Getting a system that does not have it on it at this point would be buying something with a timer on it.

We dont know if this tech will take off or not but looking at Apple's History with Firewire, Apple will keep pushing it regardless if PC picks it up or not!! The fact that Intel was the main disginer of it. I would guess that it will be at least put on PC's.

As long as apple keeps pushing it as time goes on. Yes right now, today thunderbolt has little to do yet. In a year from now you would have to guess that there will be a lot more for it. So buying a Mac with out it at this point with it comming out really soon means you are buying something that is missing somthing.

Now if you upgrade your computer every year then Great and go for it with out. But if you wait just a little longer you will more likely have a system that will last longer, if this tech takes off or becomes somthing you need later.

Also not to forget the CPU Speed Upgread is always nice too!!

So what we all thinking currently on iMac announcement date.....who of you are starting to think the month of May, as opposed to March, is a likely candidate?

Since March has past already!! end of April or Early May is what is being said at this point! I am hopeing for mid to late April!

Oooops, of course, I meant April - getting slightly behind myself there. I'm kind of guessing mid May, it's a pure guess but with Easter coming up and all that and the possibility of a FCP product release before then they might string us out that little longer. I'm hoping so as I'm toying with the idea of selling my Core i7 iMac (late 2009 Vsn) and want to make the sale before they announce the new iMacs.

I don't know, the 2.3GHz mobile i7 in the 17" Macbook Pro is benchmarking at 10,100. The new iMacs are going to have a faster clockspeed, plus they are going to be the desktop variants. I would not be shocked to see the new iMacs break the 12,000-14,000 barrier. The difference is my whole current computer! My Mini benches at around 2500.

Well...since March is passed then I am praying it will be mid to late April. My PC just died (hardware issue) and I need a new computer. I'm using my Dell laptop (POS) and I am itching for my first Mac...well iMac.

I've been predicting April 12th for a little while now. Final Cut Studio 4 will premiere at the Super group thingie. So wouldn't it make sense that they show it off on a Quad Core i7 with Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt?

The new iMacs things shipped a few weeks ago and should be in stock at the stores. The 12th is a Tuesday and why not target the Pro App Users with the iMac update? So many high end editing houses use the iMacs, as well as the Mac Pros, that it makes sense to get 2-1 coverage and sell hardware with the new FCP. Final Cut probably doesn't do much for their bottom line, but the iMac is still an important part of what apple does.

So it makes perfect sense to use FCP to show off what the new iMac with Thunderbolt, and perhaps SSD.

See you on Tuesday!

So you're really betting on April 12th? I am looking to purchase my first Mac ever and I was going to go out yesterday to buy an iMac but then I heard new ones would be released soon. Confident with the 12th?

Like anyone, this is just speculation. Before the MBP's were announced we had rumors and packaging pictures about one week before release. I've yet to see anything like that posted. However surprises do happen.

That is true. I'm just really hoping they release it soon. I'm hurting for a new computer. Like I said, this would be my first Mac. I've used PC my whole life and I have been pushed to the limit with them. So I just want to go about buying one the right way.

The 12th seems too optimistic to me. So far we have heard only 1 rumor about the iMacs release date, and it is near or in May.

I personally think we won't see new iMac's until the keynote in June. I'm tempted to buy a base 21.5" because I need something as I'm currently computerless and have been for a while now.

Why June?

It's pure speculation, but thats when I think we will finally see the Sandy Bridge powered iMac's. Especially since Lion is so close. I don't really see Apple releasing an iMac refresh BEFORE releasing Lion, that doesn't make sense IMO.

they are definitely will release new iMacs before Lion and it makes sense - its not smart to push on the market two new products in one package!

If by pure speculation you simply mean guessing then I don't see how that 'speculation' is worth any more than me flipping a coin to decide whether the iMac will be released on a certain day.

So..

You have your opinion, and I have mine. If they come out before June that would be awesome. If not, well.. that wouldn't be awesome, we'll just keep on waiting.

Hasn't stopped Apple from doing so in the past. When the tech is ready in volume, it will be released regardless of the software schedule.

I like to be rational, you don't mind being irrational. Glad we got this covered.

The idea they will wait until Lion is preposterous. It's in Apple's best interest to release before Lion launches so they are able to capture a few more Lion upgrades.

Not to mention there is absolutely no precedent for Apple releasing a new OS and new hardware simulatenously that I'm aware of (at least in recent memory).

Most likely IMAC will be released before Lion. Only reason I say this is because June is WWDC and we know that Lion will be out then, also June-July is usually IPhone update period........too much going on so April-May seems logical for Imac refresh.
