I never said it wasn’t there, I said that it’s been significantly nerfed. There’s no valid reason for Apple to do this, in my opinion.
I’m not saying that you were saying that, just that statements to that effect were made in some posts.

Can anyone invoke the multitasking menu via hard press on the left side? I can’t on my XS Max.

No... you can invoke action menu on home screen or peek into items using long press or 3D touch, but 3D touch used to be able to pop things when pressed harder. That part of feature is gone and 3D touch provides no extra functionality now compared to long press.
This is the correct answer. I am quite surprised that they have taken it out on phones with capable hardware.

I was watching YouTube and they said iOS 13 takes away 3D Touch? Basically the software disables 3D Touch? Is that true?

The hardware for it still there for every iPhone that supports 3D Touch obviously (6s, 7, 8, X, Xs, Xs Max and all Plus models of 6s/7/8) but the software behaves different now. It's now Haptic Touch and you'll get the same on SE and Xr and iPhone 11/Pro/Pro Max (devices that don't feature 3D Touch and only have Haptic Touch which is the lesser of the two if you ask me).

They should have kept 3D Touch in iOS 13 for devices that originally supported it.

For Devices like the SE or Xr and also the new 2019 iPhones Haptic Touch is still pretty nice tho and a nice addition with iOS 13.

I had 3D Touch on my 6s with iOS 9 and 10 and now with the 8 Plus on iOS 11, 12 and suddently it's gone with iOS 13? Not a smart move but i guess Apple wants to unify everything. I understand that it's being cut from future models because the screen is more expensive because of the pressure-sensitive layer and Haptic Touch can do the same thing which is pure software. But they should have kept it on existing 3D Touch iPhones. Again Apple being Apple, unify everything

i was worried about this too. 3D touch was the main reason i splurged for the Xs last year, vs the Xr. But after running the betas...I really dont notice a difference. the UI is a little different...but that's about it. for me at least.

Running ios 13 gm on iphone x. 3d touch functioning alongside haptic touch. Thought I would miss 3d touch but the haptic touch is not bad at all. Haptic touch is just a tad slower and but easier since you don't have to push down hard.

Some 3D Touch features are still available. For example, on the keyboard, you can 3D Touch and move the insertion point instead of longpressing the space bar. On the 6s, you can 3D Touch the edge to activate the multitasking view.

This is so incorrect and it seems people are just spewing off what they read. There is still some 3D Touch specific functionality in iOS13. Namely cursor movement with the advanced 3D Touch text selection. If you've used it and gotten used to it you know what I mean.

An easy way to test is disable 3D Touch in Settings. Then try to use the keyboard cursor. Not even close to the same as the 3D Touch cursor. A simple but noticeable difference is you have to use the spacebar where you can use the entire keyboard with 3D Touch. Additionally, apps that had 3D Touch support specifically (i.e. Facebook and being able to 3D Touch a post/article and you get additional options) still work. Turn it off and it no longer does.

This is what kills me the most. I loved the cursor anywhere feature. Now I end up typing random crap by swiping or hitting keys because it doesn't work like it used to. I have to press and hold the keyboard. Like on the iPad or other devices with NO 3D Touch.

BS. It's NOT 3D Touch. It's a LONG press. Trust me. It's not even close to what it was with 3D Touch. For the love of all things holy, please stop spreading those lies.

What? Those things work with 3D Touch. There is no long press anywhere in the keyboard to bring up the cursor, and there is no long press on the left edge to switch to the last app or bring up the app switcher.

To be clear, these are the pop up menus. The peek/pop option of safari links (for example) are gone. So different menus with different pressures on the screen seems to be gone.
Yeah, I noticed on the Xr that the “peek” works and brings up a contextual menu. I’m surprised Apple didn’t implement something for the pop.

People are spreading so much confusion. The keyboard cursor works exactly the same on a 3D Touch phone running 12 or 13. Press hard anywhere on keyboard to move cursor. Press hard again to select text

Something else of note are the camera and flashlight icons on the home screen. I cannot launch them with a normal touch, or long press, I need to 3D Touch to launch them. Meaning, press down with force same as turning the keyboard into a trackpad.

They do work, but I just saw a comparison with iOS 12: they are way slower. They work with 3D Touch, at haptic touch speeds. It's awful.

I hope they bring it back at some point. Boo.
Unfortunately, I think 3D Touch is gone for good, not only on new iPhones, but on every single iPhone that has it so far. It's been so crippled that it isn't worth it anymore.

Those things work at about the same speed they worked at before.

Sad. When the Xs and Xr were announced, my wife and I compared features. One of the reasons (not the only reason) we chose to get the Xs was 3D Touch. My wife loves it and uses it all the time. Hard press and an appropriate menu pops up for app specific actions. Also the keyboard actions are very useful. So, Apple is abandoning 3D Touch and we feel cheated! If Haptic does not behave the same way as 3D in iOS 13 then Apple has screwed all the folks who spent extra money to get that feature!

If I long press on the letter “h” nothing happens. If I long press on the letter “i” I get a character select menu. If I 3D Touch on any letter, I get to move the insertion point. With Haptic Touch, I have to long press the space bar to move the insertion point.

In addition: if I invoke 3D Touch, and push hard again, I can select a word. If I move the insertion point then I can move the drag handles. However, if I begin by using Haptic Touch, I cannot select words by pushing on the display and I cannot select words at all or invoke the drag handles—for those features i must begin with 3D Touch.

So as far as keyboard mechanics go, 3D Touch is preserved.

Did you just read what you posted? Can you imagine a regular person understanding or trying that? Lol
