At this point, it seems pretty clear that despite the fact that the order is replacing your defective computer (which it would've been nice if they had some stock on-hand for these situations), unfortunately, they don't have your model in stock and so you're in the same queue as if you had ordered a new one 14 days ago.

If you check out the massive "Pre-Order" thread which is everyone comparing their estimated delivery dates and following the movement, the general timeline is: about 1-2 weeks before your estimated delivery window, status changes from "Processing" to "Preparing to Ship". Once it ships, and ppl get their tracking numbers, it takes about 4-7 days to clear customs in China (that's the delay right now, hopefully in a few weeks this part clears up), then it moves from Incheon, Korea to Anchorage, Alaska to Louisville, Kentucky in about 24-48hrs (assuming UPS and you're in the US). And then your computer is generally on a truck for delivery 2 days later.

So it's probably not worth the mental stress of checking every day. And just waiting until post-Thanksgiving / late November, when it's more likely there'll start to be some movement. It's a bummer that you're out of a laptop all this time, but unfortunately your situation is one of the unfair downsides of this supply-chain-logjam environment we're in.
I question the published delivery times. Based on what exactly? Tea leave readings? And what is causing the delay? Interesting that during hours of calls; talking to tech, sales (pre AND post), service AND AppleCare (I purchased AppleCare+), not ONE person relayed any info regarding delays due to chip/ram/drive/screen shortages. In fact, I was told last Wed, that it would ship in "a couple of days", and that once shipped, it would take 2-4 days. The info you are relating, and someone from Apple Insider, claims chip shortages. I will continue to press Apple. It's not our responsibility to to investigate these sorts of issues. I am soon to place my second payment. They should be telling me, "Sir, we are experiencing chip shortages. Our suppliers have said to expect delivery in one to three weeks. However we cannot guarantee their claims. And sorry to say, as you know, we are not in a position to guarantee the quality of their product. If you receive a defective unit, we will first attempt to blame the shipper. IF after a hands-on inspection by our techs, it becomes clear it is a quality issue on our end, we do not have the resources to honor any warranties or guarantees; without at least a month or so of delays. WE are so over-confident that our product is perfection personified, we literally do not have ONE replacement worldwide, in case anyone encounters a defect. Nope. Not one." Now THAT would be honest.

I agree. I will stop posting updates. IF they are being honest re: current wait times; and IF they are being honest that I was put in front of the queue, with a shipping time of 2-4 days; then I predict that it will be shipped on Dec 9, delivery of Dec 15.

But the issue of Taiwan looms. What if the CCP makes good on their promise to take Taiwan? They're already sending fighter jets.

I will only post changes.

Good luck to my fellow waiting customers...

I think it's less the chip shortages at this point, and more the freight / transportation / logistics issues that are prevalent worldwide. Trust me, there are tons of frustrated ppl in the Pre-Order thread when even after it Shipped (and ppl had already waited a long time for that in itself), it would go into a black hole in ZhengZhou China for anywhere from 4-7 days. A few ppl who spoke with UPS got the color that there seemed to be some customs clearance delays in China, and everything was backed up. Once it gets out of China, it actually moves pretty quickly. It happened to me (I just got my 14" M1 Pro last week, that I ordered 15mins after site went live)!

No excuse on Apple giving you "false promises" and misleading you into thinking it would ship in a couple of days and you'd be put at the front of the queue. And I definitely feel your frustration that you're making payments on your laptop that through zero fault of your own, you don't have in your possession. I'd be pretty pissed myself too. Just a bad situation overall. Apple probably should have kept some stock of even the BTO-configs for these kinds of issues, so exchanges could be done asap, but I guess they chose to just allocate the stock for new purchases / orders.

Just showed up today. Ordered on Oct 19th, no updates to status until Nov 17th, rapid movement from China to Korea, Anchorage, Kentucky then here to Ontario.

Just setting it up now. Wont have any idea how much better it is than my 2012 until I start hammering it with wav files, virtual instruments and all manner of recording madness. I'm sure it's much faster.

Hope y'all get yours in a reasonable time.

It's finally THE week. I fly into the States on the 24th, early in the morning. Will have my hands on it sometime after I arrive home! Man, knowing it's been there since the 11th has been torture!

As promised, I am reporting an actual update. I called Apple tonight, Nov 22. I really wanted to find out why it's taking so long. Any honest answer is good with me. The dang thing has been processing since the 3rd. We are speculating as to the reasons. But I feel that having spent from two to six grand (over three in my case), we should be entitled to honest answers. I spent time on the phone tonite first with Sales, then she transferred me to Service. They both apologized for the info given two Wednesdays ago, that it would ship in a few days, and once shipped, would arrive in 2-4 days. The person from Service was very understanding, but could offer no explanation as to the long wait time. She agreed that three weeks processing was long... She put me on a queue to receive a call from a supervisor. That was six hours ago. Nothing. HOWEVER; about 30m ago I got an email reporting it has shipped via UPS and will deliver on Dec 6!!! YEAH !!! My order page also moved from processing to "shipped", but still says, "Arrives Dec 8 - Dec 15". So I'm going with the email! Was it a coincidence? I choose to believe that the Supervisor decided to act on my behalf, rather than call me. But I am certainly happy it finally is in the "shipped" mode. The UPS tracking number doesn't work yet; so thus begins the nerve-racking "track the shipment out of China to the US" experience again. The first time it took from Oct 18 to the 25th to go from processing to shipping. But once it got to shipping, it took from Oct 25 to Nov 1 to get here via UPS. Finally! I assume others got shipped as well. So it begins. Good luck everyone!

So now, it's a whole new thing:

"Ordering a new Apple MacBook Pro; the gift that keeps on giving!!"

36hrs ago, I got an email that it shipped!!! Yes!!! Three weeks of "processing" and it finally shipped. Delivery listed in the email and phone message as Dec 6. On "Orders" at Apple's website, it says "Arrives Dec 8 - Dec 15".

But still, 36hrs later, I get this from UPS. Can anyone shed some light? Over 36hr?

Unfortunately, looks like this same issue is happening with a couple others, see these 2 recent posts from the mega-thread. There's probably some miscommunication between Apple and UPS right now, maybe because of Thanksgiving Week / Black Friday shopping & delivery craziness.

8 hours on and off in bed with the 14" Max 64 gig.

The only thing that even made it warm was an Xcode unzipping.

What a great experience. no fan noise. not hot at all. my old MacBook pro 13" intel would heat up so much and then the fans would go. and go.

too hot for a lap. I never thought I would have a "laptop" again.

M1Max = dream so far.

Does this mbp has any fans at all?
I have 16' 2021 model, and I cannot tell!
Even with great heat waves in the places I have been this summer,
I did not heard any fans.
I really wonder if they do exist at all.

Do something that uses lots of CPU e.g. a Handbrake convert of a large 4K video and you should hear the fans.

Or you could install MacFanControl and set the fans to full blast temporarily just to see that they work.

Apple always tunes their fans to almost never come on at expense of the laptops getting hot. (2019 16" especially).

The M1 models are much better, but I find on warmer days or in my lap it can get a bit warm. I set a custom fan profile on my M1 Max 16" to actually set fans to super low (2000-2200rpm) if it hits 50c or so to keep it cooler in my lap. They still stay pretty inaudible.

(using istat menus for this)

Yeah, mine only turn on when in clamshell mode connected to dual 4K displays and doing some a bit of heavy lifting.

I'm quite happy with mine! Without any displays I only saw them starting up this summer while I had the AC broke and there was 35c temperature where I live.

Other than that I never see them starting up.

They have two.

I can make them come on with my 14, but only doing heavy rendering workload or gaming.
