I might have missed it, but any idea if the new MBP will have an SD card reader?

I was off the grid for a week, and just came back to see the 10/18 Apple event announced. Can't wait.

Rumoured that SD, MagSafe charging and HDMI will all be making a return :)

According to rumors, it will. Always taken with a grain of salt though.

My personal opinion is that any games that are unable to run on the M1X, will be inhibited by the graphics before it becomes inhibited by the 16gb of RAM. But that's my personal opinion, others may disagree. I can't really foresee a game requiring 32gb of RAM to run smoothly in this generation.
I’ve had to put 32 gigs of swap for my MBP with 8 of RAM for Star Citizen not to crash ?. With my PC with 16 I didn’t have any problem though.

Apple had plenty of time to catch up though. They were suppose to be release in the summer but they had 2-3 more months to catch up.
I was thinking that too — however — Since DylanDKT's track record seems spot on, it could be that this late October launch was the plan all along. I'm noticing on Apple's website, that the availability of the 16" is now November 2nd. This would fall in line with the expectation that there's still some time with the release candidates for Monterey & loading final build on the new MacBook Pros.

So, are you saying pre-order’s are not going to open up right away after the event?

It won't be like iPhone where Apple says "pre-orders start Friday at 8:00 AM." As soon as the event is over on Monday, you'll be able to put in an order for a new MacBook Pro. It just won't ship for a week+, if that makes sense.

Monday is not going to be messy. It's going to be just like every other Apple event.

Just for point of reference dylandkt on Twitter, who has a pretty good (not perfect) track record, said last year these MacBook Pros with M1X were coming in the 4th quarter 2021 & followed up in the late spring with a more definite time frame which is bearing out.

I don't think they'll open up orders on Monday. This is such an anticipated product yet supply issues for key components are apparently going to hurt delivery times. It's more than likely if you don't order immediately you'll be waiting until just before Christmas time for your laptop, especially if you order a custom config. If they open up orders immediately after the event only the enthusiasts will be ready to order and the Macs will very quickly show November-December delivery dates for everyone else. I think seeing such a delay in delivery would prevent people from ordering.

Friday orders let more customers figure out what their spec is gonna be and builds anticipation online. Everyone will have a preferred spec ready and everyone (even the casuals) will know if they don't get their order in quickly they might not get their laptop in time (same thing happens with iPhones every year).

Good thought process. I hope you’re right.

I’m confused by the flow of this post. Where did Dylan say they’d be available for order the day of the event and not that Friday?

of course it wasn’t going to come back at WWDC. They barely had announced Monterrey then, and if any new hardware required Monterrey to use it, you’d be stuck with a crippled machine for 5 months.

Very good point! Hopefully you are right. I just hope Apple opens up the 💻 order next Friday. I don’t care what time as long there is a fixed date and time. It should be good.

Maybe Apple’s original plan was to introduce the 💻 during WWDC and have the pre-order started on a later date? However chip shortage occurred. I don’t think Apple was ready. Now, Apple has had plenty of time so hopefully supply is not going to be an issue.
