UK, ordered my i7 on Friday 13th, and now after 7 days, I can no longer "cancel" the order...so finally some progress. See how it goes.

How long after it reads prepared for shipping until they actually give you a date and ship?

Actually about 5 hours for me. Apple's site took about 12 hours to update, but based on my tracking information supplied by FedEx, my iMac was picked up about 5.5 hours after Apple's website changed my status to "Prepared for shipment".

I just called Apple on an unrelated issue and asked to check the status of my order while I was on the line. I was put through to someone named Catherine who sounded very much like she didn't know what she was doing (joking around with co-workers, not realizing that her keyboard wasn't working when she typed in my order number, etc.).

She literally just read me, word for word, what the Apple order status page said about my order anyway. This is what my order status page looks like:
2009-11-20_-_18.09.41.png

And this is what she said to me: "Well, it looks like your Apple Remote is going to ship within 3-5 business days and should get to you some time before November 25th, but your iMac, well, we've gotten a lot of orders for iMacs, but hopefully we'll be able to have it out to you by December 1 and you should get it by December 4." At this point, I just really didn't want to deal with her anymore, so I just thanked her politely and hung up.

Does anyone have any advice for prying more detail out of Apple over the phone about specific order information that's not going to be posted on the web site (why it's taking so long, what a more reasonable time estimate might be, etc.)? I know some people in the thread have gotten some answers from them about this, so I'd appreciate knowing what tactics they used.

(Some background: I ordered on Nov 16, 2009 at 06:51 PM PST, and my order has been "Not yet shipped" and has not changed one bit since it went through.)

same with mine...

Hasn't moved from the Origin scan status in the two days since I received the shipping email. Supposed to be delivered on Monday, and its Saturday in China now. seems unlikely
I wonder whether they're holding all the Canada-bound ones until whatever extra inspection that mine encountered has passed? I notice that my package no longer has a delivery date. :(

Maybe I should call UPS.

It's approximately 7:30AM on a Saturday in Shanghai... Does anyone know from experience if their iMac changed to "Prepared for Shipment" over the course of a weekend? I'm certain they're probably manufacturing them on weekends, but would they be catching flights out of the country on a weekend??

I wonder this because I know that I've had FedEx and UPS pick up packages or receive package information over a weekend, it's just the actual final delivery they never do on weekends (except some Saturdays for some services)... I just want to know if I should even have the slightest hope that my iMac will be in America by Monday...

Just got off the phone from UPS.

The lady told me that the shipment is in transit between Shanghai and Kentucky. It has apparently been precleared. From Kentucky, it will go to Mount Hope (Hamilton airport), and then Toronto. But... estimated delivery has been delayed till Thursday! Aiiee! Any day but Thursday! I'll probably be out of town during the afternoon.

I hope UPS updates their tracking website soon.

Edit: the Canadian UPS phone number is 1-800-PICK-UPS (1-800-742-5877)

At least yours says something. I ordered on Oct 31 and mine still says "Not Yet Shipped" with no estimated shipping or delivery date. You wont get anything sane out of the orders help people, they can only see what you can see. I have called them nearly every day for the last week and had no usefull help at all. Im on day 22 of waiting, so your 4-5 days probably isnt so bad. Where are you? If you are in AU then its likely your unit is coming over on the 24/25th with the rest of the bulk orders.

BTW, if you email the support people to make a complaint about slow shipping, you get an automated response email telling you they are busy, and will get back to you in 7 days. Ironic huh..

THUUURSday? What the --

Thanks for following up on this, though. I'm still hopeful this wave will arrive before Thursday. Good thing they've been pre-cleared.

I'm gonna go hit my self over the head with frying pan now. "Thursday," she says. Mutter mutter...

I wonder if I'll get it a day earlier because I'm in Hamilton?

And thats pretty bad service from UPS since I have 2-3 day shipping!
I can't really complain because I was upgraded for free, but its now going to take longer than a week to ship. If I had paid the extra $40 for expedited shipping I'd be furious!

Komiksulo I think my iMac is on the same shipment as yours:

MOUNT HOPE, ON, CA 19/11/2009 13:01 PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE / BROKERAGE RELEASED SHIPMENT. SHIPMENT IS SUBMITTED TO CLEARING AGENCY FOR FURTHER CLEARANCE

Guess I don't need to phone them anymore, they'll probably give me the same answer...My iMac was shipped on the 16th and I'm in Vancouver, so you'll probably see yours before mine.

I'm actually in the Washington DC area of the US. I'm sorry to hear about your 22 days of waiting. I'm a horribly impatient person at the best of times but I'd really be suffering right now if I were you so I can certainly sympathize.

Certainly is!

Wow. I think you've been shafted!? I ordered an i7 on the 12th and I'm to get it before Thursday (26th).

Even when I called Apple about it they said their order system works on a first come, first serve basis so any delays in my order was because there was a heap of orders since October being completed still!

I'd be asking questions mate!

We have been asking questions. We've just been getting BS answers. Like I said, the Apple rep I spoke with explained to me that the reason my order placed on the 12th was still showing "Not Yet Shipped" even though the online store shows "shipping in 5-7 business days" is because they only promised "in November" at the time I placed the order.

So the "first come, first serve" explanation you got is a load of hooey. They ramped up production and lowered shipping estimates for new orders only. Those of us with shipping estimates of "November" get moved down the list since they have time to work with while still fulfilling their promises to us.

Yep you hit the nail on the head. Its like they put our (often pre-orders) to the side to deal with the new orders as that have been promised 3-5 days where we have "november".

I personally think that this is pathetic that they cannot (or will not) do anything about it. Do they just expect us to say "ohh well yeah i guess it did say november, so its fine that everyone who orders weeks after me can get theirs, as long as mine arrives in November"? Maybe waiting an extra day or two to send out the preorders before changing the online shipping estimate for new orders would be a simple answer - who knows - honestly thought that that is the principle of pre-ordering???

November is fast coming to an end, and my order still says "not yet shipped" with no indications. Im told (unofficially) it will ship from Shanghai on the 25th November so it has 6 days to get to me after that.

The worse thing about his whole debarcle is when you call Apple to ask what is going on. I have had every excuse under the sun, but none that were consistent or offered any credibility. Saying that they are not shipping when they obviously are, or that they are not making them due to lack of parts - when others are being sent out is indicative of how out of touch they are from the real world where people can get information fast and on demand..

Apple wont fix this, or offer us any sympathy let alone empathy. If our orders turned up with free applecare, or something it would soften the blow but at the moment we are just hoping that our orders do turn up eventually and are not smashed or dead pixels etc...

Im happy that others are receiving their orders and hold no bad feelings towards the actual people getting them, its apples issue and its frustrating that they will not address it.

When I ordered mine it said "Ships November" and that stayed on the order right up to the day it shipped. In the meantime the online store went from 7-10 days to 5-7 but when this didn't change on my order I called Apple a couple of times as I noticed they were quick to bill me for bits and pieces on my order but not actually provide a status update. Randomly, one of the things I was told was that orders placed before the 31st will be delivered around the 26th.

He also said if my order didnt change status after 7 business days, I should call back and they will expedite the order. Have you tried getting them to do that?

Just out of curiosity, what country are you in, Dvtch?

We in Japan and Australia seem to be getting the biggest shaft at the moment.

Australia. Not even a capital city. (not like that matters at all, but still).

Wow! You should play the lottery. You're lucky! It seems to be a total crapshoot with Apple's shipping.

Thanks for your details though. It is interesting to see the varied shipping experiences among the quad core purchasers.

Applecare goes from the purchase date, by the way. So I might not even get my machine until November 30th (or worse) but my Applecare will expire promptly on November 12th. :(

You are welcome. Who knows though, my luck might be short lived. I might get it but it will have some of the screen issues I've been reading about/seeing.

About the Applecare, you should try your luck at getting them to compensate you on that one. Tell them your situation! Remind them it's hardly fair you lost a month or so of your coverage because they took forever to ship the goods!

Yep apparently i am getting express shipping or something, not that it really matters after a month!

I saw your next post too, i hope you dont have the screen issues and everything works out for the best :)
Just checked my status then, still at not yet shipped. I hope it changes soon so that it makes this next shipment.
