My replacement computer was shipped almost instantly via TNT after I complained about my DOA (bravo to Apple, they didn't even wait for my return to scan in), but now it's stuck in Netherlands for almost 24 hours.

It seems to take longer to come from Holland to Switzerland than it took from China to Holland. And my previous (DOA) one whizzed through Holland in a matter of hours.

Is anyone else in Europe experiencing transition delays? Maybe it's the beginning of the X-mas backlog...

who is wourse

Don't know who is worse UPS or FED EX. I usually get stuck with ups. However this time I got FED EX. This isn't my first fed ex either. I recall the other deliveries sucked too. This one still waiting on, was suppose to be here by 1030 am, 1+30 ago. I called shortly after 10:30 because when i checked the tracking it stopped saying by 10:30. The woman on the line lied right to my face, telling me plane had mechanical trouble. Lol I worked a mid night last night and I tracked down the flight. I used the departure time and found the exact flight while it was airborne. tracked it till it landed in newark nj. at 209am
The fedex site updated my tracking info as being in newark at that time bingo! I had the correct flight. So now i know she is full of it, plus there own tracking told me it landed and was received at 221am who she think she was fooling. Then not wanting to curse her out, I just asked ok, when will it get here then, in which she replied trucks running 30 mins late. I said ok so I definitly have by 11 am. Yes she said lol its 12:08 nothing yet. Don't know if its even worth calling them back.

Ordered on Nov 06.

From
CN 16/11/2009 1:02 BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

to
CONCORD, ON, CA 25/11/2009 5:46 OUT FOR DELIVERY

It should be delivered today, ending two and a half weeks of anticipation and dread. I'll believe it when I see it. Even then I may not believe it. :p

I'm hoping for no damage.

UPDATE:

It's here! :D

There was a small cut on the carton and a crease in the iMac's box itself, but everything else appears alright. I'm going to let it warm up and try it out.

* fingers still crossed there aren't any issues with it *

It's here

Arrived about 2pm. Unpacked and new +4GB memory installed before first switch on. All good. Not a single dead pixel, screen great, super silent even when going full whack on handbrake.

Only thing I have struggled with is doing a fresh install of Snow Leopard. It just hangs when I boot to the disc. So, no fresh install - I have cracked on with all of the installs. Nearly there :)

Mine has estimated delivery tomorrow, but tracking on tnt says it still is in Netherlands (has been there for 48h) and it suppose to be delivered in Norway. Is that possible? Its currently in Arnhem Hub. arg, im getting stressed. I am expecting it tomorrow and gonna be so sad if its not showing up. I cant even call tnt since they closed 5.30pm and its currently 9.43pm in Norway.

Yep, exactly the same thing for me (I'm in Switzerland). Stuck in Arnhem. In reality though, it may be stuck at customs.

Last time, it took my iMac 2 days to travel from Arnhem to my home, with TNT tracking notes like "congestion en route, recovery action underway".

Then i quess it doesnt show up tomorrow. darn, and i was so stoked. If its not here by friday im getting pissed. they allready used 16 days shipping it.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Delivery tomorrow.

I was excited to see 'out for delivery this morning whilst at University. However when I got home I noticed that only two of three parcels had been delivered. The remote and apple care are here. No iMac though. Fearing the wost I contacted UPS to find out what had happened. They said that my iMac was at the Depot, it had been on a separate truck which had been late and as such had not got onto today's delivery van. They assure me I will have it tomorrow at the very latest. Pity I'm waaay too busy to properly sit down with the computer till Monday!!

Oh well, at least the wait is over. After 1 month 4 days. 8 Phonecalls, 1 automatic Cancellation, about 400 visits to this thread, 20 or so posts in this thread, god only knows how many visits to the apple delivery status page.

I just hope now it's not DOA....

16 days?!

My last one shipped Monday Nov 16 and arrived morning of Thursday Nov 19. This replacement shipped Monday Nov 22, so I was kinda expecting it tomorrow Thursday morning (it was tracking 20 mins ahead of my last week's DOA delivery all the way till it got stuck in Arnhem). I guess now I'm talking Friday / Monday the earliest...

It's here. And it works. :)

No DOA, no cracked glass, no dark screen, no screen yellowness, no dents on the box. I switched on the mouse and keyboard and then the computer. The intro video with all the flying words, and then the New Mac routine ran. Then Software Update wanted to update a few things, so I let it run. After a reboot, there was a pause of thirty seconds or so until the pointer responded to the mouse. (Is that normal, or is that a one-time thing after the update?)

Now to see about moving my stuff over from the other computer.

Hey Papajz, did you get it at last? Don't they let you call the drivers at UPS/FedEx? Here in Japan, the major couriers will give you the cellphone number of the driver of the truck with your delivery and you can call them to get an exact estimate or make special delivery arrangements, etc.

UPS and FedEx need to get with the times.

Moving a Mirror Software RAID to a new iMac

Cross posted form the Aussie thread.......

On a side note, anyone here know how to move a RAID mirror to my new iMac? On my current machine I have 2 WD external USB drives (1TB) in RAID mirror, done through Disk Utilities.

I am looking for advice on the correct way to move this to my new machine. Do I simply plug them in, and OSX does the rest? The data is very valuable, and I don't really have enough space to copy it all / back it up before I move it. Being a mirror, it is essentially is my backup.:confused:

You may find some answers in this thread.

If not, I'd recommend you post a separate thread of it's own for best results. :)

Just a final update, done my time machine restore and the thing is up and running. a few notes:

  1. It's worth the wait, this thing is seriously gorgeous
  2. The screen looks huge, but after a while of using it you're just used to it, my 15" MBP seems tiny, instead of my 27" iMac seeming big
  3. The change the startup disk to your mac works to improve boot times, I swear it's not placebo, the apple logo took like 10 seconds to appear, and now it is within 3.
  4. Btw, reading these forums sometimes get you a little paranoid. No problems at all with my machine, slight yellowish tint in the bottom but i'm not bothered by it, I can't really tell unless i'm looking for it

Enjoy your new iMac!

Nov 24, 2009 10:27 AM Left FedEx origin facility SHANGHAI CN
Nov 24, 2009 10:24 AM Picked up SHANGHAI CN
Nov 23, 2009 9:20 PM Shipment information sent to FedEx

Not sure what my computer is doing in Shanghai, but whatever it is, it seems to be having fun doing it. Still on target for November 27 delivery, though...

Hmm that's very strange, because mine is targeted for the following Monday yet my tracking information is similar to yours. I missed a "cutoff" on the 23rd, yet mine still moved around the 23-25 in Shanghai, and then it was in Anchorage AK overnight.

It then shipped out from Anchorage at 3:10PM their time.

What confuses me is that we have an intersecting item... "Nov 25, 2009 8:46 PM In transit SHANGHAI CN" so it seemed to have been on the same ride at some point, yet when you posted this info I think mine had already shown itself to be in Alaska. And of course what is more confusing is mine was estimated to be delivered next Monday instead of this Friday, which upsets me greatly. Also I am in Ohio, and you are in Maryland though our geographic proximity to Alaska doesn't necessarily mean anything.

I'm just hoping now that my package still moves over Thanksgiving day and I'm surprised with a Friday delivery. I imagine when they say they are shutdown on Thanksgiving that they mean just the guys that come to your door... I would have to assume they have trucks driving to and fro airports, before it gets to the last stop at a FedEx center near your home...

I wish I knew now what hub the package is flying in to, or if it's making several relays to get as close as possible... Could give me some hope, if it were to land at CMH (I'm extremely close to the airport). Or even in TN or KY, with a truck moving them North all day Thursday. Argh!

I used Migration Assistant to move my stuff over. Programs, settings, icons, everything! I didn't even have to reinstall things! It just took a few hours. The whole process was much easier than migrating a Windows installation to a new computer.

Time for me to bow out of this thread. :)
