Night shift in .4 beta 1, macOS getting closer to iOS.
And ApFS also comes to iOS.

?

And that's related to the Mac Pro how?

Apple said numerous times that macOS and iOS will always be separate entities. I guess for laptop users it makes sense to have Night Shift on their computer as well.

Well, just the "Hello Again" catch phrase had us creaming our pants for a few days not too long ago. We would take anything to pass for a rumor I have to admit.

Frankly, I don't find it surprising at all. iOS is first citizen, and has been for a while.

Eh, you are reading too much into it. APFS is currently in macOS sierra. Apple's use of APFS as the default FS in iOS has nothing to do with iOS being a "first citizen" only that there are much fewer demands of the FS in ios. No external storage to interact with, no fusion drives, its only implemented on SSDs, etc.

While there are some instances you can point to where Apple has prioritized iOS, this is not one of them.

Hey guys, I know there is only one month and a half left for the next Apple event in March and 5 months for the WWDC but I sadly believe at this point that there will be no Mac Pro update this year. I am still keen to wait until June however I have been thinking on getting a second hand Mac Pro 6.1.

I have found a place on internet in UK called Create.Pro that sells custom second hand Mac Pro 6.1 and it is very tempting to get one of them and not wait any longer! what do you guys think ? Have you heard of Create.Pro? Are they a solid and reliable company? They offer a 3 year Return to Base Warranty.

I could get a 12 Core for 5,874 euros or a 8 Core for 4,674. Both configurations with 64 GB of RAM, 512 Flash storage and Dual D300.

I would use it mainly for large scale Music Composition.

Also would there be a big difference between 12 core and 8 core in terms of number of instrument tracks with sample libraries handling?? Which one would be better for music composition?

truthfully, 6,1 isn't bad. It's for certain apps. Are you doing editing and stuff like that?

It sounds like you're doing orchestral work. The 12-core will handle more instrument tracks than the 8-core but I haven't seen any data specifically comparing the two and a DAW so I'd have to go by the Geekbench multi-processor score which is about 10 to 15%.

If you have the money it's probably best to go with the more powerful machine. If you're not already, you can, using Vienna Ensemble Pro, build a Master/slave(s) setup using two or more computers. This is an excellent way to go if you are working with large orchestral instrument templates. You can find out more about this at Vienna Symphony Library.

Dear Tim,

Since your roadmap for great desktops is too slow for me, I just spent a lot of money in a very powerful workstation that will be very useful in my profession for the next 6 years. Therefore I do not need to worry about a new Mac pro until 2023. By that time, if you have something at a real "Pro" level and not just marketing, I might even consider Apple again.

Kind regards,

You wrote this thinking he cares. He doesn't. Timmy is all about the iPhone.

"Abandoned by Apple" was the context.

What's the current version of OpenCL? (2.2) What does OSX support? (1.2)
And yet, you wanted to establish "true, reliable, simple benchmarks, that can every vendor support. But that won't happen until ATI supports CUDA".

Who is moving the goalpost now?

Sarcasm, of course.
Nope, it wasn't.

The GPGPU industry needs to move beyond naïve performance claims based on clock speeds and shader counts, and establish useful, comparative benchmark standards for delivered performance.

And definitely remove the "per watt" from most claims. It's not irrelevant, but it should be a footnote in the perf reports. Many people are primarily concerned about absolute performance, and put power consumption as a minor concern.

But, that won't be useful until ATI supports CUDA.
