Besides, we will very likely see the new iMacs and the refreshed MacBook before a Mac Pro. I expect another sneak peek at WWDC. After all, if they want a nMP to work, they will have to focus a bit more on how to exploit a double GPU configuration.

I wonder if they will stay with the dual GPU configuration - it hasn't really proven to be all that useful and it is not clear (to me anyway) that Metal is making it any easier to exploit multiple GPUs.

I agree. It is quite depressing that it is not usual a dual GPU stock machine in the Windows world, but still, Windoze runs better than Mac OS on the 6,1.

That's why it is the perfect place to present the 7,1 with a promise of a reviewed set of libraries within 10.13, maybe?

Let me dream a bit :))

GPGPU is getting more and more interesting. AMD is starting the core war. Apple is investing in AI and already deployed Deep Learning in Photos... I think they are all signs for a future of multiple GPUs Pro computers.

If that is the case, I suggest maybe not waiting, but at least watching features and scalability of Vega GPUs.

Agreed. A WWDC reveal, if not actual launch, seems the most prudent place to do it.

I'm personally hoping for some indication at NAB, especially if they want to keep what video interests they have that haven't abandoned/jumped ship yet.

Doesn't have to be a teaser or full reveal, even a movie poster/date pointing to wwdc could stem the bleeding.

Do you really think that after years of neglect a nice poster will "stem the bleeding"?

I would suspect that many of the people still using Apple gear will be at NAB to explore their options - and if they are "exploring" they've probably realized that a platform change is necessary.

Apple stopped caring about NAB back in 2008, almost 10 years ago. They used to have the biggest booth in the show, now it's a private demo at a hotel somewhere with the FCPX user group.

Honestly, if you're going to NAB to look at gear, you already plan or are planning on getting a PC.

I don't disagree with you, but see NAB as a possible venue for a controlled leak prior to WWDC. I doubt we'll hear anything in the rumored March/April event in regards to the Mac Pro (granted the way Tim defines the way we see Apple involved in the "Pro" arena is up for debate). Also I would argue a silent release wouldn't do anything for them, like the quiet Tuesday updates we used to see in the 2000-2010 era.

Apple really has the next 4 months to make a serious move, even if availability is in the second half of 2017. To the apologetics saying CPUS & GPUS aren't ready, no one is really buying that anymore. Apple has in the past held some private sessions even if it is in a private hotel venue to preview/demo and leak some information. A crumb from the table would be more promising than nothing, granted even discontinuing the Mac Pro at this point would be more welcome than nothing.

The truth is many have already left and if they haven't are really researching and planning their exit strategies. I know I have. In the past Apple has really promoted the "creative Pro" with their Final Cut Studio and more recently FCPX offerings, demoing the power of the tube Mac in a black box, with Pixar (IIRC) and others was at least a crumb that dropped prior to the WWDC announcement-that would be a light at the end of the tunnel, if nothing comes by the end of WWDC, regardless of availability, many or those who still remain will be jumping or hacking. If Apple really thinks it can go any longer than this spring to release any information really demonstrates their ego is larger than their new facility and will deteriorate into what Xerox or RIM is today.

Basically if WWDC comes and goes without any actual information on a Mac Pro it is a dead product line.

If they don't have something to release very soon, it's just over. People will probably still use iPhones and iPads for email and social media, but the content creators are moving on. Have you seen the new free version of DaVinci Resolve? It's like a mashup of Media Composer and FCPX. It can export AAF's to Pro Tools. It's nuts in a great way. Meanwhile... http://www.boxx.com/

I'm leaning to think that they will release two products.

So not to swallow their pride, the tube will live on and get spec and IO updates.

On top of that I think a more traditional tower is in the works. If I had to guess. Dual socket, with 2 pcie slots.

I don't believe user-accessible PCIe slots are coming back to the Mac. In fact, I think there's a greater chance they will disappear from the PC market as well.

Following old rumours and 'leaks' its very likely to see the updated iMac along the new iPad pro at the same launch event, the nMP and the Mac Mini could be delayed until WWDC (actually no leaks/news about nMP/Mm beyond unreliable sources) or as much have a partial Q2 launch with polaris GPUs and VEga GPUs available on Q3. an early update to the Macbook Pro also its possible for WWDC with KabyLake and 32GB Ram among the improvements (maybe OPTANE SSD too).

This is not a good time for an nMP release yet.
The right CPUs are not yet available, hope that now with Ryzen Intell will speed up SKL-W Xeons to beat Naples to the punch. On the other hand, they might wait and see how it fares.
GPUs are also a no go now. Not considering NVidia, which seems a given, Vega is still a couple of months away and we're not sure if there will be a Polaris SKU in the entry level nMP, or if it will an all Vega lineup, hopefully the latter with Vega 11 and 10.
Even the Polaris re-spin is a month or so away.
Skylake-W is not mandatory for a nMP, with BDW-EP can be built, as muuch Apple would need to add some PXEs to add PCIe lines.
Also Apple could opt for a Single Powerful 300W-class GPU from nVidia, an much better choice than two weak GPU w/o FP64 capabilities from AMD, the thermal core could be adapted for a Single-GPU with two-clicks is not rocket science (just mechanical engineering)

So Apple has no excuses, they didnt update the nMP coz Mac R&D are lazy lack oversigth, and Cook cares only on fashion and media.

Maybe you missed Mago, but Apple does not care about what you need, but they care about how you experience their platform.

Regardless if it is iOS, or Mac.

If I am forced out of macOS due to poor hardware offerings it won't be difficult for me to move outside of iOS-or at least not feel that I need to upgrade anywhere near as often as I had in the past. Noting how evolutionary iOS updates cripple old devices I'll also stay on older versions to prolong their life. I haven't bought any entertainment media on anything other than iTunes for the more than the last decade-so I'll still have a few AppleTV's around, but outside of those "services" I'm not sure I need Apple. Their the ones pushing many of us out of the ecosystem/platform experience, if I have to spend any more time in Windows then I'll just be off on my way looking at a boxx or HPZ series (really liking the HP Z2 for CAD). Right now I boot camp when needed (really only for Revit, have been using AutoCAD for Mac for the last 3 or 4 years, and Pixelmator instead ignored photoshop primarily to avoid the subscriptions and have found it to be acceptable for my uses) but if I have to go PC for hardware power macOS and I will be parting ways.

If another Mac Pro comes out in the next nine months:

It may very likely be the exact same form factor as the current one, (yes another trash can) but will get modern specs.
And once again years will go by until IT maybe gets updated or replaced or axed in the future.

Since everyone has been traumatized by the current Apple computer situation, we'll all be looking at the same distant horizon together: Will any of us want to go down this road with Apple again?

I don't know if a spec bumped nMP trashcan will instill much confidence that Apple can be counted on in the future. Perhaps the point of no return has already been passed.

I still prefer apple. They just stopped caring about workstation class machines and it showed in the trash can server. If they released a big foot style blurry image of a new workstation I would be interested.

Its funny because I was always using Mac with vmware to run necessary windows application. Then in the span of two years I went to mostly using PC with vmware workstation running apple for legacy applications.

It's almost funny how ppl are clinging to hopes and saying "THIS wwdc, if not...". for some reason I'm getting a combo deja vu, and presumably I'll read it here next year as well - if I still pop by this forum. It's time to move on ;) the nmp has become a joke. buy the itoys, look elsewhere for professional hardware. Bought a pc myself this last summer and sold my top spec iMac , couldn't be more happy - and the pc will last a looong time with upgrades whenever I feel like it. I might buy a macbook Pro to be able to access both OS X , but the current laptop release was a huge letdown too, not really Pro grade hardware in my eyes. But hopefully apple can change one day, but I will definitely not sit by and let them dictate what and when I'm gonna buy. Apple got too much money and arrogance to care...
