It is actually 1.9 times better in GFLOPs/watt compared to AMD GPU with similar level of performance.

That 2.8 times better performance is according to AMD about RX 470 compared to R9 270X.

Really I think Apple just don't care. They have the resources to build the best hardware in the business and to bring OS X drivers to "maturity". Instead "that's good enough" seems to reign at Apple HQ. We even see this attitude at work on the iPhone and iPad. iOS is no longer rock solid, and the iPhone's camera is no longer at the top of the field. It's all just good enough to keep Apple sales reasonably good.

Only now, after his death, does it become clear why Jobs had to be such an arsehole to get things done right. It's now a confederacy of bozos at Apple with no one there to tamp down the bozo eruptions.

Truth is ... almost no one cares anymore. It's not just Apple. It's a symptom of the sickness of society in my opinion. Jonny got some attention for a statement he repeated but was truly inspirational "Good is the Enemy of Great". Sadly only Samsung was listening. Now Jonny too busy receiving his Knighthood, Nobel Peace Prize, or some other crazy award to give 2 rips about GREAT. Wouldn't it be GREAT if they woke up and gave us back the innovation that allowed us to Brag how our stuff was again on the top. I still love Apple, don't ask why, kinda reminds me of the song "I was country, when country wasn't cool." LOL

Remember .... it's not impossible to create some that would impress the likes of some of you guys .... just not very probable.

Entertain us Guys ... Give us your "Dream Mac Pro" ..... Dance Monkeys Dance ... LOL

Compared to a 290x, that's correct. But it doesn't seem to be the case compared with a Fury.

Don't get me wrong, the perf/dollar is fantastic and it's a great card for the mainstream - it will sell well. But most were expecting more from perf/watt. It's at the levels of a GeForce 970 and similar prices, too.

Guys, there is separate thread about this GPU in this subforum, lets talk about it there, to not spoil this thread. I have posted something that shows AMD's stupidity there.

The truth is… Creativity is very tough. Others are doing it, look at Tesla.

It may just be waiting for the confluence of different technologies to come together.

No one ever said it wasn't hard but it's not impossible. Just a Bump in Technologies keeps people waiting for the Next Big Creative thing. Sometimes though companies WAIT TOO LONG while charging TOO much for that older Technology and ultimately watch your competition. If they are moving forward it hurts your credibility to tell us your waiting on a confluence of different technologies. The others are not having to wait. Just ask "Lil Wayne" for a glass of anything .... he's too busy collecting a check from Samsung for pouring it on their phones instead. Come On Apple ....

We talk about lots of subjects in here, the GPU discussion is relevant as it's in the context of next Mac Pro (which I don't believe we'll be seeing any Polaris parts in now). We don't have to worry about the thread being spoiled whilst those that were spoiling have been suspended. There's been great discussions in here since that happened.

While I agree they are no longer innovating the way they should, neither iOS not OS X/macOS have ever been more stable in my experience.

I suppose Polaris 10 with GDDR5/x is worthy of nMP v2. With regular GDDR5 it consumes too much power.
Yeah. I noticed that once the true power consumption of the 480 became known, the AMD fans pivoted from hyping up "performance/watt" to hyping "performance/dollar".

There are no goal posts that can't be moved.

I'm talking about Polaris 10, not RX 480. The latter just proved that AMD ('s marketing division) has moved their goal posts how they use Polaris 10. It was engineered to be used with lower clocked GDDR5 in RX 470 class cards, or with GDDR5/X in 480 class. Is suppose GDDR5/X was too expensive or availability was too low to be used at all. We have to wait next step, 480X or Firepro.

Sure there are design faults in RX 480... but that product is not going to end in nMP v2. Polaris 10 will...

OS X has always been stable for me, but it has glitches and I've learned to wait for the last update to a version before upgrading. For example, on my cMP, since I installed El Cap a few months ago, I get weird graphics where an entire window will be black, then I force a redraw and the contents appear. It's worst after sleep and sometimes affects the desktop background as well. Happens with several video cards (including on Apple OEM card) and not in Windows.

Back in the Snow Leopard era those sorts of glitches NEVER happened. Imagine if Steve Jobs had such a problem on his iMac at home or office! Some software engineer would get "Steved" within minutes.

El Cap did finally fix the glitch where a finder window would get "stuck" on a certain background layer. You could click on it and it would become active, but the finder window on top of it would remain in the foreground, lol. I've dealt with that one since Mavericks. Sadly, I prefered it to the blacked out windows glitch in El Cap. The FSM only knows what dreadful glitch I'll get with Sierra...

fwiw, that's been my experience lately as well.

probably about two years now since my last kp.
Of course, "stability" is a lot more than "how long ago did Colonel PaniK visit you?".

Whether you're running Apple OSX, Linux or Windows - system crashes are pretty rare. Application crashes cause much more pain.

oh.. i get app crashes but i don't think that would be considered regarding OS stability

most of my applications are hooked up to osx autosave and versions.. super sweet regarding lost work due to app crashes.. as in, i don't lose work in the event of a crash.. and i don't have to do anything to make it that way :)..

(features like this possibly exist in other operating systems but i'm simply talking about personal experience)
