So do we know if the SSD is user replaceable?

The 2013 was, so I am going to hazard a guess that the answer will be a yes since they do allow access to it and they are socketed, as opposed to soldered. If the Mac Pro and iMac Pro use the same modules, that could help with upgrades for iMac Pro users (with the caveat of the more difficult access issues).

New Mac Pro in every sense of the word... makes sense to me, aesthetically and price-wise. These are, after all, "workstations" (not just a HEDT) and so, you probably need to be in the "field" and have a specific "workflow" to want/need/afford this puppy! Like, a pro making pro-money.

This Mac Pro really distinguishes one from the "wannabe pros" to the real, I'm actually making money on what I do "Pros."

Save the 1%-ers who will buy one to browse Macrumors and Facebook along with the new XDR Pro Display...

Someone brought up a truck analogy in another thread...meaning that this computer is like a $90,000 Ford F450 with every luxury feature while many users want something closer that they use to make like a $30,000 Ford F150

I will buy one 10 years from now when they are on Ebay for $250.

To be fair, the Ford F-450 is a far more capable truck platform than the F-150 and therefore has a substantially higher base MSRP (close to the MSRP of the top-end F-150).

Personally, if I had the money, I would wait a couple years to buy one: DDR5, USB 4, Wireless 6, 10 NM Xeons and the Micro LED Retina Displays.

As far as I can tell you are correct, the modules on Apple's website look exactly like the iMac Pro modules pictured here. https://everymac.com/systems/apple/...c-pro-how-to-upgrade-replace-ssd-storage.html

whether or not they will allow non-Apple SSDs to work with the T2 chips remains to be seen

Close the darkest you say, can you share the onion address PM ?
That just speculation
I based on plausible leaks I've been tracking, I consider the next mMP to be as follows:

Form factor: desktop, mini tower, about 18" tall, vertical airflow, CPU/RAM/PSU in the rear half, 2 GPU PCIE in vertical at the frontal "lobe" triple width, room for a common optional radiator on top, GPU has to include internal display port interface, legacy dp/HDMI interface's accessible thru an optional adapter Linking it to the back end.

Frontal lobe in space gray, rear lobe in space Black.
Rounded corners as the Mac mini, open top for natural convection, dual ~20cm fans on top.

CPU: no real clues, assuming apple and AMD has working own thunderbolt 3 compatible host Chip, we could see an Epyc - TR3 mMP with PCIE 4 , else apple will be stick with Intel Xeon-W and PCIE3

TDP ~ 900-1000W but "quiet" configurations may need barely need 250W

RAM, 6-8 slots ECC DDR4

Storage: ridiculous expensive apple PCIE but x8 interface faster than anything on Earth (.. )

GPUs: at launch AMD Vegas only, later nVidia as bto or as diy upgrade, AMD Navi may not come to the Mac this year

Ports: 6x TB3 4x-6x USB 3-whatever, 1-3 HDMI 2.x or DP1.4

No real cues on a 3rd PCIE slot for non GPU s peripherals.

Apple may launch it's own TPU for training/inference no cues if pcie or TB3

Base mMP cost the same as current tcMP 6 core, but starting with 8 cores and a single passive cooled GPU (Rx vega 48 likely)

Apple professional display to be usb-c/tb3 6400x2880 pixel, curved

A new pro desktop keyboard is possible including the touch bar and slim mechanical switches.

No chance for 2p sata m.2 neither arm switch.

That's leaks or speculation

Yes, that is very concerning. You won't be able to put your own graphics cards in without a mod

Gotcha, I predicted custom GPU, hopefully open source STD.

Are those two ports in the middle SATA ports? What do people think?

strange place to put the two thunderbolt ports.
Yeah that design choice is a bit odd, but it’s clear that this is supposed to be a under the desk system so the top ports are probably more convenient.

This thing is literally slightly larger than the old cheesegrater, it’s definitely not an unassuming footprint to stick on a desk.

Some people seem to think that if you complain about the price, you are not a "pro" user.

I think it is fair to say that a jump in base price from $2999 (6,1) to $5999 (7,1) over the course of six years is not proportional to inflation.

I had hoped for a base $3999 model. Alas. Looks like Apple is redirecting people like me to a maxed out Mac Mini.

You're right. Odd, to me it looked a little smaller.

I was picturing on the desk itself. Under the desk makes more sense.

Beautiful machine all of the editors were clamouring around our Late 2014 iMac 5K with 16gb RAM, nodding and talking about the Mac Pro and monitors with enthusiasm and all come up with the same thought that they were beautiful, stunning and the best Macs ever but nobody would be buying one (save one person) who does a lot of colour work at home.

I for one will be building another Hackintosh that will get me ion the ballpark of this thing for at least half the price if not more, I'm hoping one of the FPGA modules can be a seperate buy for FCPX editing possibly in an enclosure with Thunderbolt. Also just to stick it to Apple personally...

Personally I don't need ECC RAM, multiple Vega VII that are already outdated as of next week, Intel 28 Cores that will be severely outdated once Threadripperr 3 comes out.

That monitor is beautiful but unbelievable it doesn't come with the stand at that insane price point.

Crazy, maybe if I start to do some more work at home, I'll be able to justify the spend but I just can't, wife would be like yeahhhh nahhhhhhh

The case and screen design kinda remind me of the original tardis interior. I am rather pissed about the lack of storage. I mean my 2012 has 8tb's of storage and neither the new Mac Pro or the Imac Pro offers no more than 4tb of storage. WTF. I'm not very tech savvy and was expecting at least double storage or more than what my computer currently has.

I guess I'm stuck with 10.8.5. I read the instructions in another thread on how to update but don't understand them. At least I have boot camp for my games.

Wonder if it will run Crysis

Anyone catch the refresh rates on that monitor ?
