hey folks, just a quick question. im interested in purchasing a santa-rose black macbook 2.2 for xmas. are one of the ram module's fixed inside the macbook? the plan is to order the basic 1GB ram (2x512mb) and then purchase the 2GB (2x1GB) ram package from crucial for £31. the plan, to remove both 512mb modules and install the crucial upgrades.

any info would be very helpful..

On thursday, Nov 8th, I will be making a trip to the Apple store to see the new MacBooks (white and black) and the 15" MBP's side by side (by side). I will walk out of the store with which ever one makes me grin the widest. :D
I ended up picking up a 15" MBP, primarily, so I could drive a 30" display.

I have to say, that now I've had this set up for a good month and a half, I wish I had gone with the MacBook.

When the laptop is in my office, hooked up to my 30" display, it is great...but I absolutely hate carrying it around. The MBP IS more flimsy than the MacBook (especially the top case). And, I can't get past the fact that I absolutely prefer the MacBook styling to the MBP's.

It's personal preference. I should've gone with my gut instead of hoping I'd learn to love the MBP. :)

Love my MB!!! Got to say it feels a lot stronger compared to the MBP.
I don't know what it is about the MB...but I just prefer it over the MBP...however, I am now heavily invested in my new MBP and 30" HP LCD. So I don't think it is feasible for me to make a change right now. :)

As the thread just got bumped...

had the SR macbook for slightly over a month now coming from a bigger machine and wanting something more portable. Been generally satisfied with it. One problem was that the keyboard would flake out, but with the recent patch that is supposedly fixed. The GPU is utter **** though, worse than I expected to be honest. Just spare yourself trying to play any games newer than Quake3. Display isn't great with limited viewing angle but does get the job done. The hardware you get is clearly overpriced when looking at the competition but its not as if you have a choice as far as running macos is concerned.

PS: topshell already has slight marks/depressions where the two ridges from the display touch down when the macbook is closed. Not sure how that'll develop in the future, but I guess it can be expected that chipping can occur at some point.
Definitely getting apple care as I presume they will have to replace the topshell within the three years.

How is that happening? That sucks, guy. How are you storing it when it is closed? Is it being squeezed between two textbooks? Are you putting a heavy rock on it? Are you slamming it closed when you close it?
I've had my MacBook since November 7th, and there aren't even any marks on the topshell where the two ridges come down. You should take it in to Apple before it gets worse. Unless you want to see where it's going....
