Nobody has been taking potshots at the American people, just the fact payments are so old fashioned. People like you have gotten personal and been called out repeatedly for it. You’ve even claimed people are ‘jealous’ and now another has mentioned some old war that nobody gives a toss about. All because some of us were surprised contactless payments aren’t as popular as in the rest of the developed World. What an utterly absurd reaction.
I am a US citizen living in the UK and I second this. US financial services are in the dark ages because there is not enough competition and companies make profits with what they do now. I was initially sceptical of NFC contactless payments to begin with, but over time I have found it to be secure and convenient in the UK (and Apple Pay online is good as well). Mind you, I still carry cash. You never know what might disrupt the internet. For instance, the Shetland Islands had their undersea internet cable cut, so no transactions could be made by plastic at all. I am sure Russia had nothing to do with it. Just a fishing accident. ;)

Well I never thought so, but that's how some of you are acting in this thread with the questions though.
How did you possibly deduce this?

I mean, you tell me who has the inferior experience? A fragmented card system in the US or one that works across the whole of Europe without any issues, across all platforms?

Bang on.

The usual “socialist” rhetoric follows which is absolutely clap-trap.

What many don’t realise is the fact this is US government brainwashing and propaganda, but I digress somewhat.

The fact is there is more choice in the rest of the world as a result of contactless use and the compatibility with Apple Pay and similar services.

Heck, I went to Malaysia some time ago, forgot my wallet so I just used Apple Pay. It didn’t stop me or cause me issues.

I never even take my wallet or phone with me at times. I just use my watch and never have to worry.

And that’s just one benefit.

It’s got nothing to do with government control or socialism. It’s called progress.

No. They. Won't. WalmartPay works fine through their app. It truly is laughable that so many think the literal largest retailer in the country is going to fail simply because they don't accept NFC payments. 🤣
They won't fail, but it will cost business of course. But for now the loss is lower than the gain. Question is of course, if and when that will shift. On an international scale, NFC will be the primary (only?) payment option in a decade or so.

@ProfessionalFan I invite you to spend time in Europe to see first-hand how so-called "socialism" is destructive, and how terrible regulation and compliance is within society.

(You'll even find in many countries, you can walk around with a concealed firearm. Austria is a fine example. Heck, I used to own an SSG 08, and I would buy rounds from Slovakia, but it's well regulated, and I never felt unsafe or threatened.)

Valuing one's time is smart. You can always get more money. You're not gonna get more time.

So yes, I might pay (totally making this up) 10% more if I go to the Shop & Save that is two minutes away, and be totally done and home in 30 mins, rather than spending 90-120 mins to go to the Walmart and back. Absolutely. It isn't even a close call.

If you don't value your own time, that's totally your call.
I have never waited more than 5 min at the most for the self checkout at any Walmart and 99% of the time I make my weekly visit on Sunday afternoon.

Who the heck mentioned anything about socialism. You just got on a soapbox about a subject I never brought up and I don't think anyone else brought up. Weird.

As for that and the rest of the post, keep the politics in the politics forum, please. We'll all appreciate it.

And cause I have to... Sir, this is a Walmart thread.

But you failed to provide us with any analysis at all. Clearly, Target and CVS were obstinate, and they realized that they could not afford the financial pain. "Their best interests" suddenly flipped; they really didn't have any real conviction to reject Apple Pay.

Can you provide us with any reasoning behind your opinions? Is "whatever they believe it to be" the best you can give us?
Well, regarding CVS, they probably were losing customers because prices for medications tend to be cheaper at Walmart, not because of Apple Pay 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s cute how you and other think Apple Pay is some huge big deal and that stores are closing because they don’t use it 😂😂

Are you trying to imply only poor people shop at Walmart?
Mostly, yes. We have a Walmart directly across the road from a Meijer store and the difference between the shoppers at each place would blow your mind. Same for Target. Find a Target next to a Walmart and look at the difference in the people at each location.

Walmart is for 350 lb women that wears sweatpants in public that say "Juicy" across the ass. Prove me wrong...

The lack of Apple Pay/contactless is actually the sole reason I stopped shopping there in like... 2016. I've done buisness at walmart maybe twice since 2016. I almost never have traditional debit cards on me, I dont carry cash and there's people that want my money enough to support the ways I want to pay. Our local walmart is delapidated and filthy these days -- I bet it has a lot to do with how little walmart is interested in listening to their customers. Walmart had this mindst that they're usinkable and they're the driving force in retail. They operate like a company stuck in 1998 both operationally and in buisness logistics.

Walmart is not the retail chain they were 20 years ago. the sooner they figure they out, the less chance they have of being completely run over by regional supermarkets taking all the buisness not being done through Amazon.
Why do you guys keep insisting on telling everyone you won’t shop there? Hint: nobody cares what you do 🤷🏻‍♂️

Cause these are the same people that think they are "above" shopping at a store like Walmart since they own an iPhone. They think they are special so them announcing where they shop is something they think people care about.

The Venn diagram of "people who want to shop at Walmart" and "people who really care about paying with Apple Pay" is two non-intersecting circles. This thread is all about group 2 showing their moral superiority over group 1. We get it guys.

In the US, stores get to decide their own policies and what they want to accept or not accept. I assume based on your comment that in Europe, the government controls everything?

Aaaahhhh....the hypocrisy! 😅

For sure. Just went to Meijer (instead of usual Walmart) this morning, left my iPhone at home, and spent $45 on breakfast & beer (Bears game tonight) because I wanted to try Apple Pay on my watch. So seamless.

Congratulations!! Gold star for hipness.

In the meantime, the percentage of retail transactions conducted by Apple Pay using a watch by someone having no phone and no credit cards on them is virtually indistinguishable from zero...and not a market that most retailers are concerned about.

On a side note, I find sticking my card in the card reader at Lowe's to be pretty seamless too. It's like magic! I just stick it in, and in a second or two, my transaction is approved!! Truly some amazing technology there.

OMG this discussion is as out of control as Eagles fans in Philadelphia winning the Super Bowl a few years ago - blowing up the town!

At least Phillies fans had pretty good manners last night, when winning the Championship.

Yet, here you are taking the time to reply to these opinions that you supposedly don't care about. Hmmm..

Actually I am a minimalist. If you saw how I dressed, the last word that would come to mind would be hip. Also, the point of my post was Walmart took a hit for not offering Apple Pay. Last, Apple Pay stats. mean nothing to me. As an individual consumer, it's what I do best for my family and I = the number that only matters.

What hit did they take exactly? 🙄
