Again, not the same technology, or the same thing. If all contactless payment was saving your card, then every website has contactless payment. I can save my card on almost any website.

It is not as secure or convenient as contactless payment.
You can also setup a pin when you scan the qr code, but you also mentioned it was behind a paywall when Walmart pay is completely free, with that said though Apple stores and disney stores are doing the same thing getting rid of registers all together and letting you scan the items you want and check out on your own, I walked in, got a case from the shelf, scanned the qr code next to the iphone cases and walked out. It's more convenient for me I guess, to each their own.

It's funny, I stopped shopping at Walmart many years ago, and the straw that broke the camel's back was lack of Apple Pay.

I pretty much use Apple Pay everywhere now, and I avoid places that don't take it. It's so much more convenient than cards and cash, especially in the wintertime when you have gloves on. My lone holdout is Lowes and Hope Depot, but I started going to a local hardware store that takes Apple Pay for most things.

I know it costs the companies extra fees, but for people like me, it makes a difference.

It seems like almost all small businesses take it now since they all use POS systems like Square and such that have long supported it.

As if billions of people in the rest of the world are using iMessage? No, nearly nobody uses it outside of the US. Apple has allowed other messaging systems ever since the App Store was launched, and they also let these apps integrate with the iOS notifications and call screens.

And...what does any of that have to do with Apple having no incentive to implement RCS in Messages?

If anything, you're marking an argument against it...since "nobody" outside the U.S. uses messages anyway, and iPhone users in the U.S. don't care about RCS, why bother implementing it?

I just don’t get the appeal of Walmart. I feel like ALDI, Costco, and Meijer are each superior. Similar prices, higher quality items, much more pleasant shopping experiences.

Maybe Walmart thrives where those competitors don’t exist?
Look at the locations where there are Walmart stores... hint... not high income neighborhoods or urban areas. Same with Sam's Club locations.
It's no different than the various Dollar Stores and where they set up their stores.

Right now, no. And seeing the card readers and POS systems they have, they never will. I worked at a company that provisioned those devices, and none of them support contactless payment.

That, and lack of Apple Pay, while cosmetic reasons, are among the many reasons to not ever shop at Walmart, with the exception on if you are in a small town, and the only store for the entire town's needs is Walmart.

Not providing contactsless in 2022 (other than your app) is ridiculous.
I hate using cash, but I would if I shopped at Walmart.

If they made scan and go register free I would consider it. I would love just to pick the item, pay for it on my phone right there, then walk out

I’m too lazy to boycott anything. I go to places that I prefer and have a better experience at. If I need something that’s only available at Walmart I’ll go there. If I need something and I have a choice between Walmart and Target, then I’m going to pick Target because I have a better experience there. Why wouldn’t anyone go to a place where they have a better experience.

I think when it comes down to it the only reason to shop at Walmart, if you have an alternative is you’re on an extremely tight budget so you do what you have to do to survive.

I'm not sure what "experience" you and others are after, but I just want to buy the items I need and leave--that's it, lol! I'm not on a survival budget. I go to Walmart because it's convenient, the prices are great, and they normally have what I need.

Yes they do. Customers can contactless-ly scan a QR code to pay with Walmart’s own payment method.
That's not what Walmart Pay is. Many credit and debit cards can now simply be “tapped” near an NFC-enabled PoS terminal, just like using Apple Pay or other NFC-based solutions. Because Walmart doesn't allow NFC payments, that isn’t supported either.

That is wild, every shop in the uk takes contactless which works with Apple Pay

Their customer demographics are generally blue collar and lower income people, esp. in more rural areas.

Not true where I live. There's both a Walmart and Sam's club smack in the middle of the busiest areas of our city, and all sorts of people shop there. Plenty of very nice vehicles parked in the parking lots.

Does Super Target have all the groceries that Walmart has ?
Generally pretty close. Some things might not be available in certain SKUs (e.g., maybe Walmart has Coke Zero cans in 12- and 24-packs but Target only has 12-packs) or, of course, in a few cases Target doesn’t have it at all. I generally buy what I can at Aldi, then fall back to Target, and anything I can’t buy at those two stores I get from Walmart, with a few exceptions. Given that, I go to Walmart once a month on average…if that.

Compared to Walmart, Target’s pickup experience is also way better, in my opinion.

Your right Target curb side pickup is 5 to 10 minutes max mostly less. Walmart curb side pickup 10 minutes to 1 hour lol.

I guess from a Canadian point of view, I don’t understand how a company could control the access to NFC terminal. From my experience, any terminal that supports NFC will work with Apple Pay. It’s been a while since I’ve been in a Walmart, but I am pretty sure it works there as well in Canada

Edit: people explained to me that all the NFC capabilities are disabled, not solely Apple Pay. Still find that very weird and I don’t see the gain companies have by doing so
In Germany some NFC terminals don’t accept credit cards, only German EC-Karte. I thought same like you but looks like here they can choose which card type is valid.

No skin off my nose; I still carry some physical cards for any location that doesn't take Apple Pay.

And Walmart is still a good place to find stuff on the cheap, regardless of those who live on their high horses.
Hey, we need to keep our high horses fed at all times to maintain our “elevated” self image. There’s no Walmart here in NYC, but if I pass through Jersey or Upstate, I might be tempted to “find stuff on the cheap” as long as my “friends” don’t know about it.

Walmart wanted to force everyone to use their own system. The world preferred NFC over the WM method. The Evil Mart of W is too prideful to admit they have lost.
Have you actually used WalmartPay though? Because your comment is written sounding like someone who hasn't. While I much prefer ApplePay, WalmartPay works just fine the few times I've used it.

They haven't 'lost' anything in this supposed battle. It is the same argument so many on here use with Apple; their store, their rules. And as the leading retailer in the US, they're doing just fine.

EC cards are a totally different payment system. Every place that accepts credit cards accepts contactless, because it's the same thing, they just needed to upgrade the terminals, which every major retailer in Germany has done by now.

And Krogers hates Apple Pay too. I can't remember how many people I have stunned when I use Apple Pay at a Meijers or other stores that support it. Some have freaked out, (almost) seriously.
Kroger is funny about NFC/ApplePay. We have two store brands in our area that are both owned by Kroger. One does not do any NFC payments and the other does. It’s not clear why they have different policies and setups. I try to go to the one that does support NFC though it is a couple miles further away.

Every time I shop at Walmart, I have to dig out my debit card like some sort of Neanderthal. Them and Lowe's are the only retailers I still have to do this with. I even get fuel with my Apple watch and Apple Pay. Hopefully someday they bend, but I'm not holding my breath.
