I don't think we'll see that soon, due to copyright issues on the text. If you can find (or create) a text file and break it down into chapters, you can install it yourself easily enough via SSH.

But...we can always hope. I'd love to see NASB , myself.

Cheers!
:)

I'll be happy to pay for a nlt or niv version for the iphone... Any suggestions where i can buy it for the iphone?

Books app will read text or html files of any type. If you break the text into chapter files (number them to keep them in biblical order or they'll end up alpha sort), that should work great.

I'd like to know where to get this ebook too...if you know the source, please post it!

Thanks for the contribution.

anyone know what type of file goes into the reader as and is broken up into chapters.

I found a ebook that says for Microsoft reader but I was wondering if that would work on the book reader.

http://www.booksonboard.com/index.php?BODY=viewbook&BOOK=59989

That is the site, by the way this website has lots of diffeent formats surely on has to work . But this version is only avaible as Microsoft reader. A

Any thoughts?

I'm also looking for something similar to e-Sword for the iPhone.

In particular, the two features of s-Sword that I would like to have are:

1) Strong's concordance

2) The comparison capability, so that I can compare two translations or, more importantly, compare an English translation with the Greek original.

Are either of these available for the iPhone?

Any help would be appreciated.

A full-fledged Bible software program, accessed through Safari, is available here: http://ipocketbible.com/

It is around $4 per month and has search functions and multiple translations. Works OK with Edge and very well with wifi.

I used the NIV and NASB for awhile with the Books app but recently upgraded to 1.1.2 and lost my third-party apps. I'm okay with that and will wait until February for the real thing.

In the meantime I created an email account for the NIV and the NASB and emailed them to myself. (One book of the Bible in each folder=66 folders in each account) Now I have both translations with me anywhere (connected or not) and can get to a book and chapter in seconds. Works very well until a more complete app comes along. (No searching however)

iQuran but no iBible?

Okay guys...the SDK is out now. Muslims everywhere can enjoy the Quran on their iPhone. Seems that they must be more passionate about their faith than Christians, since WE STILL DON'T HAVE A NATIVE BIBLE APP!

This just cannot be that difficult.

Are there no Christian programmer types out there who are willing to bring the Word of God to this incredible new platform?

Please don't reply with the links to web apps or Books.app. We already know about those. We need a good, searchable, update-able Bible app that supports multiple versions. This is a huge opportunity. If someone doesn't take this on soon, I'll likely hire a programmer and do it myself. Anybody want to help fund such a project?

There is a native one here:

http://groups.google.com/group/jiggyapp-devel/web/ibible

Be advised, though, that I had difficulty getting it to work on my phone running 1.1.1. I had to mess with permissions to finally get it to work. It's KJV only and you have to have Jiggy installed. It works pretty well but I noticed a couple bugs. I'm not sure if the developer is doing much with it at this point.

There is already a native Bible app. However you need a jailbroken iPhone. Its called King James Version. The only way to use it though is to install Books.app which I'd an eBook reader. Dont worry KJV Bible was waaaay before iQuran.

PM me if you need any info

Edit - Its a Free eBook. I should know since I use it many times. Its greatly developed even though its free. Higly suggest it

Thanks for the info! I got this running on 1.1.4 by installing the Jiggy runtime through Installer.

Now...if we could just add some other translations...

Anybody want to help us with this?
:)

I wrote the first iPod Bible app BiblePod several years ago and am thinking about doing a native iPhone app.

I could probably whip it up within about a day but don't have a lot of time.

No need for hassles. There is already a Bible written fir the Books.app. Just look for eBooks category in the Installer, then install Books.app from Productivity.

That simple...
