nice little icon, not very up on doing the bookmarks on homepage but how do I assign that icon to the bookmark on homepage?

I just hit the + button when on their homepage and it gave me a nice little icon…

Edit: never mind, I misread. :) I think to have a custom icon you need to be jailbroken.

Edit: I've just added it to my iPhone's screen via Clipalizer using the following icon:

When you add it to the home screen, the edges are rounded and it fits in perfectly with your other apps.
But the site already has an iPhone icon. Just press the + button and then 'add to home screen'

That is a brilliant find! I normally use the eyetv app but this one is working brilliantly. A lot better than running iplayer through an old G4 here at work. Bang goes any ideas of getting any work done today. Amazingly smooth on 3G as well, wow.

Save the icon from WeegieMac's post and then load it in ('Send this file") at http://clipalizer.com/ along with the name and url of the web site you want, and follow the instructions.

Indeed. ;)

Fantastic. This is great.

Why do I have the feeling that this will be pulled any minute now :(

wow! thanks for posting this. just watched 2 minutes of scrubs on e4. it works really well over wifi. i'd test 3G, but it's a struggle to find a spot with 3G signal nearby.

only a matter of time until this gets pulled. No way this is legal. Lets just keep quite about this and not tell anyone : )

I think its been around for 12 months, just not available on the iphone.
So we might be ok
Still think we should keep it quiet though :)

Either way, I'm astounded of the quality of the video, especially over 3G, which seems to be just as quick and the same quality as wi-Fi.
How is that achieved?

What's the reason behind this? Is it not legal? I thought seeing as they're free channels it would be ok.

The issue is that they are not actually free channels as you have to purchase a TV Licence in order to view them. Watching it over an internet connection means that it won't be picked up by scanners that check for TV's on addresses with no licence.

However it is a brilliant site and the quality is amazing so lets hope that it doesn't get found out by the relevant authorities.

Well thats rubbish for a start - I've got 3 different tellys in my house and I've watched all those channels for years. I've never had to get a license.

Ha, the very idea - a license to watch the crap thats screened 99% of the time!

On the main site before you can watch any channels you must register. I believe during registration you are told in the T&Cs you need to have a valid TV License for the UK in order to legally use the site - same applies on the iPhone but there is no T&Cs to sign.

It's the same if you had a computer and a TV tuner card, even if you had no TV in the house you would still need a license for the tuner. (Don't quote me on this, it's how I've interpreted the law on this subject).

You do not need to "have" a license to actually watch TV in the UK, just buy a TV and tune in (I do NOT suggest this, it's an example). To be all above board and legal, if you have a TV, or a way of watching the TV channels, you need a license.

Other legal stuff may apply...

I don't see wht the fuss is about regarding to the legalities. portable digital tv's are readily available, as are USB digital terrestrial dongles, that you can hook up to a laptop, for example.
All give you free digital tv, with no mention of a required licence.

Taken directly from the TV Licensing website:

"Do I need a TV Licence if I only watch programmes online?

It makes no difference how you watch TV - whether it's on your laptop, PC or mobile phone or through a digital box, DVD recorder or TV set - if you use any device to watch or record television programmes at the same time (or virtually the same time) as they're being shown on TV, the law requires you to be covered by a TV Licence. This type of TV is often described as "live" TV or simulcasting."

It's nothing to do with that - heck, you can already watch the BBC channels live on a Nokia N96 for example. You certainly need a TV licence to watch a service like this, but most people already have one which covers a portable set/mobile. TV licencing primarily enforce the law simply by going to the door of anyone who doesn't have a licence. Detector vans do exist, but not often and don't work that well.

But if you go on to any of the major channels online streaming sites there are always programmes that they're not allowed to show because they don't have the rights to - live football for example. And the channels, being responsible companies, don't break the law and don't show those programmes on their own streams. TV Catchup does, and is pirating them every bit as much selling copied DVDs. TV Catchup also puts their own adverts in, which is also illegal.

Incredible site.

I've done some tests:

1) The iPhone stream doesn't work on the Safari browser on a Mac.
2) The iPhone stream doesn't work on other mobile phones (tried it on my Blackberry Bold).
3) Wifi and 3G quality are the same.
4) The stream even works on Edge but you do get frequent pauses.
5) The stream does not work on 2G 'o' symbol.
6) The stream only about 30 seconds to a minute delay behind real actual television.

Forget something like Mobile TV that various UK mobile networks offer for a subscription fee when you've got high quality LIVE TV like this on an iPhone for FREE!! :D
