No, you just go to the iphone specific address and voila!

Looks like they've added some nice little logos to click on now rather than the pull down menu.

Cool.

Just a quick question. I've tried this and it's great, as others have said the quality is amazing over 3G.

That said, if I select 4-Music, I get the picture but no sound. Other channels are OK. Does anyone else find the same thing?

Hey, am i being really stupid? but when i go to the iphone specific part of the page on my iphone ( fully updated with the latest software), i get the channel icons which i click, i then login but it says " you need flash player", what am i doing wrong???

Please please please add Sky Sports News to this site if it is available ???

Agreed. Sky Sports News and the BBC's 'red button' channels(Feeeview 301 & 302).

Fresh from TVCatchup, via Twitter:

IMPORTANT: TV LICENSING & STUDENTS

Mobile access is certainly causing a stir amongst iPhone users, and one of the most frequently asked questions we hear concerns TV licensing.

Generally, everyone equipped to watch TV as it is being broadcast (including users of this website, whatever they use) are required to be in possession of a valid TV licence. Details of your obligations can be found by going to: http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk

This does not necessarily apply to students using laptops or mobile devices to view content. The TV Licensing Agency advice is that you do NOT need to hold a TV licence in your own name if all of the following apply:

You only use TV receiving equipment that is powered by its internal batteries; and
You have not installed it (e.g. connected it to an aerial or plugged it into the mains) to receive TV; and
Your permanent address (non term-time) is your parents' home; and
Your parents have a valid TV Licence for their home.

Confirmation of this can be found by clicking HERE

It is the user’s responsibility to read the information provided by the TV Licensing Agency carefully and to comply with the law. If in doubt, please call them direct on 0844 800 6721

Accordingly, we are pleased to advise an alteration to our Terms of Service: those student Members meeting the criteria published by the TV Licensing Agency are no longer required to be in possession of a television licence to use this website.

Whilst this website does not retain records that could identify any individual users or their access to content, all other users are reminded that they are otherwise required to be covered by a valid TV licence or risk legal action.

Ignore that TV Licence ********. The amount of "authority" they boast is laughable.

http://www.tvlicensing.biz/

You are under no obligation to open their letters, let them in your house, or even acknowledge their existence. Their "TV scanning vans" are just empty sans a sleeping bag and some other crap for the guy driving it. They mostly "detect" you have a TV by looking through the window or seeing a glow coming from the curtains. They outright refuse to tell anyone, even the court, how their TV detecting technology works. I know a lot of people who have ignored them for years and nothing has happened. They cannot enter your house without a warrant and cannot get a warrant without evidence. Since they have no way of actually proving you have a television besides taking some pictures of it through the window, there is no evidence to present.

Here's one of their high-tech "Mobile Detection Units"

Everyone is guilty until proven innocent though because of their database of who is paying the fee and who isn't. They just assume that everyone in the country *must* have a television because no one can function without one. Hence you get sent letters.

With students it's a different case because the campus officers often simply let them into the dorms and then they can see you have a TV.

It's nothing but another tax on the people for a network that, while OK for news, has nothing else worthwhile.

Wow what a huge rant. Oh well. I don't even live there anymore. It just annoys the hell out of me.

On topic: Awesome website, I'm sure!

They are evil. In the UK the BBC are running a campaign telling students they need a TV licence if they watch live or streaming live TV on their laptops. What they don't say is that you DON'T need a licence to watch programmes via iPlayer or to watch live/streaming TV so long as your laptop isn't plugged into the mains. This second point means that this iphone app is fine (unless your iphone is charging at the same time).

Basically, about 7 years ago, when the BBC effectively took over digital TV in the UK via Freeview, they deliberately specified that no card slot was needed in the boxes. They didn't want the sensible thing to happen - scrambling of the BBC channels and abolition of the licence fee as a lot of people wouldn't care about loosing the BBC. And before people chime in with claims the BBC doesn't have adverts - it doesn't have commercial adverts, but there are so many BBC trailers and adverts for other BBC services, they may as well have ads.

Fantastic find, OP (m477h3w)! Many thanks. I see on the TCCatchup desktop website, there are support/suggestion forums too.

I hope BBC 4 comes to the iPhone/iPod Touch version soon.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Another excuse not to do any work !!!!!!
Great find!!!

Does anyone know if this works with 'TV out' so you can watch it on a larger screen?

I don't have the cable but if it works this could be the clincher to get it.

There's an app in the uk store where channel 5 are charging £2.99 I think for viewing the Europa cup live on your iPhone. Glad I didn't buy it. Lol !!!!

I don't think so. The TV out is related to the iPod part of the phone not Safari. Although it is the same Quicktime player playing back the video.

I've not tried it though.

Wow, this would be pretty neat if I could get this to work in the US. I'm in NYC right now but while I don't get "You don't have permission to view this movie", I am getting "This movie could not be played" when I click on a channel. It seems that I should have access to it but that my 3.0.1 iPhone 3GS doesn't seem to want to play it?

I just signed up for the desktop app, really good quality even on full screen on my 24" imac.
as an example on a Saturday night i watch match of the day on my mac and full screen its pretty unwatchable but with this its far far better!!!
awesome:D:D

Yes, the TV licensing people are evil. Threatening letters unless you buy a TV license, saying they can come to your house unannounced.

They won't even refund you 2 months of unused TV license (if you moved and the new place has one already for instance), has to be in blocks of 3 months. It's shocking, a utility company wouldn't get away with this.

Too bad I can't live without TV.
