We may not see an iPad Mini 5 until Apple release their first foldable iPhone or foldable iPad, whichever way you want to look at it. Of course it wouldn't be a Mini 5 but if this becomes a reality then we'll get to enjoy an iPhone and iPad Mini (or something close to a Mini) in the one device.
If Apple release an all screen iPad Mini 5 (or iPad Mini Pro) at the October 30 event then I will be blown away and very happy. But I won't be holding my breath.

Nope, we need an Ipad mini pro.
yes yes yes!! iPad Mini Pro, with Apple Pencil 2 support, Face ID etc.....

Hoping that maybe this is the reason why we're not seeing an updated iPad mini. If Apple makes a foldable iPhone (Note) it would make sense not to have something that directly competes against it. I would buy this instantly. Even if the screen folded out isn't as big as the iPad mini. Would be great to carry one device that is a phone but can expand to a tablet for reading etc.

It will be interesting to see what Samsung comes out with later this year. Rumors are that it will be a foldable device.

Anyone else assuming that the Mini4 will soon be discontinued, but that an equivalent will resurface next year, in the form of the non-Pro/9.7” iPad, which has been given the reduced bezel design treatment? It would be a bit bigger than the current Mini, but pretty close to the footprint of the existing Mini...it would not have the ‘Mini’ name, but would simply be the new ‘iPad’ for 2019

The above is how I expect the future to unfold. I have been using a Mini daily since 2013 and far prefer it to the regular or Pro iPads. I will be tempted to buy the new 10.5” iPad Pro when it launches in a few weeks, but cannot help but feel that it might be a waste of money, as once a ‘reduced bezel’ regular iPad appears on the scene, I would prefer that as my go to iPad (even if it is less feature rich than the Pro)

Haha believe it or not there are people in these forums who want to carry around an iPad mini as their phone! If it wasn’t for them I would have gotten the sarcasm.

Yeah, but even with the ridiculous details i went into? :p

And me.

It would be nice to only have to deal with one device. And no, I wouldn't hold it up to my ear, that's what bluetooth headphones are for.

Yeah, it's nice and all when you can answer phone calls on any device, including iPad, via WiFi calling (and having text message forwarding on, then it does it all). I have been known to be passenger in my wife's car, with my iPhone stuck on the dash vent clip with navigation running, and then when the phone rings I'm not on her car bluetooth - so I'd answer with my iPad via wifi calling. So, I get it.

I even have the Xfinity app to make/take calls on my home phone number loaded on my iPad, in addition to making outgoing calls with my cellular iPad via wifi calling by clicking on a number in my contacts. It's just a rare occasion for me.

I could not carry around an iPad all by itself as my one device, it's just way too big to be my primary phone. The Xs Max is already too big to operate one handed, although the Xs max and my iPhone X both fit in my front pants pocket together, so I can choose the smaller X when my other hand is occupied (walking the dog, carrying a bag, etc).

Right now my Air 2 stays at home for surfing on the couch. My Xs Max is operating in place of my old iPad Mini 4 (that I gave my son) when I'm out and about, but the Max is too small to be an iPad and almost too big to be a phone.

You actually carry 2 high end iPhones on you just because one of them is easier to use one-handed?

No, I've used 2 iPhones for years. As far back as 9 years ago I was using a small flip phone as my primary phone and an iPhone 3GS for web and data and email, etc.

I was able to one-hand my 6+, 6s+ and 7+ due to the design, and I also used an iPad Mini of some sort as my secondary device. But always had a SIM in my previous phone for just in case, although with the Mini 4 I didn't carry a second phone. While I was in a phone call on my primary device on my ear, I could use the second device for reading web/mail, etc, whether it be a second phone or an iPad.

Most earbuds that allow me to hear what's going on around me tend to fall out, so if I'm looking at my screen while on a call I have to use the speaker. Speaker calls are not okay in public. I don't like walking around in public with noise-blocking earbuds as it's not safe, so I use a secondary device looking stuff up in public while on a call.

When I got my X as my primary, I moved the 7+ to my spare phone number and I used it like an iPad while giving my son my iPad Mini 4 for college. I had no problem using the 7+ or the X one handed.

But the Xs Max is a challenge to use one handed - enough that I'm considering moving my primary SIM back to my X, and using the Xs Max as my "iPad Nano", and that way if I need to "travel light" then I can just leave the Xs Max behind.

PS: With my flawed logic - I could continue using the Xs Max as my primary device, so if I'm holding it to my ear during a call then I can still one-hand operate the X, such as when I need to look up something or read something while I'm on the call. If I have to travel light then at least the Xs Max by itself would be more functional with the bigger screen and better camera.

That is one way to see things. But another way to see them is that some people would not like to use an iPad even Mini as a phone, as even the largest iPhones seem large for that, yet that they still want something more portable than a 9.7" iPad...

The iPad Mini fits in jacket pockets but not in any pants pocket that I have had.

If you are looking for a pant solution, the Mini fits in most (not all) 5.11 pants. Look for the slash-shaped rear pocket.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re saying, but it doesn’t seem to conflict with anything I said. Are you sure you read my comment correctly and in context of the comment I was responding to?

I don't see how it would be a disadvantage to release a new iPad Mini 5! Apple does not have to do an "X" design but just update the Soc to A12; give ti 4GB RAM and call it a day! Because it an A12; they can charge me double and I will still get it! $800? Okay with me!

The best deal on the Mini 4 was $125 off (which brought it down to $275 for 32GB model... that's when I bought it to supplement my 12.9 Pro). I would be surprised if it goes on sale for more than $100 off.

A couple of months ago, Best Buy had the 128GB for $275. But it seems the wifi always gets the deep discounts, with no similar discount for the LTE version.

I like the mini. Not for actual work, but for the kids to play with. Their mini’s are getting really slow. I’d like to see Apple update the mini but consider this...

Even this thread is only 9 pages long and I thinking it stated way back in August? Close/over 3 months and only 9 pages. Doesn’t look like our hopes for a mini 5 is very popular. But we can hope.

The iPad mini is IMO a very good travel companion. I don't like taking my laptop with me everywhere I travel and in most cases, an iPad Mini would do just fine. I have a 6.1" screen smartphone but find browsing and doing light office work easier on the iPad Mini.

The problem with the iPad Mini is also that Apple is reluctant to release a new iPad Mini 5 as sales aren't that great. Meanwhile, customers are reluctant to buy the iPad Mini 4 because of the dated hardware inside, thereby keeping sales figures very low for the device.

I'm no fan of the larger iPads. I had the original iPad back when I'd use a 15" laptop. Going from a heavier 15" laptop to a lighter 10" iPad was an improvement when travelling. Now that I switched to 13" MBAs, having a 10" iPad for travelling provides only incremental benefits.

In short: I'd love to see an iPad Mini 5 and, provided the hardware is decent enough, would definitely buy one. I seriously doubt that Apple will release another iPad Mini. I have been waiting for 2 years now and I get the feeling that it won't happen. There's a good chance that Apple will keep the Mini around until they release an iOs version that will no longer support the iPad Mini 4, at which point it will quietly disappear (just like the iPod Nano, iPod Touch, iPod Classic, etc.)

Touché. Seems that the iPod Touch is in the same boat as the iPad Mini and hasn't received a hardware update in a while though.

Yeah they both haven't been updated for a little over 3 years. And the ipod touch wasnt updated for 3 years before that, which until now was the longest Apple went without updating an ios device. So Apple is now treading unprecedented territory. It will be interesting to see what they do from here regarding both devices.

I'm afraid that those greedy bastards will remove a screen lamination and anti-reflective coating.
I think you're right.

If it supports the Apple Pencil and is priced closed to the 2018 iPad then it'll be fine with me. I dislike the anti-reflective coating because it really shows fingerprint smudges like nobody's business. Whether my iPads have an AR coating or not, I have gotten into the habit of applying a matte screen protector.

So, i guess we will not have ProMotion technology,Wide colour display (P3) and True tone, thats max since the ipad mini 4 has all the rest...so expect to have Fully laminated display and Antireflective coating

Any place but here or there....
If this rumored Mini has pencil support and 3gb of RAM I’d buy it instead of the smaller iPP. I do not need Promotion in an iPad.

If it has specs comparable to the iPM4 and is cheaper, I may still consider it if the screen is laminated and depending on price.

Kuo says that Apple will launch a new version of the iPad mini, which has not seen an update in several years. Kuo says the device will feature an upgraded processor and a lower-cost panel.

Kuo does not know, however, if Apple will announce it during the media event or launch it sometime later in the year/early next year, but if an updated model is in the works, it makes sense for it to launch alongside the iPad Pro .

UHH Hell YA! Please let it be true.... If not KUO is out.

I hoping it releases this fall ... but I'm thinking its going to be Spring 2019 launch.
