I grew up on the East Coast of the States but never took an image of the sun rising over the Atlantic Ocean until this past summer. We were visiting my aunt and cousins in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, and stayed in a hotel that was right on the beach. I had only one morning that I would be able to give it a go. I checked the time for sunrise, set my alarm, and actually got up when the alarm went off. Stupid me….. I know that sunrise and first light are not the same, but I had turned off my brain long before I figured out the timing. I opened my eyes to see that first light was just about to start. I had planned to go down to the beach. Instead, I rushed out onto the balcony with the pigeons and pigeon poop. I could not see anything very well because I did not have time to put in my contact lenses (and, no, I do not have glasses). Over the next 20-30 minutes I shot almost 200 frames. I had never before watched a sunrise that closely and seen how much the light changes from one minute to the next. It was spectacular. I don’t know if those were the best images I shot this year, but they were the most fun.

I so wanted to take a picture of these famous horses this time around but didn’t get a chance.
Did you get to experience Hogmanay in Edinburgh? Wasn’t sure if you were staying for that or not.

I’ve been struggling with time this time around simply because I’ve been on holiday since the 21st until literally yesterday. But before this challenge ends, I’ll just put forward one of my most favourite shots of 2018.
This was a particularly bad weather for a mountain climbing exercise. Oops!
I know the picture quality is not particularly good, blame it on the GoPro!

Posted this in the December Daily. Very simple beach shot in Honolulu, Hawaii taken with an iPhone XS Max.
I haven't shot much in the last two years but the bug is starting to bite again. This has been posted before but it is my favorite photo from 2018.
