Just got a nice Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Oh my what a difference!

I didn't even know what I was missing. Beautiful high resolution screen, memory card, a real usb port, more memory and did I say what a beautiful screen! Looking at it right now with the little clock display at the edge for night time view. No need to touch to get the time. It's just there Anyway, I am a dedicated Apple fan and have lots of Apple products, but you know, sometimes it is worthwhile to peek outside of the Apple box and discover the "other" around you. They really have superb products and Apple needs to watch out... I have tasted the other side... and it is good, or should I say better

I imagine these threads pop up frequently. No doubt Samsung builds amazing devices. Like you, I have an Apple house but I just switched from Android back to iOS. It's easier for me to have full music and photo backups and the timely OS updates are key.
BUT, you have to give Samsung props for screens and cameras! I had a S7 edge and then a Pixel before the 7+.

Enjoy. I could only last 5 months with my 7S Edge before it got really laggy. Plus rarely got any updates through the carrier. Pretty sad that Nougat has been out since August, and the Edge just got updated this month, nearly 7 months later.

If you don't like the larger screens, the S7 is better for one-handed use. Some good deals too.

Newer is not always better.

S7/S7 edge are great devices and the S8/S8 plus looks amazing too and will sale great i'm sure. That said I love how my apple devices sync and i'm too invested in apple to leave as I really do like IOS better.

Thats not to say I won't get the S8 plus too but IOS will always be my main OS I go to. Updates matter to me and with apple you know you are getting the best new OS each year

I like Samsung phones but I always find myself coming back to the iPhone. I recently went from the Sammy S7 to the iPhone SE.

Nougat update completely ruined there S7. So damn buggy. Loving the compact size of the SE. No regrets. Hoping to see an SE 2 in the near future.

Grass is always greener on the other side! However, after a while on the other side you'll start noticing that both sides have their flaws and their problems. However, you won't know these things until you jump to the other side and spend some time enjoying it. You may find that the other side has stuff to your liking even with its flaws (because yes, both sides have flaws). Only way to know is to try. Feel free to write another review a month or two from now and see if anything has changed in your opinions - I would be interested to know.

What will be really interesting is when the Pixel 2 comes out in September to compete against the iPhone 8. Pure android os vs Apple ios. The true battle of the titans.

I agree with not needing the latest, but I bet as the launch of the S8 comes nearer there'll be even better deals on the S7 and S7 Edge. I'm glad that the OP is happy with their purchase and I definitely don't mean to take away from that, but I just thought the timing was weird.

Instead of the S7 Edge, a better option would be the LG G6 for a cheaper price. $670 vs $700. Plus a very small bezel with a 5.7 inch screen. The phone is about the same size as the S7 Edge.

I tested Nougat for approximately an hour or so and that was enough for me. It had a slower responsiveness aside from being glitchy.

I do believe Apple will revamp the SE in 2018. I don't see them re-creating a 4 inch iPhone for one year and then abandoning it completely. I see the iPhone SE 2 Easley making another appearance somewhere in 2018.

I think this is a fair point. And it's not to say that Nougat is not a good operating system. But you're correct, when you start adding in all these other launchers and platforms, it does play in effect with the overall software formants. Likely, it's an optimization effect on and how everything performance as a whole.

I'm not aware if you can revert back with the OS on Samsung.

And with my experiences with the iOS updates, I've never had any real issues with poor performance. I have experienced some glitches, but they usually are rectified with further iOS updates. And if you ever encounter glitches with iOS, I tend to report them to Apple.

I am happy with my Samsung S7 as well. For me, a massive difference between 6.0 and 7.0 (Nougat).
I did first a factory reset and the fully configured the phone again, took me about 2 hours to set up. But everything runs really smooth and fast. No app crashing and hardly (to none) any lag

My Samsung S7 is as smooth/fast/snappy as my iPhone 7 (on iOS 10.3).

Why would you recommend the G6? Worse screen, worse camera, not that much faster processor, and worse software are not selling points.

Congrats! Samsung makes some really nice hardware, I had a note 7 and it was an amazing phone (exploding battery aside) But.... I just couldn't deal with how messy and garbled android is... so much bloatware and random unused apps I couldnt hide or get rid of, couldnt get a decent messaging app that could send videos or large files seamlessly like imessage.... every function had 2 apps for it, one from samsung and one from google (i.e. calendars, phone, contacts, etc..) and yes I tinkered with it and downloaded apps to remove the bloatware, and experimented with different settings...At the end I came back to the Zen, smooth and neatly organized iOS... but damn if i don't miss that beautiful screen and form factor of the samsung.
