iOS and Android, particularly Samsung's flavor of it have their pluses and minuses. I respect both platforms and I respect people who are willing to explore both with an open mind. Congratulations on your new phone and I hope you enjoy it. There may be hiccups on the path but there are many nice people here who will help you as they have helped me and I will try to help, too, though mostly that would consist of consulting my more tech savvy husband and passing along his answers when I can.

Through AT&T I got security patches in a decently timely manner. We did get Nougat and I didn't think the wait was that unbearable given that I bought it for Marshmallow, which was good enough that I am still running it even though I don't have to. I am just fine with Marshmallow for now. I have Nougat on my HTC 10. Everyone has a different take on what they absolutely must have and when. I respect that.

I could live happily and permanently on Samsung exclusively if not for the people I'm needing to communicate with the most being wedded to iMessage. I do also like Apple's News App. I love my iPhone SE, and 7 Plus. But I love my Samsungs and my HTC 10, too. I'm having so much fun with both worlds. Samsung is definitely geared toward shopping and entertainment. They partner with so many different merchants like Amazon and I take advantage of that to get deals and discounts and freebies. I love playing around in VR, though it's not for everyone.

It really is a great idea to break out and explore what Android has to offer. If you do end up going back to iOS, at least you will have a much more informed perspective with which to evaluate Apple's endeavors and see where they are truly slacking and where their successes are more sublime.

I must admit that non-iPhones have been tempting with their expandability and ability to easily run non-app store stuff, but as it currently stands I won't be upgrading for years, and we'll see how each stacks up then.

Why would you recommend the G6? Worse screen, worse camera, not that much faster processor, and worse software are not selling points.

And one can great a good deal now on the s7e or s7, and even better if you buy one preowned.

It did not take me long to become uninterested in the lg g6. It is a last year's smartphone just looking at its specs so obviously just buy a Samsung from last year or something else even cheaper than the g6.

The screen is better on the G6, with more accurate color, and greater pixel density. The phone can do both HDR10 and DV HDR, has been shown to be faster than the S7 Edge, larger screen, and of course, does not have
touchwiz. Comes with google home for free, and if you are a new verizon customer, comes with a 43 inch tv.

LG software makes TW look good. I'm not talking about aesthetics, I'm talking about how crap it runs. Prepare for boot loop.

Edit: Also, you can set the S7 to have accurate colors.

Running Macs, iMacs, iPhones, iPads and have now switched to the dark side!

Just got a nice Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Oh my what a difference!

I didn't even know what I was missing. Beautiful high resolution screen, memory card, a real usb port, more memory and did I say what a beautiful screen! Looking at it right now with the little clock display at the edge for night time view. No need to touch to get the time. It's just there :) Anyway, I am a dedicated Apple fan and have lots of Apple products, but you know, sometimes it is worthwhile to peek outside of the Apple box and discover the "other" around you. They really have superb products and Apple needs to watch out... I have tasted the other side... and it is good, or should I say better :)
Excellent! Enjoy it!

The Night Clock us amazing :D I also use it. I use both Always On Display (AOD) and Night Clock.

I have set Night Clock to activate at 23:45 and turn off at 06:45am where it switches back to AOD, it's incredibly convenient.

It's really awesome that you are open to trying new things. It's something that everybody should really do -- with food, with experiences, and in this case, even with phones. Seriously, you're only here once so why not become more experienced about a market that interests you -- phones?

I was talking to someone recently about Samsung's new S8. They said "it looks really nice, but I just don't like Samsung's phones." I proceeded to ask why, and basically their answer came back to, "I just don't like them. They aren't iPhones." How can you say that if you're never owned one? You know what I mean?

Anyway, enjoy the new phone. Cheers!

I tested Nougat for approximately an hour or so and that was enough for me. It had a slower responsiveness aside from being glitchy.
Interesting. On what phone did you test it on?

I'm now on a Nexus 6P, coming from an iPhone, and what surprised me was the fluidity of Android. A smooth mobile OS that isn't iOS? What? Not possible! Or so I thought. Curious to hear your thoughts.

No bootloops on the G5. That was a G4 issue. I could say the same thing about Samsung. Prepare for exploding batteries. Sheesh.

Just wait until you have to group message iPhone users or reply to a thread which was created when you were on your iPhone. I enjoy the customization and what not as much as the next guy, but where Android fails is messaging. It doesn't jive for whatever reason :(

So you found one with the issue. I can find ones with exploding S7 Edges too. I could also post where hundreds of people are complaining about the laggy S7 edge. At least I can say it, since I have owned it. Have you owned the G5?

When I read about the boot looping issue (more than one, that was just a quick search), I decided to not buy it. Why would I buy a phone that boot loops? I can, at least, fix lag issues on an Android phone by doing things like disabling services and getting rid of animations. I can't do much about a phone that refuses to boot.

You don't own a G6. How do you know it bootloops? You are comparing apples to oranges. It would be like me saying the S8 is laggy based on S7 reports. Or the S8 will have battery issues based on the Note 7.

Enjoy. I could only last 5 months with my 7S Edge before it got really laggy. Plus rarely got any updates through the carrier. Pretty sad that Nougat has been out since August, and the Edge just got updated this month, nearly 7 months later.

One reason why I will never go back to Android. AS far as the screen, I always felt the colors were over satuarted. Even on my S4 when taking photos. Not natural. I think my 6s Plus colors are more true. But, then again, I don't like the 4k TV look either. All IMHO--:)

I was simply trying to point out that LG software is worse than Samsung's. Because it is, a thousand percent, worse than Samsung's. People hate on TW here, but mostly don't know what they're talking about.

I personally can only speak for the V20 as it's the only LG phone I've had. But I haven't had any boot loop issues and performance has been very stable and quick. The only issue is onscreen battery life is subpar.

If the G6 is anything like or better than the V20, then I wouldn't worry.

Alright. I'm more than okay with being wrong on this one, I'm just nervous about anything LG in the smartphone arena.

That was a one off. Which happened with a specific model. I've owned the note 1, note 3, note 4, S4, S5 and S7 edge and none of them exploded.

Exactly. I have a Note 5, Note 4, Note Edge, all of which are still working perfectly today. I am waiting for the Note 8 and skipping the S8 this year. I'll keep using my S7 Edge till then.

My dad has used the S2, S4 and note 4 and they didn't explode. My husband the S3, note 3 and S6 edge plus and they are all intact.

At the end I came back to the Zen, smooth and neatly organized iOS... but damn if i don't miss that beautiful screen and form factor of the samsung.

I really can't get over how gorgeous the S7 screen is. Not that iPhone screens are terrible, but since I have been playing around with a S7 I purchased, I just sometimes stare in awe at the screen.

I'm in the same boat as you in that I can't stand the bloatware and that I can't delete or hide the useless apps that I will never use.
