I'm hoping the same.. i set it for Friday so I can make sure as well that the bootcamp backup is good.

Return to Sender!

I started up the 27" this morning and noticed very slow opening and a lot of beach balls. Rebooted with no help and decided to go to Disk Utiiity. The 1TB Drive was highlighted in RED! A note indicated that the drive was failing, backup and call Apple. Yikes!!!!

Called Apple and got a specialist who indicated the drive should not be failing in a new machine and that they would send me a new one. They will send me labels today FedEx and it will probably be picked up tomorrow. When they gert the Tracking # they will authorize shipment of the new one. The tech thought it would come from a stateside source. I could not stand another Flight 84 experience. He said because of the early failure of the drive the engineers want to look at it.

I have a full backup on my Time Machine Drive and will migrate from that when I get the new one.

Have a great day... thank God I have the BU and my laptop to keep me alive.

NVJack - That's Awesome! Now you get that tint issue wiped out as well.
Did they offer a deal whereby they take your credit card number, ship you a new machine, then when the new one gets there, THEN you ship the old one back? They charge your card if you don't return the old one. Just an option. But I think this is great news. A PITA but I bet you'll get a great screen.

No CC... just call their rep with the Tracking # tomorrow and they will ship overnight to me. Friday... doubtful, but Monday looks good for the replacement.

I just hope my BU is fine and have to tweak the system some when I get it but like you I hope the screen on the bottom is good...:)

So my beautiful i7 has a defective mini-DisplayPort. I can't connect an external monitor (so I can have two monitors, I'm not trying to play content back on the iMac from another source).

I'm so sad. After reaching an Apple Tech that was frankly, pretty useless (reset my PRAM -- really?), I was told I'd need to take it in for repair. WhenI explained that was unacceptable seeing as I just got the darn thing on Friday, I was transferred to a sales service agent who was very nice and placed a new order for me, prepared an RMA for the existing iMac and told me that I should get a new iMac on December 4.

At least I can use this one until the new one arrives and then transfer everything over.

Sorry to hear you are having a problem also.

I wonder when the tech explained the return procedure for mine and said they would ship overnight if they have the 27 i7's to spare? We will see:rolleyes:

Thanks Jack! Sorry about yours as well! Such a bummer!

Well my rep told me that I would get my shipping label info within 24 hours but it would take more than that to get me a new unit. She said that the fastest she could get it to me would be on December 4th. Hopefully yours will get to you faster!

No luck and my hunch was right. 2-3 weeks and I asked for special handling due to the delay. She indicated they are backed up waiting on the 4850 boards... I got my shipping labels and they will pick it up tomorrow morning. I guess my laptop will get some heavy use in the next two weeks or more...

Wow. It seems like all of us have some sort of issue. Is this the first huge quality control issue Apple's had?

i'm fairly certain I caused the crack in my screen, but it was due to the film not coming off easily..... they should have said to start at a corner :)

but those issues, damn.. that's unacceptable... sorry guys!

NVJack - I'd call back and ask to ship the old one back after the new one arrives. They WILL do this. It's always an option. I was given this option with this one. My old white iMac was dying and that's how they did this. I just shipped the white back yesterday. They also did this with a bad iPhone
.

Thanks meagain. But really it does me no good to hold the old one.. the HD was not working and it could totally fail anytime and possibly mess up my data on the backup. I was getting the beach ball all the time and having to reboot after lockups. My Macbook 13" can see me through for a couple of weeks.

Geez, did our flight 84 suffer extreme turbulence or something? So far the only issue I've encountered is the space bar of my keyboard didn't seem quite right and now it's starting to stick as of this morning, so a replacement is on the way. Other than that, all is running as it should and I'm very pleased with the performance...so sorry for the troubles everyone else is experiencing-at least you know Apple will make it right, albeit it's a real let down to have issues right from the git go.

I noted today that the 27's are shipping in 5-7 business days as of today. I got my order # and status shows 5-7 days... must have gotten their shipment from ATi...

Flight 84 where are you....

I just went to the apple store, and now on the phone for 40 minutes or so. They're shippping a new one out ASAP. Should have expected ship date in minutes. It's 'top priority' for replacement since it's an applecare. they bumped it to two day shipping (no overnight? WTF).... but that's ok.. i did the overlapping return, so they billed my card again, then when they get the broken one back, (i guess confirmation from courier) they refund it.. that way no down time..

oh well.
i wonder what percentage of these were defective.

Let us know what date they give you....

Ships: 5 - 7 business days
Delivers: Dec 1 - Dec 7

My order was placed yesterday and I spoke to the rep a couple of hours ago. She said the best estimate she could give me was between 11/27 and 12/1 for shipment, but they really don't know for sure.

I expect to see something the end of next week, hopefully sooner...:rolleyes

I'd be pissed if I were you Jack. Mine is functional. I had to do the whole 'buy it twice' to get it here before sending in the original, but it's on a credit card, so I don't really care.

Yeah I called on Wednesday and the fastest my rep said she could get me one (this is just the stock i7) would be on December 4 (it'll ship the 3rd and she said that I should get it on the 4th -- that's what my tracking thing says now too).

Here's the only thing that pisses me off, and unfortunately there's really not anything I can do:

So they will let me send back my current i7 when I receive the new one, but I won't get my credit refunded until they get this old one back. Consequently, I'm going to have ~$2400 in cash tied up until at least December 8th or 9th (when they get the old one back and then credit my account). That sucks. The alternative would be for me to ship the i7 back now and then use my MacBook for another two weeks, but really, after waiting almost 3 weeks in the first place, I don't want to have to wait another two weeks just to be able to use the computer, especially since it's completely functional other than the miniDisplayPort not working (and even so, the faster speed outweighs the slight real-estate loss I have by not having my 1280x800 screen and my 1920x1080 secondary monitor on my old setup).

Frustrating. I'm ultimately happy with how Apple handled this (the customer service lady in the sales department was totally sweet -- the tech support guy was practically useless -- he wanted me to take it into the Apple Store to get fixed, which I flat out refused to do, as it would only end up taking MORE time to get a replacement machine), but it's just disappointing to have to wait this long for a machine, then have $2400 tied up for another few weeks just to get a fully working machine.

Not to mention the bitch of transferring the data from the old one to the new one (which I think I'm just going to straight firewire and do via migration assistant this time).

ETA: I hope you do get yours at the end of next week Jack, but don't forget that Thanksgiving is on Thursday. That alone I think would set you back to Monday at the earliest for a delivery.

I meant shipping by Friday... it is Priority so we may be on the same plane again...:D

Since my 27 was not really useable I opted to get it shipped so she could order it and it only took the one day. Melissa in Corporate Customer Service was a great help and she is a great asset to Apple. She called me late yesterday to tell me she just could not get it any sooner.

I am still in limbo with Not Yet Shipped but expect that to change Monday or so

Jack
