Arrived a few minutes ago and is unboxed, memory installed, and powered on... transferring "stuff" from my 24" using Time Machine. Looks like a couple of hours for the transfer.

It looks much larger on my desk than it did in the Apple store, but it looks GOOD!

Just unboxed mine.... Quite a chore..... Now installing the memory.

I use the Carbon Copy Clone backup to select the items I want to restore. When I upgraded the 24" to Snow Leopard I just dragged the apps over and it brought the serial numbers with it.

Then have to prepare the 24" for my granddaughter as I sold her 20" white one the other day.

Just got back in from appointments and the weekend begins! I just finished installing 4 more GB of RAM for a total of 8 GB and since I have the whole weekend, I've decided to do a customized re-install of the OS without some of the options...may as well save a little more space-though I'm not too worried with a TB hard drive! I am so tempted to just transfer my settings over from my MacBook Pro and be done with it, but I need to clean house so to speak...good to do a fresh start here and again.

Anybody else reinstalling the OS? Just wondering because there wasn't an option to erase and install, just to install so that's what I'm doing...I guess it just automatically erases the factory installation and does a fresh install...? I hope I wasn't supposed to go into Disk Utility first and erase the hd first...but everything seems to be proceeding just fine. I've done installs with the stand alone copy of Snow Leopard but not with a bundled factory install disk.

Congrats again to everyone-hopefully all Flight 84 alumni have received their iMacs by now-or will before the day's out! :D

You should be able to do the erase and install. I have done it several times upgrading to SL and need to do it on my 24" which goes to my granddaughter.

Time Machine transfer went perfect. Only iTunes was corrupted so redownloaded and it is also perfect. It sure is fast, even compared to my 24". I am totally up now with the 27" and the 24" is going in the original box for transfer to the new owner.

Been a fun time these past few days and enjoying the new contacts. If you were not a Apple fanboy before this experience, you are now...:D

Got some tweaking to do so everyone have a great time with your new Flight 84 Toy....

Thanks, gasport...I just had a mental moment and forgot to erase the hard drive first and just went ahead and clicked install and off it went. It seemed to install fine, but I'm wondering if it just installed over the existing factory install and if it would be best for me to just start over and erase the disk first and re-install again. Me thinks my intentions are creating more work than necessary at this point.
Maybe I should just erase, re-install and use the migration assistant and start clean another time...I'm anxious to just get going with this fantastic machine-I have lots of photos to cull through and process and can't wait to see how this baby handles Aperture!

PieMac, I'm curious why you did the reinstall? Did you have trouble out of the box with it or is that how you decided to migrate stuff. Just wondering.

I read about people reinstalling straight away due to the Flash issues and whatnot, but I didn't... I have no issues at all. I'm in love.

No problems, really...I was just being on the safe side because sometimes you can get a corrupt factory install and, as jmuchrisf pointed out, there have been some problems reported supposedly related to the factory install on the first releases of the new iMacs. Too, I just like to do a clean install every now and then for good measure and thought this would be a good time, but now I've decided the heck with it! I decided to erase and re-install and I'm just going to use the migration assistant so I can get started enjoying it without any delays.

I erased the hard drive and reinstalled and it boots a lot faster now.
However, swiping on the Magic Mouse was not working afterward even though the factory disc is 10.6.2 and after install it had the Magic Mouse icon in System Preferences. I decided to reinstall the Magic Mouse update and it fixed the problem. Also, swiping was working before I decided to reinstall.

Also my screen flashed twice before I decided to reinstall. I'm not sure what caused it, but the screen went blank for about 2 seconds at different times. After I reinstalled it has not happened yet, and it has been on a lot longer since before the reinstall.

Things are working great now, and have been for almost 24 hours.

Finally here.

Distance: 6917.12miles - Time: 51hrs 33mins 0secs - Avg Speed: 134.18mph

7 Minutes til I leave work and run home to set it up! Wahoo!

So everyone is accounted for? (thinking Con Air landing)

I'm up and running but I think I'm going to reinstall. Video is a tad choppier than my old machine here and there. I'm doing a time machine backup and if that 'ever' completes, I'll restore it from there.

I'm not sure about the mouse. Not sure I dig it. BBL

I think I will be doing the full wipe and reinstall as well, I want to start as fresh as possible!!! Another two hours till I get to open up the box!

Any other tips for a newbie? Such as migrating 100gb iTunes library and syncing iPhone 3GS....

Flight 84 cargo at work.... worth the wait.

Nevada - Very nice! :) I'm still playing around with mine. Discovered my fave screensavers won't work because they're not in 64 bit or something (yet). I'll live :D

I enjoyed looking at your photos!

(EDIT: I take back what I said about the mouse (not liking it much). Now I love it.)

Anyone feel text in most everything is teensy?

I am still having some issues with the mouse. I did loose the connection once.

In the process of reinstalling the application individually as I wanted to weed out the ones that were there because I got them as some part of a bundle. Thank goodness for License Keeper...

That is a lot of hardware to the left.... I assume that is a photoprinter. What brand and how do you like it?

During casual use while I was working yesterday (at home) I didn't like the keyboard and mouse.. but once the family went to sleep, and I got to surf/play/code for a few hours dedicated on the iMac, I love them both. It's going to take some more getting used to with the mouse. I'm used to buttons. tons of buttons on my logitech gamer mouse thingy.. we'll see if I continue with the magic mouse or switch the bluetooth logitech keyboard/mouse over... we'll see ;)

the past few days were fun.

Thanks meagain... I am quite the camera nut also...:D

I am geting used to the mouse also... it is small to the hand which is what I found to be an initial problem. And yes, the text is small! I went into Safari preferences and under the Advanced tab increase the type size but in some instances I don't like the result. I will work it out.

Yes, a few external HD's, card readers and some hubs. I found that my FW Hub was 400 and the plug would not work with the 800 on the iMac. Ordered a converter which should be here early next week. My RAW files from my Canon 7D are about 25MB or so and the UBS reader take forever to download.

The Printer is a new Canon MP560 Wireless. Found it on Amazon for $99. Works really well, quiet and pretty fast. Setup was a snap...just plug it in and it hunts for your network. If is fine for what I do printwise... never bigger than 8x10.

Here is a shot but I have a dust rag over it... but you can see the size. The compartment to the far left is my Airport and Modem which covers my hi-speed and phone service. The black HD to the right is now on a small table to the right of my main desk and is my Time Machine and Quicken Backup drive.

Watch in HD. (it's a gorgeous vid so watch it even for kicks)

I ran it yesterday on both my 24" white 2.16gHz and new simultaneously. The 27" had some very slight stuttering. I repeated this 3 times. Now my 27" seems more sensitive reading my Time Capsule 'net more than the other so I wonder if that is the cause? Yes, I'm seeing stutter again.

I don't want to fresh install but maybe I should just get it over with.

2 things:

1. I wish I could make the screen brighter. It doesn't go to 'blinding mode' like my first gen air. Compared to my 24" white, it seems dimmer on max.
I will probably never set this on anything but max and I keep wanting to turn it up but can't.

2. Speakers not so hot. I'm actually preferring my white. More bass - richer. There is no increase in volume on the 27" either over it.

NEVADA - if you figure out any more tricks for text size, LMK. My mail and youtube text, etc. is ant size. My old machine has bigger text everywhere.

A fantastic video... makes one wonder why we can do such great things to enjoy our days but find so many more ways to destroy our civilization. Love the music track also. I didn't have any stuttering... could be your connection?

My screen is super bright... had to turn it down to about 75% brightness on the Display icon in Settings. I calibrated my screen with Spyder Pro and it seems pretty close to what my 24" was. I will hunt for the secret to make the overall text larger...:D

Nevada - I was just about to go searching for calibration threads on this. Mind sharing some settings?

Which 24" did you have? Maybe something is up with my 27" that I don't find it brighter than my 3 year old.

No stuttering here, but I did a clean install and upgraded my RAM to 8 GB. The screen is bright, but it seems maybe a tad less bright than my 24" LED display...I really didn't compare the two side by side, though. Try re-doing the install and see if that doesn't possibly help both issues.
