Update to the new version the day of release?

Not difficult when there's only one iPhone platform out there. Not the case when Sony, LG, Samsung and others are all out there offering users a more specific and unique experience based on the users having choices. Would be great for me to get Android L at the same time as others, but the reality is just like with Kit-Kat in the interim period lots of updated apps offering similar functionality come about to make the transition smoother and the wait less painful.

Case in point, I have a new notification system, SMS app, Calender and Dialer apps on my Note 3 all based off the L-Platform design. I didn't like the email option but at least I had a choice there too. Functionality and workings within them are great.

Show all notifications AND Widgets with a simple pull down. Android requires widgets to be displayed on the screens. They do offer notifications on Android, but full widgets from any app from a simple pull down from the top....not that I'm aware of, but I reserve the right to be wrong so I can install that feature.
so pulling the panel down at first, then scrolling up and down to search the right widget, which you are looking for, is better than see them in a screen at once? btw, are you able to scroll up and down inside the the widgets (e.g. emails, news etc..) or do you need to open the app? and yes, there can be widgets in a notification list on android too. i personally want to use it just for notifications to see them all quickly..

for example music player does it... i have couple "widgets" on the notification list as an example. i usually dont use any "widgets" on notification area, i use them on the homescreens... a battery widget and spotify...

My Nexus 5 has all what's incoming (Facebook, emails, etc etc) on top of the screen for pull down. You talk about older Android versions? Isn't that something that Apple copied from Android?

Update to the new version the day of release?

I never did that with iOS. And don't do that with Android. The release date for is when I start observing the forums for specific topics. So I never upgraded to iOS7 after I read how many people hated it.

I have my Note 3 on Kit Kat and know the notifications well. What I'm talking about is the iOS implementation of widgets. I've not updated my iPad yet so I can't give full first hand examples but I know on my Note while I can do a pretty thorough configuration of widgets, I for example can't pull down from any app to see my To-Do Task Manager Pro Widget. I have to go to the home screen for that. It will do notifications though.

Please don't say cannot be done. On android there are apps which can host widgets. You can either use gestures or floating icon to bring out a window that contains widgets from anywhere. You can even have it in your notification.

The point is on android you can have widgets anywhere you want instead at one place.

First, read post #98

Second, sure, I can use a gesture to bring forth or launch an app such as To-Do Task Manager Pro Widget but I don't know of a way to pull up it's widget by swiping down. Feel free to share some of the better apps that host widgets and would allow the widget to be pulled down while in say email or calender, etc.

I think you can checkout an app called flippr I think. There are others but I can't recall their names.

Okay...not good. I was hopeful, but flippr execution is poor. Looking for one that works like iOS8's implementation.

just search around. There should be many others. Anything is possible - e.g app has put widgets in lockscreen, notification, floating panel (like flippr).

...But was announced on January 9th, 2007. Back at'cha.

And by your own admission, the iPhone was in development for years. So what do we have here? Something that magincally appeared overnight? I guess you can add this to the list of 'coincedences' with the LG Prada and the iPhone all developed simultaneously, huh? Or maybe, just maybe, the industry as a whole was moving towards this sort of design style and away from Blackberry keyboard phones. Something to consider.

Personally, I don't give a crap who started what first. I own an iPhone 6, an iPod 4th gen and an iMac. And enjoy them all (except the ipod. It has sucked since day 1 and can't update past IOS6.) But I don't for one second place Apple on some pedestal that is somehow better than everything else around it. And I sure as hell don't wear rose colored, Apple engraved glasses. You might want to take yours off and take a look around at the real world every once in a while. You might like it.

Or maybe, just maybe, it wasn't. Reviewers moaned about the lack of a keyboard on the iPhone and competitors made fun of it. The Prada, it should be mentioned ADDED a keyboard on the Prada 2.0. The industry was most certainly NOT moving away from keyboards.

In this post, I said (essentially) that Apple's vision and design has been slavishly copied by numerous competitors, and that's the truth. I've also said that Apple has absolutely copied features from Android and from individual Android manufacturers.

But now it seems they ran out of ideas. The iPhone 6 looks so much like Sony Xperia. Does it matter? Not really.... Just think, those in glass houses....

And for Apple as such, their ideas com from the early Braun products from the 60th and 70th. Can't see why that should be a problem. It's wasn't just anything new.

How the heck did we end up in that silly squabble again? The OP posted a very straightforward question which has nothing to do with that.

you have been able to backup app data before... e.g. helium has been popular for that and sync between devices. and stock, no root required.

To the OP it does matter. Trying to work the discussion to a point where there are so many "rules" and Ios wins the argument!

The OP wants to see things you can do on Android but not iOS. IMO, iOS won't win that argument no matter how hard anyone tries  Having options and yes, apps like Helium make the point of why Android works better. I do however see your poke and fun sarcasm. I approve :)
