Revisiting "Random Access Memories" by Daft Punk. Still a masterpiece
Well, I have been on Amazon.
Nostalgia notwithstanding, I do miss those old style record shops staffed by young (or youngish, or - sometimes a bot older) music enthusiasts - who knew artists, composers, recordings - and had strong views on the lot - you didn't have to take this on board! - where you could argue and discuss music to your heart's content and order music as a result of a conversation.
Amazon - yes, it is okay - most of the time - but, well, the personal touch is, sadly, lacking.
Anyway, I have been re-acquainting myself with some of the more obscure recordings made by the wonderful Roberto Rodriguez.
[doublepost=1477609762][/doublepost]Okay, the track I am listening to just this minute comes from that world - mariachi meets spaghetti western filtered through a modern sensibility:
The CD is the splendid "Mexico and Mariachis" and the quiet lovely track I am currently enjoying is "Por Mi Camino".
Do tell me, @jkcerda, if this is what passes for Mexican music.....because I must say that I have become quite partial to it...murderous guitars and all, lapsed liberal though I am....
wow, this would be right at home in the series "Narcos" . just because of the flow.
it's a neat mix SS . thanks for that.
there are very few that I know old school. but this one I loveWell, to my mind, it is a brilliant CD - and is one I am listening to just now.
Any other recommendations are more than welcome.
the Lyrics make the song greatMy brother put me in touch with the superb music of Los Panchos some years ago; I love them.
Alas, my Spanish is non-existent - I can express myself half decently in French, and Russian, and can strangle my way through basic German, along with sub-basic Italian (not least because I have three years of Latin from school), but, Spanish, alas.....
Okay: Please rank those links - what must I hear, and what ought I listen to?
All I can say is awesome!the Lyrics make the song great

translation does not always "work".
Los Dandy's were old school IIRC.
I prefer the deep meaning behind the songs of Vicente Fernandez.
trios are always good.

Hope you enjoy it.I did consult Amazon, and read the reviews posted about "A Day In The Sun" by The Friends of Dean Martinez.
Are his/their other albums similar to this, or is this one unusually good?
And yes, dear reader, I have placed an order for the CD, although I do not expect to be in a position to take delivery of this item for a few weeks yet (early to mid November, Amazon seemed to suggest).
Hope you enjoy it.
I don't know if you use Spotify at all, but there are some on there to give you a general idea of the other albums. Not all of them are winners, to my ears.
Of course then there is also Calexico, Green Car Motel etc. And before you know it you may be veering off towards Labradford, Explosions in the Sky, God Speed You! Black Emperor…
But right now I'm listening to Poème Harmonique - Il Fásolo.
Ah, I love music.
Disclaimer: Not all of it, mind.
Well this 52 year old teenager will be happy to point you in the right direction. The upshot of all this is that there is a whole world of online activity that I am not terribly familiar with -actually, to be honest, not at all familiar with - and Spotify is a part of that.
So, unfortunately, you could count me completely clueless about it. I need some bright (and patient) teenager to sit down and explain it to me - which would have been easily done in my teaching days.
And never before has so much music been so easily accessible. New discoveries almost every day.But agreed: I love music, too, and cannot conceive how anyone would choose to live without it.

I find Spotify very useful. I use the free version — yes with ads that sometimes come at the most inappropriate moments — but only to listen to a couple tracks and see if something piques my fancy. With Amazon or iTunes the 30 seconds is rarely enough.
Try it!

Though I have fond memories of browsing, hours on end, through vinyl albums at the music shop. Or ordering by catalogue and then sometimes months later gratification!
Always excellent.Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Moanin'
Very nice for a rainy Sunday.
And it is pouring here today, just like the album...
