In a coffee shop.
"Space Oddity", written by, of course, (and usually, when I listen to it, sung by) David Bowie, but sung, on this occasion, by Commander Chris Hadfield in an amazing and spell-binding interpretation, on board the ISS. Absolutely incredible.

This (Perfume)

that was good! i was having YMO - 'Rydeen' flashbacks... yay for getting old!

monday, having a hard time getting going. coffee and rockabilly usually helps. couple of my favorites that i'll end up singing all day now that i've watched...

dude puts on a crazy good live show, and also does a killer cover of 'Folosom Prision Blues' if you're a Cash fan. cheers.

Perfume (and more specifically Yasutaka Nakata, their producer) are seen in Japan as heading the re-emergence of electropop, following in the footsteps of YMO. Perfume are awesome!

Loves me some Reverend Horton Heat. 'Bales of Cocaine' is a favourite - cracks me up!

thanks, and thanks again! just looked up Nakata, and now waist deep in 'Capsule' tracks and still looking for other 'Perfume' to add to the pile. started playing the first one you linked, and within the first 3 seconds had YMO pop into my mind. old is new again and all that. couldn't even take a SWAG on how many YMO cassettes i wore out back in the day -- big pile for sure.

'Bales' is also one of my favorites, just didn't list it because i was showing my kids the other two when i linked. still in the protect and preserve phase... they can learn about real life later. they ran around all after noon yelling 'baby, baby, baby, baby'. life is good. :)

edit: return the favor, or die trying. if you like Horton, you'd also like 'Southern Culture on the Skids' if you haven't found them yet. twang + funny = awesome. recommend 'banana puddin' and 'camel walk' as good starting points.

Fantastic! Nakata also produces Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, who is an internet phenomenon in her own right. Perfume put on the most incredible concerts... there's some fantastic footage on YouTube of tracks like:
Edge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kjo0HQAVcg
and

They're fantastic! I definitely like the more distorted guitar sound, and you can't beat a bit of tremolo. I think I have my next couple of CD purchases sorted out! Thanks! :D

ZOMG - i love this song.

...Nakata

damn. i was going to let this go. can't. 3rd thank you in a row. you win! :)

loved both of the live links, but found a 'Capsule' track i can't quit playing. we turned the logitech set up to 11 and turned the office into a impromptu mosh pit. new favorite song - 'Tapping Beats'.

can really hear Nakata's influence on lots of their (Perfume)tracks, especially the newer stuff. can't believe this was not in my playlist. full of KTN, Zomboy, Coyote kisses, etc. time for a new/old/old-new update! gonna have the hardest bumpin minivan in the midwest fo shure.

Jethro Tull: "Reasons For Waiting." A lovely song...

very lovely. epic album, first time Barre appeared, first time Ian was calling the shots, first time a mandolin was used on a rock album. Tull/Ian have been pushing the edges for a really long time now... from the same album (stand up) also a huge fan of #3 'Bouree'. transcribed the guitar/bass part to piano, and taught the flute part (mostly) to my younger sister, and we had a friend play a 3 piece trap set for rhythm. we won a bunch of talent shows as kids with that bit. thanks for the good memory.

...an absolute classic from the 1970s - called 'Long Lankin'

... Martin Simpson's 'The Bramble Briar'

double damn. ok you two, i swear i'm done for awhile. used up all the letters on my keyboard, and going to totally go over my bandwidth cap for the month after today and all the downloads and youtube. :D

love both of those. have both of those. thought i'd add another that the infamous MR search thingy said hadn't been mentioned yet. 'When I Go'.

dave (playing banjo) unfortunately passed away from a heart attack not long ago, and tracy (playing violin) is still gigging away, but seems to have been hit hard by the loss of her partner, her newer stuff to me is missing something. love the lyrics. do not go gentle into that good night sounds like a good plan to me.

Yes, I love 'Bouree', too. An absolute classic, beautifully done. When I first heard it, oh, years (decades) ago, I remember having been utterly blown away. Sheer, class......

Ah, another fan; welcome to the club, and I'm delighted that you really like this music.

six and picks

woke up in a guitar slinger mood today. favorite wire rider on the whole damn planet would be Andy Timmons. i want to be Andy Timmons when i grow up, but that's never going to happen (guitar playing or growing up...), so i'll just keep listening and copying his licks to figure out how he make the beautiful thing sing.

a Pink Martini should do the trick.

YouTube: video

I absolutely love Pink Martini. As it happens, I have most of their albums, and have had the privilege of seeing them play live.

Great post, and I am delighted to see someone else post one of my favourite groups. (As performers, they are every bit as classy, courteous, professional and utterly sublime as one would expect..)

Theme to the TV series 'Cosmos'. The TV series, excellent at the time, was made by the late, great, Carl Sagan, and the wonderfully atmospheric music, naturally, was by Vangelis.

Just started listening to The Roots really like this song.

man, that is good. like the video as well, really well done.

The truly gifted and tragically haunting Israel Kamakawiwo'ole singing his beautiful song "Hawai'i 78".

saw this post, love Iz. my bro-in-law was navy and stationed on Oahu, and has some amazing bootlegs from Iz concerts he attended while there. i've also been on a Hawaii kick as of late, good memories and all that. one of the best live shows i've ever seen was on Maui watching Led Kaapana play. found a good example to post. aloha.
