"Building" – Phillip Glass Ensemble

I've been meditating to this for a couple years because it's long enough to time myself with, lacks distracting lyrics, and is unpredictable enough to snap me out of inadvertent thought every so often.

I'm a fan of a lot of what Philip Glass wrote, but I find you have to be in a particular mood before you want to listen to it.

I agree. I was first exposed to Phillip Glass by a professor who gave me a few hundred songs on a thumb drive. Apparently, he'd play some of Einstein on the Beach during his multi-hour sketching classes, and students' reactions to it were… mixed.

This has been followed by a few from Arthur Lee (Love Forever Changes, an album I just love), and now, several tracks from the awesome Los Lobos with their wonderful album The Ride.

A couple by another favorite band (Hail of Bullets) who just imploded. It probably would have been more upsetting if Martin Van Drunen was still screaming for 'em, but thankfully he hit the road almost 18 months ago.

A few from XTC, - a terrific group from the late 70s and 80s: "Generals and Majors", "We're Only Making Plans For Nigel", "Senses Working Overtime", "The Mayor of Simpleton", "The Ballad of Peter Pumkinhead" and the simply fantastic "Dear God".

Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs is playing in the back round. It was the only album by Derek and Domino if I remember correctly.

Enjoy.

A classic - and a post which reminds me to pay a fresh visit to Eric Clapton - I have several of his albums on one of my iPods (they don't all have identical libraries - space limitations on an iPod Touch bought in 2009 - and a destroyed MBP hard-drive - that old HDD - account for this discrepancy).
[doublepost=1489622138][/doublepost]And - now - for some Dire Straits, elegant, cool, classy listening from another age: The terrific "Sultans of Swing", quite lovely "Do You Think You're Going", and the simply sublime "Private Investigations"....

A piece of music called "Raquel" by Bau from the soundtrack of the excellent movie Hable Con Ella.
[doublepost=1489702401][/doublepost]Followed by the timeless classic "Where Do You Go To My Lovely?" by Peter Starstedt.

A cover of the Pink Floyd classic? (Must say I love the Pink Floyd version).
Don't know that you can call it a cover, as Dave Gilmour was in Pink Floyd and sang the song on the album, with Roger Waters. The only difference here is that Bowie is taking on Waters part. Gilmour has had a few people join him on stage for this. Benedict Cumberbatch was one of them.
