In a coffee shop.
justified season 3 episode 1.

Wrong thread, methinks, for this post.

You're listening to a tv show?

Well spotted; I hadn't noticed that until I read your post.

Still in a mood for some classical music with an elegiac note: This means Erik Satie, and his Gnossiennes. The piece I am listening to is called "Lent", which is Gnossiennes No 3.

Dark side of the Moon
Yard work today and this kept me going all the way through.
Awesome heavy/psych/instrumental band from France -
Stone From The Sky - "F- The Sun"
Don't really care for the album title, but quality music and great musicians for sure...

No yard work for me today, rain again... plenty of yard work out there if this weather pattern ever shifts.

Pawing through a collection of performances of Haydn's Andante and Variations in F minor, Hob.XVII-6. The work is often presented along with other Haydn variations, with late Haydn piano sonatas, or sometimes with Beethoven or Mozart sonatas.

It's a challenge to pick a tempo one can use to make the exposition of this work interesting and yet manage to get through the penultimate few variations alive... A recording by a then young Mikhail Pletnev brings the thing in at 8 minutes and change, which is shocking compared to the more usual ten to fourteen minutes. He must make downwards tempo adjustments in some of the early variations, because his handling of the later ones is still exquisite. It does not seem strident, clunky or desperate, all of which are possible outcomes when one tries to take that thing at too fast a clip in the last few variations before the relatively calm ending. Octave strikes, persistent trills, irregular arpeggios... the cliff beckons.

As an amateur, I've tried to play that thing myself now once in awhile for over thirty years but can't find a comfort zone for this beautiful piece of music. I grow bored playing the opening or else freak out reaching the later variations. So far in listening to Pletnev's take on it, I can't stay focused on the mechanics of what he's doing in the middle of the thing to distract the listener from the fact that he must be slowing down some to let him keep a clear articulation possible in the later variations. I always just succumb to the art. I was actually shocked the first time I heard him open the work, but I've come to prefer his performance, even though I also like the ones by Artur Rubenstein and by Orhan Medem. Pletnev recorded it when he was quite young, but somehow still managed to avoid the artistic pitfalls of being in love with motor memory and sheer muscularity the way some gifted pianists are in their early years of public performance. I'm sure some listeners will be like me and roll their eyes when they first hear his opening tempo, if they have heard the work before. No one including him could wrap the later variations to that same pace. Somehow he managed a stunning interpretation overall that to my ears still seems true to Haydn, and to the clarity of that deceptively simple theme shining through each variation. I took this track from iTunes via Apple Music.

Not normally my cup o'tea but the news, as it too often does, had me in search of one song only to find another, perhaps more astute one:

Shut up!!!
You talk too much
You talk too much
You talk too much
You talk too much

[Verse 1]
Hey! You over there, I know about your kind
You're like the Independent Network News on Channel 9
Everywhere that you go, no matter where you at
I said you talk about this, and you talk about that
When the cat took your tongue, I say you took it right back
Your mouth is so big, one bite would kill a Big Mac

[Hook]
You talk too much
You never shut up
I said you talk too much
Homeboy you never shut up

[Verse 2]
You talk about people, you don't even know
And you talk about places, you NEVER go
You talk about your girl, from head to toe
I said your mouth's moving fast, and your brain's moving slow

[Hook]
You talk too much
You never shut up!!
I said you talk too much
Homeboy you never shut up

[Verse 3]
You're the instigator, the orator of the town
You're the worst when you converse, just a big mouth clown
You talk when you're awake, I heard you talk when you sleep
Has anyone ever told you, that talk is cheap

[Hook]
You talk too much
You never shut, up!!
I said you talk too much
Homeboy you never SHUT UP!!!

[Verse 4]
Talking is the one thing, that you can do best
You told the cavity creeps, to watch out for Crest
You never have the story, right and exact
And then you always try to bore me, with your yakkity yak

[Hook]
You talk too much
And then you never shut up
I said you talk too much
Homeboy you never SHUT UP!!!

[Verse 5]
Everyday you are out fighting someone in the street
And you're always fighting someone you know ya can't beat
Then you wonder how, you got in this mess
Just think of what you said, then take a guess

[Hook]
You talk too much
You never shut up!
I said you talk too much
Homeboy you never SHUT UP!!!

[Verse 6]
You're always spreading rumors, whether bad or good
You're the damn Walter Cronkite of the neighborhood
The Barbara Walters, and the Howard Cosell
You always come around, with a story to tell

[Hook]
You talk too much
And then you never shut up
I said you talk too much
Homeboy you never SHUT UP!!!

[Verse 7]
Said it's everybody's business that you love to mind
And talkin' to you, is like dropping a dime
You're spreading the word, like it is your job
You should be a stool pigeon, who works for the mob

[Hook]
You talk too much
And you never shut up
I said you talk too much
Homeboy you never shut up!

[Verse 8]
A big blabbermouth, that's what you are
If you were a talk show host, you'd be a star

I said your mouth is big, size extra large
And when you open it, it's like my garage

[Hook]
You talk too much
And then you never shut up
I said you talk too much
Homeboy you never shut up

[Verse 9]
You always like to gossip, just like a girl
You talk so damn much, it's outta this world
When you're reincarnated, in your second life
You won't be a man, you'll be a nagging wife

[Hook]
You talk too much
Then you never shut up
He said you talk too much
Homeboy you never SHUT UP!!!

[Pre-Hook]
SHUT UP!!!
SHUT UP!!!

[Verse 10]
Twenty-five hours, eight days a week
Thirteen months outta year, is when you speak
I'm tired of listening to the garbage you talk
Why don't you find a short pier, and take a long walk

[Outro]
You talk too much
Then you never shut up!
I said you talk too much
Homeboy you never SHUT UP!!!
You talk too much
You could be, out of breath
You talk too much
Man you naggin' me to death
You talk too much
Tired of hearing you speak
You talk too much
Eight days a week
You talk too much
Then you never shut up
I said you talk too much
Why don't you ever SHUT UP!!!
You talk too much
Then you never shut up!
I said you talk too much
Homeboy you never SHUT UP!!!

I wanna do it for myself for a change
Like I'm nobody's friend
Like I owe no one nothing
Gonna do it like I don't give a damn
Like a tyrannical man
Complete dominator

This popped up in my FB feed from a post of mine 4 years ago. It's still hilarious and a good comedy listen.
