@arkitect, sorry for the lag. I got to Daedalus Books two days after seeing the Smetana disc but it was gone. I was finally able to speak with their buyer today. They told me to check back but since they deal with a lot of remaindered items it's a bit of the luck of the draw. I snoozed, we losed (sic.).

Right now I'm listening to something I'd long ago written off, Jethro Tull's Aqualung. Elsewhere on the web I discovered that the $150ish box set (vinyl, Blu-ray, DVD and 2-CD with hardbound book) is/was being sold for about $32 after shipping. Rather than snooze, I jumped; I figured I could probably unload it without taking a financial hit if I didn't care for it. This is a very highly regarded remaster. Even if one hasn't got a 5.1 surround setup, the new stereo mixes, the bonus tracks and 60-page essay/pictures).

I don't know what the shipping price is overseas, but this is certainly worth buying if you're a fan of the band and/or album. If, like me, you're on the fence then you can sample the full album here (that's what I'm listening to right now). They can be slow to ship, so I might order now, listen and you should still have time to cancel if that's your prerogative.

My turn for Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms 20th Anniversary Edition.

That's the way you do it.

Now I only replay an album if I have not listened to it in SACD multichannel.

I'm not really keen on finishing my classical CD box sets, but maybe I'll try one disc in DTS Neo once I've run out of SACDs.

I try to find new stuff on Qobuz, but I guess I mostly check back catalogs for what I haven't listened to. I guess if they had more multichannel stuff I would also listen to classical (24 bit).

I can maybe understand people buying vinyl today (more than only CD quality in digital), but cassette?

My new iPod Touch (128GB) has been introduced to my computer's iTunes library (not without drama, and......drama. The latest version of iTunes is a lot less intuitive - and a lot less easy to use than was its splendid ancestor - so, it took me quite some time to marry them last night).

Now, to set about exploring what is in there, and how I find it, as the controls are a bit different to what I have ben used to.

Oh my, iTunes. I hate this piece of software.

I dislike using both iTunes and the Music App on new iPhones/iOS. What they nailed in terms of usability with the original iPods and earlier version of iOS, have been lost IMHO. Of all the criticisms I have of Apple these days, I think this one annoys/bothers me the most, just because of the fact that they had it working well and then they went and changed it and made it horrible to use.

Whats the point of face recognition, new filesystems, 3D touch, etc , etc..... if they can't even get what should be a simple music-library-app right? /end rant

In total agreement with you both.

I am glad I am not the only person who thinks this; the older system was so - inexpressibly easy to use, it was a dream, and was probably the main reason (that, and experiences of excellent customer service) that I switched to the Apple ecosystem.

This new system is not just horrible, but it is complicated and unnecessary confusing (and profoundly frustrating).

Yes, @hawkeye_a - this was a system that worked well and easily - as you say, they had it nailed - and then they change it with all sort of unnecessary complications.

Anyway, iPod Touch and I must get to know one another better.

I bought it on an impulse - and a tiny warning voice reminding me that my splendid iPod classic is all of eight years old, and should it die a death while I am abroad (in the sort of abroad where Apple shops do not feature, and neither do most other elements of a civilised society) I would be deeply distressed, or - at the very least - most unhappy.

Then, the iPod died. As I discovered on a cross continental flight this week. Somehow, it is no longer recognised (and is unreadable) to the computer, and its music memory seems to have disappeared.

So, for now, I am getting acquainted with my brand new (surprisingly slim and elegant) iPod Touch.

Advice on (classy, elegant) leather cases most welcome.

And, it is high time to open a bottle of wine, and put on some music.....
