My new iPod Touch (128GB) has been introduced to my computer's iTunes library (not without drama, and......drama. The latest version of iTunes is a lot less intuitive - and a lot less easy to use than was its splendid ancestor - so, it took me quite some time to marry them last night).

Now, to set about exploring what is in there, and how I find it, as the controls are a bit different to what I have ben used to.
Enjoy! You couldn't really go wrong with the old click wheel, but it was a bit dated. Especially when dealing with larger libraries.

Well, I loved the old click wheel iPod - and being dated (I was an historian by profession, after all) is not an issue - remember, I still write with a fountain pen; the issue was the lifespan of the device, and I suspect that it may (finally and with deep regret) have expired.

And, yes, my library is pretty large.

Whats the point of face recognition, new filesystems, 3D touch, etc , etc..... if they can't even get what should be a simple music-library-app right? /end rant

But, you know, I am unkind enough to suspect that the no longer wish to get the "simple music-library-app right", as they wish to coerce/compel/persuade everyone to migrate to the rentier model of music exemplified by the Cloud?

If it's the drive that's failed you could get it replaced with an SSD drive. Not something Apple would do, but I'm sure a friendly IT guy would.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Firstly, there is not much that I can do about it, here, - it'll have to wait a while - and secondly, I am not sure what has failed with the device.

In the past, I've had HDD failures with iPod classics (though this one has lasted eight years without trouble until one or two slight issues over the past two to three months; in truth, it was/is an excellent device).

Totally agreed. This issue is symptomatic of what Apple has become lately, and where it is going. I don't like it one bit.

The Web server (an application that runs the procedure that tunes in for asked for to the Web website) is as of now unfit to deal with the HTTP 503 service unavailable ask for (Although it is just about ready to deal with the approaching solicitation and restore the 503 error blunder).

This over-burdening is ordinarily settled after a timeframe (when assets wind up plainly accessible again) or once another string has been discharged by IIS (or what ever web-server application you are running)

A few servers in this state may likewise just decline the attachment association, in which case an alternate mistake might be produced in light of the fact that the attachment creation coordinated out.Good developers/IT individuals, will make a custom page that is utilized to demonstrate an agreeable message to the client that the site is experiencing support.

Gotan Project - Club Secreto

Oh, hey: I have heard them live.

I love some of their earlier stuff.

What is this CD like? D you recommend it?
[doublepost=1507934463][/doublepost]Madly, inexplicably, I am in the mood for more Baroque music.

This is the only sound I wish to hear tonight.......just now, my (brand new) iPod has thrown up Pachelbel....the immortal Canon....this has quite......unexpected memories for me......

Well, suffice to say, - and I love this piece - I have some serious memories of that.....

It mashes up different styles of music with tango. It seems more clubby than what I previously listened to. At least the first song has an overused beat.

I am not a fan of rap, but I found that song melodically interesting with the tango sound, although maybe you would not enjoy the vocals if Spanish is completely foreign to you.

Well, Spanish vocals are "completely foreign" to me, but I still like some Spanish music, and I love the sound of tango....

Sorry: What do you mean?

I still don't understand.
The quantization of CDs is 16 bits and the sampling rate 44.1kHz.

Studio equipment is usually 24-bit since a very long time.

So the 24/44.1 download would have more dynamic range than a CD (assuming it is not modern crappy mastering).

Liam Gallagher's solo album has sold 16000 vinyl copies in one week in the UK, the biggest such release in 20 years.

I dislike using both iTunes and the Music App on new iPhones/iOS. What they nailed in terms of usability with the original iPods and earlier version of iOS, have been lost IMHO. Of all the criticisms I have of Apple these days, I think this one annoys/bothers me the most, just because of the fact that they had it working well and then they went and changed it and made it horrible to use.

Check out Cesium. It's price fluctuates (gotta love AppShopper.com). With just a bit of customization it's like a natural evolution of iOS 1-6 music app but adding things like queuing, dark mode and you can even set "classical" mode to genres for better handling of that "genre". Well worth it.

I use Marvis more often but out of the box it's not intuitive. The settings are a bit convoluted but there's no more versatile and customizable app for music.

Tonight's listening: Thelonious Monk.

As to iTunes and my iPhone, last week after about 70 hours spread over multiple syncs, three phone calls, two "Genius" appointments that are brilliant as some Twitter accounts, things have sort of stabilized. Still, I'm leaving iTunes behind in the next year. It'll be a lot of work.

An 88 euro TASCAM handheld recorder can store 2 hours of lossless stereo 24/96 on a 4GB microSDHC.

That format would make more sense than cassette, CD and vinyl today.
