Chopin, the complete nocturnes and four ballades, a 2-disc Decca set released in 1997 but recorded over time (1979-85), performed by Vladimir Ashkenazy.

I have several recordings of these works, but this set may be my favorite. Clarity and intimacy, brilliance, no schmalz. Two and a half hours of sonic beauty. Goes well with a dinner party, reading a novel, or just listening. This weekend I’ll be letting it sweep away the old year and bring in the new one! Tonight I'm just listening to the ballades instead of rounding up some jazz picks for my usual Friday night fare. Must be the winter beauty outside inspired this switch-up. We had ice fog for awhile this morning, and later on still so cold that little "diamond-dust" particles were falling out of the sky for half the afternoon. Not quite mist, nor snow. Silvery decoration everywhere... and now the music to match.

Here's one for the New Years Eve crowd. A little something from one of my favourite female singers, Kacey Musgraves.

Currently listening to Steve Perry's For The Love Of Strange Medicine solo album. He's always my go to while working.
