Bruce Springsteen - Human Touch

Listen through old ABBA songs.

What a song treasure they really made.
How synchronized their voices really are.
Especially the not most ‘disco’ famous
Such as ’Eagle’ and ’I have a dream’ etc. etc.

My mother has advanced Alzheimer's but adores ABBA. So, most days, we have ABBA playing (the greatest hits, a CD that runs for 77 blessed minutes - I bought it for her a decade and a half ago when she still had her marbles as she had always loved ABBA, and she loved the CD when still in possession of her faculties) on a sort of loop. It never fails to put a grin on her face.

Heck yea! They proved how pop could be well-crafted and still hugely popular. All 4 actually talented with no need of auto-tune.

Am I allowed to note how attractive I found Agnetha and Frida were as a pre-teen? My crushes along with Nichelle Nichols (Uhura from TOS). :)

Both girls, incredible voices, that are amazing together.
And the guys so musically talented. Especially Benny. I actually met him when I was 9 yrs old.:p
It was before Abba, when he played in Hep Stars. He was a big teddy bear, so kind and warm.

I bet you had a crush on the girls. You were not alone. They were hot, actually still are I think, in a more stylish manner. ;)

;)

Thank you; I must look into this.

She is no longer mobile, but, when we put on ABBA, she tries to keep time with her hands, almost as a conductor would do, a huge grin on her face; it doesn't matter how many hundred times she hears that album (and she will hear it at least half a dozen times a day) - her ecstatic joy & pure delight (and delighted response) when she hears it is as fresh and enthusiastic as though she has just heard something that thrilled and delighted her for the first time.

Indeed, her carers know that if she is stressed - or distressed while they are changing her or moving her - that they should put on ABBA and she will beam, grin, mark time and relax.

Actually, irrespective of my own personal views on ABBA (and I like their music but never loved it), I must say that I am enormously grateful to the group for the sheer uninhibited pleasure and joy and happiness that their music has given my mother. They have made this period of my mother's life much happier, and for that I am profoundly grateful.

One of my brothers jokes that the CD in question will go into my mother's coffin with her and that - when she passes - he never hopes to hear these tunes again - as he will have heard them so often.

I take a different view. Firstly, I point out that this music makes her supremely happy (and it does); secondly, her taste could have included a desire to hear rap or hip-hop endlessly - which would have driven us all demented - but, frankly, ABBA on a permanent loop are a pleasure.

As I say, I feel nothing but boundless gratitude to ABBA. They have made my mother - lost in the shattered fragile fragments of the slimmest gossamer threads of her memory - very happy. And that is something to be thankful for.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but i'm listening to the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack :D. 70s disco throwback (before my time). Interestingly, there's a lot of overlap with the Boogie Nights soundtrack.

Never be embarrassed of listening to great music! Both of those soundtracks are top notch.

Earlier today I friend came over, and brought me a box of CDs, one of which is Heligoland by Massive Attack. It's been a while since I've listened to them, so now I am.
