I just found out late last night that the new Lamb of God album is coming out very soon! I just happened to be browsing YouTube when I decided to search for LoG to see if there was any hint at the next album. Lo and behold there were 3 brand new songs listed.

I'm lovin' 512, Still Echoes is great, and Overlord will have to grow on me a little more.

I preordered the 'Amazon Exclusive Autographed Deluxe Edition' of the album today. Can't wait!

Schubert Impromptus, Op.90, Mitsuko Uchida’s 1996 recording. It's clearing my brain from the hassles of preparing one of my old machines for handoff to a neighbor. Mission accomplished, now I can enjoy the weekend, the Schubert seems like a nice kickoff. Happy Fourth to everyone!

Gorgeous.

While I love classical music in winter - a lot of it seems to fit the season naturally - quite often I forget just how glorious it can be to listen to an ageless piece of perfection in summer.

Listened to Patti Smith's 'Horses' earlier today. The album cover was also note-worthy. It was taken by Robert Mapplethorpe.

I have that album as a CD - a true classic - and Robert Mapplethorpe's cover photograph was (and is) stunning.

Patti Smith herself has given some fascinating interviews about her friendship - and it was a very close friendship - with Robert Mapplethorpe, and recently, I read a fascinating review of a book she published about him, some years after his death.

The photograph is simply stunning. It is rare to see a woman photographed to convey the fact that she is cool, exceptionally competent, and supremely classy, but that photograph, stark and brilliant, carries it off perfectly.

Given the day that it is (the Greek referendum, and all that), it somehow seems apposite to listen to a few pieces of modern Greek music.

The first time that Greek music (actually, in reality, traditional Greek airs rendered accessible to western ears and tastes) became popular in the west was with the success of the 1964 movie, Zorba the Greek, when the Greek composer of the soundtrack, (not least the very famous theme music), Mikis Theodakis, almost became household name.

My personal favourite is not Mikis Theodakis, (although I do like some of his stuff), but the somewhat lesser known (but not in Greece), Manos Hadjidakis (the spelling changes depending on the western European language used as the relevant Greek letters are transliterated in them).

At present, I am listening to the wonderful album 'Giaconda's Smile', by Manos Hadjidakis.

Disturbed - The Vengeful One
from their upcoming new album. I like it, not a whole lot different than their past stuff though. The video is cool - just "The Guy" wreaking havoc. :)

azalea banks' broke with expensive taste album is really nice!

my favourite song so far is luxury (this is the music video version is from her earlier mixtape (fantasea) so the vocals are less refined than on broke with expensive taste):

Well, @SandboxGeneral, a thought struck me while reading your post, where you mentioned listening to - and enjoying - the soundtrack to the movie Blade Runner. (Great movie and brilliant soundtrack).

Given your interest in space travel (real and fictional) and your liking for the soundtrack of Blade Runner, I wonder whether you have seen a very impressive and thought-provoking video which was uploaded on YouTube a few years ago.

Anyway, it is called 'Star Size Comparison HD', and it lasts around two and a half minutes long. To date, it seems to have attracted over 12 million hits, and it uses the music from the soundtrack of Blade Runner for the final minute of the video. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to upload such a video, so I will have to invite you to take a look at it yourself.

No I hadn't seen that before, but just looked it up. Very cool and astonishing. Not only did they use music from Blade Runner at the end, the first song in the video was the theme music to Disney's The Blackhole (1979) which I always liked and found ominous.

Delighted that you enjoyed it. I came across that several years ago, and was quite entranced; I thought it excellent. Must say that I love that sort of thing and could read about - and look at - that kind of material endlessly.
