Hey @VisceralRealist, you should check out Bach's "Missa Brevis" if you haven't already - BWV 233–236. Some parts are repeated from the Mass in B Minor, but many movements are unique. Listened to all four twice now, totally worth it!

I haven't heard it, but I'll check it out. :)

Meanwhile, I've been obsessed with this flute concertino:

The story behind this recording is absolutely mindblowing. The group actually recorded this in studio, invited guests to come in to attend the recording, who are all wearing headphones. However, the drummer who was supposed to record the entire session had an issue with his passport, so the band leader (the bassist) called up renown drummer Larnell Lewis, in a pinch, to help with the session, despite there not being any time to rehearse with the band or anything at all.

Larnell learned the songs and came up with his own drum parts to not only this song, but the entire recorded album, on the plane flight from Toronto to the recording session in Amsterdam. This is one of the most known tracks from that session, Lingus (We Like it Here), by Snarky Puppy.

Oh hell yeah!! One of my all-time favorites! I've got a KingKORG, too--fantastic synth!

In a similar vein, check out this Jason Lindner thing!

That's another one I've got on vinyl. Bought the original press at a record store in Denver last year when I was there visiting family.
Timeless classic, indeed! Wish I had it on vinyl! Instead, I content myself with the CD and my iTunes Library versions. After the mentions of "Kind of Blue" in here last night I promptly fired up iTunes and had another lovely listen.... Great stuff, so evocative.....the epitome of the very soul and heart of jazz, generous gifts of extraordinary musicianship.

Continuing on the Larnell Lewis kick (pun intended!)...

Apparently a couple of years ago, from being one of the most well known drummers in the world, he was invited to Drumeo to answer a challenge: can he record a song - come up with is own drum part for a song - after listening to the song once.

Well, not only did he answer the challenge, but he also recorded it all in one take. The song? Chick's Pain, by Chick Corea. Enjoy.

In a coffee shop.
Yann Tiersen is honestly underrated!
Agreed.
I love his stuff!
As do I.

You crossed my mind while I was listening to Yann Tiersen, as I thought that you might like some of this music.

Actually, I have most of (the vast majority of?) his albums (as CDs, they have been 'ripped' - what a horribly violent vocabulary) to my computer's iTunes, and are also on my iPod Classic, which travels everywhere with me.

Several years ago, I attended a concert - with my (late) mother, we had seen Amalie together, along with a good friend of hers - given by Yann Tiersen.
