And now, next up are a few songs from Duran Duran:

Ordinary World, Come Undone, Thank You, Planet Earth, and Sin Trade.

A piece in yesterday's edition of the Guardian reminded me to disinter, dig out, and listen to, some of the really good songs from Duran Duran.

Got some Bartok now, it's very different to what I've mostly been listening to in classical of recent, but I love it. Frenetic, and at times like both classical music and a score to some scary movie! Actually I think it's pretty awesome. I have heard it before, and it's one of few I've marked five stars so I can remember it.

Finally returned to the "mainstream" and listened to Bach's Mass in B Minor again - after spending a long time focused exclusively on his four other lesser-known masses.

I have two recordings, both by Collegium Vocale conducted by Philippe Herreweghe. Both are really amazing performances. One is arguably a better performance, but the recording is actually kind of awful - it's clipping in some places! The other version is, I don't think as good (I mean, still great overall, but in comparison to the other one), but an actually good-quality recording.

Actually, I gotta tell yall a story about when I first heard "Music for Airports." I was in second grade (7-8 years old) in an acting class. We did an exercise where we lay still on the floor. The teacher used an old-fashioned CD player, and kept cycling through tracks (playing about 30 seconds of each one - there were like 6 or so tracks she cycled through over and over again - different genres and intensities). But "Music for Airports" particularly caught my attention. I remember it was sandwiched in between a (very weird, I remember) Latin tune and a rock song. We were all supposed to stay still and quiet, but I couldn't help speaking up and asking what it was. When I got home, I remember demanding that my parents buy the track on iTunes, which they did.

I'd say that was my first exposure to avant-garde music that I can remember.
 That... hurts!

I've done a couple DD tunes with different bands, Ordinary World and Rio. Great fun when you're the keyboardist.

Been trying to learn this for almost 6 months now. Music looks easy, but it is NOT EASY, trust me. This recording has several mistakes and is MIDI-generated, but the best one I could find that shows the score.
