Okay, I want to know what you guys think of "Mermaid Avenue." It's another record I grew up with, and (probably as a result of that) I love it. Any strong opinions otherwise?

Vinyl?

Wonderful.
Mhm! I try to find as many things on vinyl or old-fashioned CD as possible. Less I have to rely on streaming, the better. My parents had (I guess they still do) quite an extensive iTunes library, but we've always had a lot of physical albums in the house, and a good playback system, too.

I grew up with a lot of different genres of music (and ultimately learned to play in every genre), which perhaps explains why there really isn't a genre I absolutely hate. I mean, there are some things I listen to more than others, but every musical genre and tradition is valid and worth my time. I really believe that.

Very topical choices for today 🙃

If you mean the Billy Bragg-Wilco album, I'm checking it out now. One of my favorite bands is The Clash and Woody Guthrie was a big influence on Joe Strummer.
Sorry I didn’t make it clear!! Yes, that’s it!

I actually haven’t listened to much of The Clash. I should though.

Was fortunate to perform the first few movements of this a few years ago. It was a lot of fun!
That must have been great fun; it is a terrific piece of music.

When I was a student - those were the days when friends (usually male friends, come to think of it) who really liked music - and had esoteric knowledge and taste - curated and prepared and planned tape recordings (this was before CDs, let alone CD-R, and CD-WR) - of music, stuff from their personal collections, or, more usually, their parents' personal collections, and returned from the holidays, - usually over Christmas or summer when they would have headed home for the break - with personally prepared tape recordings - of music that they thought you might like - as gifts. I did the same for them.

Anyway, the first time I had - that is, owned - a recording of Carmina Burana came about courtesy of a university friend, (whose father had an extensive music collection) and who turned up for dinner with a bottle of wine and a tape with Carmina Burana on one side and Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez on the other.

I played it endlessly.
