Hey all! Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.😎

As most of you have seen, my love and taste for music is very eclectic across several genres and decades. I love just about everything except thrash metal and rap. In my 64 years I have developed a taste for a large assortment ranging from rock and roll to pop, to the old crooners, to some of the old country, to jazz and classical. My roots and favorite genres from growing up in the 60's and 70's, are classic rock and pop but there is plenty of modern music in both those genres I’ve discovered over the years that I really enjoy listening to, that rival any of the stuff that has come before it.

Music being my very favorite form of entertainment has shown me that if music is good, it doesn’t matter what era it comes from. If it was good when created 50 to 60 years ago, it’s good today. And, if it’s good today, it would have been good 50 to 60 years ago. The fact is, good music is timeless. I am on the search for new stuff daily that I’ve never heard before, and find that thankfully…good rock and pop is still being created and exists today, although not at the same scale that it was in the classic/formative years(60’s, 70’s, and 80’s). Yes, it is harder to find…but thank the music gods, it still exists.

One of the more modern groups I like from the past couple of decades is The Black Keys. They have a pretty broad range of styles, from blues, to pop, to just good darn rock. They formed in 2001, have a huge following, and have won several grammys and other music awards...for good reason. They have a good dozen studio albums, all of which I like a lot. In fact, I haven't heard anything they've done that I don't like...most of which I really like a lot. They have earned a solid place in my top 10 artists list. Could some of you who also love music like me, please give them a fair listen, and give me your honest review? I would really appreciate it. When they announce their new tour dates for this coming year, I am really hoping they come close enough to Raleigh/Cary, NC (where I live), so my son and I can go see them. I haven't been to a concert in some time, so keeping my fingers crossed.

Thank you for your time and consideration! Looking forward to hearing from you all. I hope the rest of your weekend is safe and pleasant.

All my best,

Rob Bond

I've always thought of the Black Keys as the White Stripes with a better drummer.
;-)

Seriously, now, I like their album Chulahoma because I'm a big fan of a lot of other Fat Possum artists and I dig covers.

I haven't ever seen 'em live though.
Thank you! They do some great blues. You may like

If you'd like to check out some of their other stuff, I have put together a pretty comprehensive playlist.

For decades, I thought Rick Wakeman was a dick. Every interview I'd read in Rolling Stone, Musician, and Keyboard magazines over the decades, he came across as an absolute dick! I know a couple folks who have met him, and their opinion was quite different (and I've always wanted to play Roundabout in a band to try that Hammond solo; it never happened).
Here he plays a solo piano classical interpretation of Bowie's Space Oddity, and it's captivating, wow. Nicely filmed in a beautiful (obviously unheated) cathedral. Enjoy.

Very talented fellow. This reminded me that in 1974 I saw Rick in concert at the Montreal Forum. He was touring behind his 1973 release, The Six Wives of Henry the VIII. I was 15 years old and went alone. I attended many many concerts at the Forum. Those were the days, very reasonably priced tickets and teens could wander alone. The crowds were very friendly, joints were passed down the row, stranger to stranger. No violence, just 20,000 people who loved music. No cultural clashes between the English and French. Just there to enjoy the music.

Interesting band and history. Let's see if they hold it together and do the Oasis tour. On second thought, let's see if Noel and Liam hold it together.
Oasis has a couple tunes I like, but I like most of what Cage the Elephant has done. They've been around since 2006. Seems like Matt has gotten better since he went off his ADHD meds, and he and his brother seem to have a pretty strong relationship.

Some other modern groups I like are, Milky Chance, Sir Sly, Chet Faker, Portugal the Man, Kongos, MGMT, Jack White, Glass Animals, Dope Lemon, The Unlikely Candidates, The Blue Stones, Black Pistol Fire, Gorillaz, Foster the People, The Palms, Royal Blood, and Arctic Monkeys. I'm always on the search for new stuff or old stuff that I've never heard before.

Cool Latin tune! Love the 2-beat bass line during the choruses. Never heard Latin stuff done like that.
