I finally put a network streamer into my home sound system, and after futzing with it for far too long (nearly two weeks) I can kinda control it (I still have five or six questions for the fine folks at Crutchfield tomorrow morning, but I openly admit I'm really slow at this tech stuff).
Anyhoo, after watching the morning news today I decided to leave the TV off, and just listen to different things off the streamer for the rest of the day. I probably made a mistake with loading up the streamer's interface (Cambridge StreamMagic) and two 'net sources (Apple Music, and Tidal) all at the same time, and trying to figure out three interfaces at once.
I'm mostly clueless about Taylor Swift's music; I can sing you the chorus of Shake It Up (prolly from some TV commercial) but otherwise I couldn't name anything. So, the last hour or so I've been listening to a TS channel, and I'm surprised at how "country" it sounds. I know that country music really took on more of a rock/pop feel when rap/hip-hop took over Top-40 radio; I learned "real" country (Patsy Cline/Buck Owens/Cash) growing up with my Dad's radio (I also cut my teeth playing fiddle and pedal steel in bar bands, after playing jazz trombone in Jr/Sr HS and college). So I've been immersed in quite a few tubs.
Taylor Swift is okay, but I have no desire to buy any of her CDs (I admit she's easy on the eyes) (and I ALSO need to get out of this mindset of "buying CDs!"). There are a few bands that excite me that I've discovered thru the 'net (Dirty Loops, Vulfpeck, Jacob Collier) and much older artists that are still killing it (Peter Gabriel, Sade, Steely Dan, Level 42, King Crimson) but I hope this streamer turns me on to other, younger artists that I'm unfamiliar with.
To be continued.
