The Adagio from the ballet Spartacus, by the Armenian (from the Soviet era) composer, the wonderful Aram Khachaturian.

This is the piece that was used as the theme music in the opening and closing credits of the British TV series 'The Onedin Line'.

My son just started kindergarten, and is already getting homework assignments (IMHO, too bloody early for that!). Anyway, some of it is is on writing, and while he knows his alphabet, his 3 year old sister (our daughter) is just now starting to point them out. And that had me remembering a bit of a couple of albums my wife and I completely forgot we had.

I never believed how much your life changes when you become a parent, but when you do, it does, even down to music. Same with those musicians who record it. Case in point, They Might Be Giants and Barenaked Ladies. Both within the past 5 years, recorded children's albums. TMBG released Here Come the ABC's, and Barenaked Ladies released Snacktime!.

My nod for the morning goes to Snacktime, and their alphabet song, Crazy ABCs. One of the things I do like about BNL, is that during their show, they may just go off into banter about something in the middle of the song, and it's just absolutely hilarious; you get a taste of that in their seminal hit, If I Had a Million Dollars. They do the same here, so all I can say is think about yourself as a young child with this, and enjoy! :)

And remember to come back to this song if you are ever playing Scrabble! :D

some spiritual stuff I just discovered...love it! Soul Vibrations - Dorothy Ashby

Thanks for the reminder. 

You are most welcome.

However, just now, I am listening to Aram Khachaturian (again, a wonderful Armenian composer form Soviet times, this is the guy who composed the ballet 'Spartacus') - this time, with the 'Waltz' from his 'Masquerade Suite'. Brilliant. Seriously, just brilliant. Check it out if you classical music with a bit of…..brio...

Aram Khachaturian and Meursault wine…….what more could one ask for, on an early autumnal Saturday night?

Oh yes, I do like classical music, my Grandmother introduced me to it when I was a kid. Just finishing Van Halen, then it is time to watch my Oregon Ducks football with my bottle of Yellow Spot. Sunday will be classical music and wine time.

Yellow Spot? Ah, how wonderful. A splendid whiskey. One I am rather partial to, myself.

Now, do take the time - sometime - to listen to Khachaturian…..lovely, rollicking classical music, the perfect antidote to anyone who suggests that this is a moribund art form…..

Erm, Yes The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus), Goblin's La Via Della Droga Sequence #2, Shizan Das Ist 13 (Instrumental version) and The One, White Zombie's ode to Snake Plissken. I love bass guitar and percussion / keyboards.

Goblin's La Via Della Droga Sequence #2

Was watching Buio Omega the other day (and quite enjoyed it) and only seconds in already knew I'd be in for a great Goblin treat! Amazing soundtrack (once again)!!

For me, no one touches Goblin's Italian film scores, but their score for The Heroin Busters (La Via Della Droga) remains my favorite - largely because the music transports me to the locales in the film. This one (my favorite Goblin track) is 100% China.

Glad you liked the film. It's pretty crazy from what I remember.

Yes, it's quite macabre. The ending could have been slightly worked out more, but good. Soundtrack alone will make me watch it again some day.

I noticed you mentioning Heroine Busters every now and then, and I always end up looking it up on amazon - without much success. Will continue to do so though, Goblin alone are totally worth it. It's a Fulci, right? You know I have a weak spot for him, so eventually I'll find a copy somewhere, sometime...

@twietee , The Heroin Busters is an Enzo Castellari police film about a narc who infiltrates a world-wide heroin ring. David Hemmings and Fabio Testi have great chemistry together. The film is not 100% solid (some slow stuff), but once Enzo lets Fabio strut his stuff it's pure entertainment. The last 30 minutes are ridiculously fun. There was a region 2 release a few years ago...

Here's the track I love along with most of two more tracks in the opening credits (BTW that's director Enzo Castellari getting the 'snot kicked out' of him in Amsterdam. :p)

Stupid expensive region 2 dvd on amazon.uk

@twietee the score is very easy to come by. The film sadly not so much. If you were able to play region 1 or did iTunes you'd have better luck however I did post a link to an expensive region 2 dvd in the post with the clip.

I hope Blue Underground releases it on blu ray but it did not sell very well when it was released (why is anyone's guess since the film is so much fun.)

Anyway, glad you enjoy the score. :)

In a mellow mood today. My friend introduced me to an artist called Nils Frahm. Currently listening to an album called Solo. It's mostly piano compositions and I think he's really talented. I can't get the youtube tags to work but he's on there and on Apple Music.

The other album of his I have is called Wintermusik. A Christmas gift from my friend which was much appreciated.

Peace.
