That's a bit of reading. How long does that take you usually?

Today only took me about 20 minutes to do the reading. I'm trying to read the Bible in a year, but I'm a little behind. So today's reading was actually two days worth of reading. For most books of the Bible the daily reading is 3 chapters, for Psalms it is 5.

Reading "Horizon Storms" by Kevin J. Anderson. This is book 3 of his "Saga of the Seven Suns" series. Really great, character driven SF. I'm really enjoying this series. It's all I can do to not order all the books at once and binge it.

That Super Dove book mentioned this - the author had squab and said it tastes really good. (Baby pigeon). :p I've never had pigeon myself.
Yes, squab. I had a few drinks last night and kept trying to remember what the proper term for it was. I kept coming up with "squall" which means something else. I probably wouldn't eat it now even if it were farm raised. I've had it a few times and when I tried ortolan, which is this small bird, it put me off for life.

Finished the King book. Did a six hour power through read after dinner. If you don't like King, I promise you that you will enjoy this novel. If you like King, you'll love it. Probably one of the most interesting works of fiction I've read in 2018.

Country pigeon tastes rather nice. At least in Europe.
The wild pigeon people eat here is the Wood pigeon. Other pigeons - the feral (the town bird), rock doves, collared doves etc aren't eaten AFAIK. The Wood pigeon is a bit bigger than the others and is shot in large numbers (here in the UK) mainly during the winter months when they become an agricultural pest on fields of oilseed rape etc. Most of the ones shot are exported to the continent by game dealers. I've always found it to have quite a strong (almost liver like) flavour.

No idea, mate. Never had pigeon in the UK though there's a few west London venues that serve it. Had it elsewhere in Europe. Liver tends to be sweet except in chickens. It has a mostly mineral flavor, hinting towards iron. It's definitely an acquired taste. Had it a lot as a kid (not originally American) but never liked it for that flavor. The ortolans were the last straw for me when it came to eating certain birds. The only bird of that size I'll bother eating is quail and quail eggs. I'm alright with duck, but I prefer its crispy chest fat when it's half crisp and half rendered. Lush.

Duck and bacon/pork fat are some of the best fats you can store for their high flash/smoke point. Makes roasting veg and potatoes a treat. That crunchy, crackling exterior and soft, fluffy interior. Heaven.

But, part of the thrill of consuming ortolans is that it was - is - illegal to do so in France.

Little shocked the French public about François Mitterrand more than the revelation that he indulged in eating ortolans in private while President.

Yes, I ate it during the ban but officials didn't seem to care much. It's supposedly different now. I try to try interesting foods at least once in my life just to say I've tried it and not simply be grossed out about it. It was delightful, but from a moral standpoint, I can't eat a small bird that's rather adorable to look at. Did you ever try it?

Though my feelings don't transcend towards other animals. I'll eat foi gras as often as I'd like and won't really care much about duck welfare.

Weirdest food I've ever tried was probably sea cucumber prepared Sechuan style. It's fairly bland but it was alright. I wouldn't eat it again, though. I don't think I'll ever come close to that. And that's me, someone who loved what the French do with lambs brains. Delish.

Can I complain here? I wanted to get 2 Ebooks and... one is $16.99 and the other is $22.28. The print edition for the $16.99 is $7.99 while the print edition for the $22.28 is $23.95.

I have a hard time paying these prices, especially for ebooks. Doesn't help I remember buying ebooks for under $5 left and right years ago. :(.

Was going to support the author of 2 books I got at the library but... jeez.

Just finished "Sailing to Sarantium".

Loved it now every bit as much as I had loved it when I first read it, this is a re-visit.

Now, about to embark upon "Lord of Emperors." (Also by Guy Gavriel Kay - the sequel to Sailing to Sarantium).

My reread of Shibumi (1979) by the author who wrote under the pen name of Trevanian. A compelling story with rich characters in the spy genre, that jumps back and forth from WWII Japan to the then present 1970s. The author, an American through his characters offers some distain for Western cultural values, but imo, it fits in nicely with the narrative, and perspective of the lead character.

My only critique is that the story tension builds to what might be anticipated to be a tremendous climax, but is somewhat of an anti-climax although it is reasonable and works.
The title refers to a Japanese word which descrines a particular aesthetic of simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty.

I am just over half way through this book and I freaking love it! Will let you know once I finish it regarding the ending.

I have seen this a couple of times on Amazon where the physical book is cheaper and by quite a few dollars cheaper. I usually have to wait for them to either go on sale or find other means of obtaining the eBook. I know it is Amazon Prime day today, might want to check back to see if they are discounted.
