No. In fact, you sync your iPad to your desired computer so that all your stuff is transferred to the iPad from your com.

I hope they'll actually let you sync with whatever computer you want because, as far as I know, iPhones can only be synced with one computer (without a hack of course).

the biggest thing that people say about netbooks is typing. I have had dell mini 9 and mini 10 and to be honest I can barely type on it at all. The mini 9 especially is impossible for me.

I am not a giant but I found them unusable and also the track pads were no good. The ability to use the apple keyboard for me is a real bonus as it means that I can use it fully. To be honest I can see that and iwork just working for me and maybe I will drop down to just an imac and the ipad

Here is TN (netbook type) vs IPS (ipad type). Some people simply don't realize how bad TN is until they compare it to something better.

Interesting comparison. And I don't think anyone could or would argue against the merits of IPS.

But here's my question - why would you be viewing things (as depicted) on such an angle anyway? LOL

Kind of already explained. It's less about the original viewer but more for sharing with someone beside you. It also helps a little for stuff that uses the accelerometer. Games and such which have you twisting and moving the device around. Case in point, Labyrinth. Other devices don't have you changing the angle of it while holding it. On the contrary, Iphone, Ipad, Ipod Touch are the main devices in this world that do.

I just saw a video of the ipad--off axis, the screen image is HIDEOUS. Certainly NO BETTER than my netbook's image. In fact, it seems it's vastly inferior

I posted this in response to Daves ridiculous claims that he could tell from videos, that the iPad off axis performance was Hideous and vastly inferior to his netbook. I think this reveals he is just trolling.

The effects actually show up at much shallower angles than those in the picture. It is almost impossible to get a TN sceen to show the same tone top to bottom on a screen even when you are sitting straight in front of it. Here is one of my own pictures of TN screen straight on. Note the background is NOT A GRADIENT.

While I could tolerate this while surfing, it was a severe pain doing image editing because it image tone would shift depending where it was on the screen.

Also while I could tolerate these issues, because you tend it adapt and ignore them in landscape mode. In portrait mode I found TN screens unusable. Consider that for Tablet usage.

in my mind, full blown OS not matter what flavor will always trump mobile versions and even a netbook allows for more growth/upgrade and also more input/output methods. To me a "tablet/Slate" is a niche market at best.

I don't see how anyone could want a netbook over a ipad. you are going to have over 144,000 apps to choose from. Plus you can surf the web. and you can watch movies and tv shows podcast. You can get 3g data plan with no contract people don't know how big that is try finding 3g data plan with out no contract for the price apple is offer for the ipad. Not only that the ipad is so thin and light enough that i can bring it anywhere i want to with out it taking much space up. I know my ipad will have updates to fix any problem and add features to it. You are not going to get that with a cheap netbook with windows on it. And people are saying that a netbook is better then a ipad..

I don't think many or anyone would agrue a full OS is more useful than a mobile OS. However putting an OS designed for modern CPU/GPU combo's such as C2D or Quad core machines onto a device with Atom power CPU at it's core is where it shows it's weakness. Port any game to the iPhone or iPad and it will look better and play better/smoother than it's desktop counter part on a netbook. Netbooks are not powerful enough to run "all" desktop programs, sure you can install it... if that counts as useable? not hardly. Video playback sub par at best, any CPU intensive program will cripple or lock up a netbook. Developers are not making "netbook" optimized programs, so the netbook will continue to suffer from weak hardware spec's.

The right OS for any device is key in making it useable and enjoyable. Netbooks can add all the USB, SD, HDMI slots they want, they still can't overcome the fact they don't have enough power to run most programs well. The HDMI port has always made zero sense, they can't even run HD smooth on their 9" screen let alone have enough power to run it on a large HDTV. Waste of space and money on a netbook until they can actually run HD content well. Just goes to show you how little people understand what the limits of the netbook are. They see "HDMI" and are willing to pay extra for a port that the hardware can't even run. Pure genius on the part of the manufacturers knowing people are clueless and will shop by a "spec list" vs what it's actually capable of.

Baloney! I can run Excel, web browser, word, and tons of other apps just fine on my netbook. And new netbooks just coming out are faster than mine and they will have superior ability to display video. Mine stutters on video, but the new ones have overcome that deficiency.

i was thinking more along the lines of memory card readers, more USB ports (apple only really gives you 1 since they are so close) and other input methods. Not trying to make a netbook a desktop replacement, but for programs, email, browsing, they are in their element.

Did I say netbook couldn't run ANY programs? No, I said it is limited by it's OS because the hardware is not powerful enough to run "many" desktop applications. Exel, web etc.. are not exactly CPU intensive as say a video editing package, photoshop, handbrake etc... Plenty of software will install on a netbook, many of them will not run well enough to make them useable. The newer ones are coming out with better hardware, but unfortunately no one is modifying the OS so the same limitations of trying to run "many" desktop applications will still suffer.

Usability is the difference. Every program that is in the app store will run very well on the iPad. Every program you can buy for Windows 7 will NOT run WELL or at all on a netbook. It has it's limits even with a full OS. That is simply a fact. Not an opinion. The newer netbooks such as the Nokia 3g tablet are higher priced than real laptops with better everything, they are slowly pricing themselves out of their own market trying to make up for their limited usability because of a full OS. Which is the point I was responding to in xIGmanIx's post.

I'm happy you enjoy your netbook, but just as you see the iPad as crippled, I see the netbooks as crippled. We agree to disagree, no need to get upset. :)

Card reader and USB on the iPad while available in the "Camera pack" probably are not built in for the fact that their is currently no file system to move files from the media to the device. If iLife shows up on the iPad then sure an SD card or USB would be nice, but they clearly would rather sell you an add on items that probably makes them a huge profit. Sucks but that's they way they have operated with 3rd party accessories. Personally I'd rather the ISP's got off their A$$ and upgrade us to respectable speeds so we could do everything wirelessly and not be chained to USB ports, wires and cards. If I never had to buy another 1TB drive to backup my files and could just load em up to the "cloud" that didn't take days to do, I'd be very happy.

If your netbook has a spare (and active) mini-PCIe slot you can add the fairly cheap Broadcom HD decoder card which accelerates video playback including Flash. Though the drivers are still a little temperamental. It's the same card that you can use with an AppleTV to do the same thing.

Heck, Handbrake takes forever on my desktop CPU. LOL! It runs ok on my 2 year old laptop however. I wouldn't bother with running Handbrake on my netbook (over a year old). the point is that netbooks are becoming far more powerful as we write these back & forth comments here. I'd still rather have OSX than the iPhone OS on a tablet from Apple. Period.

I don't really worry about the video because I knew when I bought it that wouldn't be a feature I'd be utilizing. I have other devices for video. and now, the Ipad is about to be released, and it too, will be hamstrung. No Flash, no HDMI output, not even true HD output to an external screen. bah humbug.

I'd have to wager that an iPad could be thrown farther than a Netbook

Edit: Without damage...I meant ;)

ah, but a rock (unless it's a really, really WIMPY rock) will suffer, at most, superficial damage. It will still function...
The rock is superficial therefore is greatly unhappy, the iPad/net-book is an electronic device, has multiple layers of damageability but would likely still offer most of it's functions if thrown and damaged, the iPad/net-book is therefore greatly happy. :)

the rock will last well past a millennium. the ipad will be obsolete in less than 18 months.

and your netbook will be dead/useless in 6. ;)

wrong. already have had it more than 15 months. battery is still strong and it works fine. I put win 7 on it a few months back. works great. still has XP on the original partition, but I don't visit XP... :)

You enjoy a millennium of playing with your rock, I'll enjoy my 12 months of iPad or 48 months of iPad if I don't upgrade.

fair enough! Just don't put your ipad up against my rock or it'll suffer a crushing defeat. :)

benefits of a rock:

1. It never needs to be recharged

2. no instructions needed

3. if I scratch my rock, no one will ever notice

4. comes with a lifetime warranty

can we stay on track? Any thoughts of netbook running a full OS vs OS X mobile on the ipad?
