I'd start playing after watching Alien though.

Yeah, but Aliens is awesome (my favorite movie) and I haven't seen it for awhile. I've seen the Alien movies so many times I've got them all pretty well memorized though, lol!

Downloading DS3 right now - want to see what all the fuss is about. ;) Going to play that one completely ofline though as invading would be a roya pita for me. One thing I'm not really digging as far as I understand the form software games (demon, dark and bloodbourne) is that one is always tempted to follow some yt-guide or else because it is that hefty and frustrating while isn't really good at explaining stuff at all. But reserving judgement since I never played one of those.

I followed a guide heavily during my time with Demon's Souls. Since then I've tried to stay away from guides for any game I play because I realized I was ruining the experience by reading everything that was going to happen in the game before hand rather than just playing it. I did consult a guide a few times during Dark Souls mostly for boss strategies after I'd gotten to a boss a few times and didn't even make a dent in their health. So the temptation is definitely there to look at a guide so you're not losing your progress to a boss or new area you haven't figured out yet. I have Dark Souls II waiting for me after Alien Isolation and I'm not going to look at guide at all, no matter how frustrating it gets! Lol!

Indeed. I made the mistake of looking up things for Dark Souls 1, and wish that I hadn't. For DS2 I tried to only look up stuff when I needed to, but ran into forum posts like "I went to X and got the key to Y" which again removed some of the mystery from the game. For Bloodborne I had the same issue when looking for boss tips.

This time around I'm really trying not to look anything up. I'm currently struggling with a boss that's refusing to take a practical amount of damage, but I'm sure I'll figure it out!

It's fun so far. A lot of circling and rolling and circling is involved but nice atmosphere - really digging it. But I have no idea how half the moves are made (dashing / jumping??) while the stats..lots of numbers..and no idea..lol. Took some time til I figured out what souls are and why I have some one time and none the next and how to get them back. It's still somewhat nice that I don't have to read/listen for half an hour to som eintroduction or have to practice in some sort of dojo before starting, adds a lot to the desolate atmosphere. I wish they'd port Bloodbourne to PC since the setting would be even more of my taste.

One thing I'd like to know: how can I use the fire bombs?? I can only switch between two flasks as my items but it's damn impossible to go into the inventory during a fight to select those bombs and use them. Or aren't they meant to be used as weapons? Playing with a controller on PC.

re Alien(s): no idea what you know about A:Isolation, I was just saying that the first movie is the perfect set up to start A:I (atmosphere, setting, game mechanics).

Go into the menu and choose "Equipment". Towards the bottom of the screen you can set which items should be mapped to Down on the D-pad.

Thanks. Will try that.

Btw. is there any possibility to challenge bosses again - after you beat them? I lost about 7000 souls because I didn't know how that actually worked when dying and would like to replay that boss since he gives way more souls than the normal guys (I believe) + it's more fun than to replay the same old settings again and again.

Nope, not until you finish the game and start New Game+. I'm assuming you now know you can go to the spot you last died at to reclaim your lost souls - unless you die again before picking them back up. 7,000 isn't too many.

Yes, I do know that now. :D

It was
at that naked, Don Quichotte kinda looking guy with a katana
, I believe that's still the beginners area and was a bit surprised that he gave me more problems and deaths than the first boss. 7,000 ain't a lot but I just discovered later that I only level up by paying for it (and that 7,000 would mean much for that - a bit strange that the souls required for levelling up, at least at the first levels, aren't really increasing by much).

Great game - I'm thinking about getting that PS4.5 once it's out so I can finally play Bloodbourne. Love the Cthulhu vibe it got and the new hardware should help with loading times - my major pet peeve with games.

We'll you folks convinced me to order DSIII and it will be delivered today. Is there a difficulty setting when starting a new game?

I didn't see one.

I think what comes nearest is the class choice at the start. I took the warrior - but was tempted to go "Deprived" because that would be really cool but didn't want to make it even more challenging.. :D

At least that's a good reason to start a second run at some point I guess. Plenty of classes I would be interested in tbh.

Using a spoiler tag in case you want to figure this out for yourself (it's about classes):

The starting classes are just starting points. There is absolutely no reason why you can't make a warrior and then learn sorcery, or why you can't make a cleric and then give him plate armour and a huge sword. The classes govern starting stats and equipment, but nothing else.

I wouldn't call this a spoiler but essential info for someone starting DS3. Thanks as I'm only just going to be starting and I freaked out when saw all the classes ...

Not a spoiler in the traditional sense, but part of the experience of the game is figuring out all the systems and mechanics. And getting very frustrated when doing so :)

hey @MRU , if you want to know about a good spot to farm items and souls extremely early on in the game, I found it by accident and it helped speed up things quite a bit:

once you enter the high wall of lothric, which comes right after the starting area, you go down the staircase right next to the bonfire. there are a couple of easy enemies, then you go further down into a chamber which has two easy enemies and a locked opening which shows you a plateau which you can't enter, proceed one level further down. once you come out into the open again you gotta kill two enemies and see a lot of enemies ahead but walk up the staircase. I believe once you're on top of that plateau there is a dragon coming, you immediately retreat and go back to the latest bonfire. So from now on, once you restart from the bonfire, the dragon is always already there. If you go down the same route again and watch outta the locked opening from before, the dragon will kill all the enemies on that plateau - while you get all the credit :D. Go down to the great staircase again and kill the guy with a spear only, the dragon will kill all the other dudes too. If you add the area above the room with the locked opening to the run you can get about 1000 souls or so and additional items each run. It only works until you kill the dragon though obviously.

I discovered this yesterday myself and have been farming :)

DS3 BRETHREN...

Which opening character class did any of you choose. I know later you can adjust stats so you can shape any character but initially which did you go for ?

I played opening with all and ended up going pyromancer - it was most bloodborne of classes for me and more my playstyle of that game.

I'm deep into Dark Souls 3 and I'm at a part where the enemies are brutal and I just love it. I'm going with a strength build with a touch of pyro.

I choose an assassin as my opening character.

Bless

Isn't the whole part where the enemies are brutal. I'm 5 hours in and still at high walls of Lothric !!!!!!

Just bought The Order 1886 during the PSN flash sale for $8

I've heard it's short but I have been looking forward to it and getting a good price as I am 100% digital and got a great price.

Yes but when you get to the Valley of Bor(something) the enemies get extremely insane. I'm still trying to figure out what weapon I want to invest in, right now I'm using the knights great sword and the demon axe.

Bless

First From game for me so obviously have to heavily adjust, I'm basically playing with L1+R1 only, lol. No fancy items (I'm a hoarder) but a lot of hit n run longbow'ing is involved. :D Once I start parry'ing there will be no stopping me! Right now in the Undead Village and am loving it!
(which I find way easier than the area before until now, *shrugs* also the second boss was way easier than the first but maybe that was just me getting more comfy with the controls..)
Reminds me upon the RE4 zombi village at the beginning.

Not sure how to invest my gems the best way though. Put some into a long sword which is ok I guess. The Katana or Astoria sword are tempting.

I started with Knight intending to go Str/Dex quality build and to start with 100% physical block shield, good armor, and longsword. I've since found a weapon that get's really good damage when made 'raw', and doesn't require scaling stats to get good damage. So I'm thinking of switching to Int/Faith build so I can use more spells since I don't need to scale Str/Dex anymore.

Playing Str/Dex vs Int/Faith for my first play through boils down to deciding if I want to play around with more weapon choices or more spell choices. Decisions, decisions...

Bloodborne: I am now only one trophy shy of platinum! Last one is the Queen of Yarnham, which means doing all the chalice dungeons. I finished the first three, and the first layer of Ailing Loran.

Trackmania Turbo: Still working my way through the single player "campaign", about 75 tracks in. It's already getting pretty hard, I try to get silver on every track. Some of the tracks are crazy - this will be insane with VR!
