I've got it, afraid to play it. o_O On Epic is that to get it free or play free for a period of time?
You should play, especially if a fan of the original Alien. The game really captures the aesthetic & atmosphere of the film, so far it's not terrifying by any means, however the game really know how and when to ratchet up the tension 😎

When you see the Xenomorph for the first time in game it's simply magnificent with the AI really presenting a feeling of being hunted by a relentless foe.

I played one of the early Aliens vs Predator games and one of the chapters I was exploring a dark colony setting very similar LV-426. I remember the first one, it came fast and on the ceiling and I barely shot it in time. Even with a pulse rifle I was so tense I got a stiff shoulder and that damn motion tracker is etched in my brain. :)

Undoubtedly Alien Isolation is the best of any of the games in the Alien universe. Very much in the theme & atmosphere of the original 1979 film, covering similar events in a new and creative ways. Being more about thinking than shooting, most of all same as the films vision simply surviving.

Anyone who is a fan of the first film should play Alien Isolation as your missing out on a great experience regardless of platform.

I have fallen down a deep dark Satisfactory (via Bootcamp) hole. I think since I got it maybe a week or two ago I have put 60 hours in, and still only just hit Tier 7 milestones. I had flings with other factory sims like Factorio, but this one just clicked with me in a special kind of way. I don't think I loved the tower defense aspects of Factorio or having limited resources, I just want to build neat stuff. Satisfactory has just enough combat to give you some risk to exploration without feeling like my base is at risk.

Same, and I need to stop :) it has drawn me in. I build an Iron factory then I think, hmm, if I added another floor, routed it all a different way, added another constructor and... Then I do that, but if I had just overclocked the miner and added two more floors I would get extra x plates and x screws, but if I split it between that Pure node and that normal node and...

Yup, I snagged that one, too! 😊
Just finished, what a rush 😎 Incredibly cinematic, yet remain to be very strongly game focused, absolutely nails the atmosphere of the first film. Alien Isolation is a must play for anyone who is a fan of Alien...

Recent review from 2020 some tips, without deep spoiler's.

Still stands today, although I thought the ending was fitting with the flavour of the game.

First playthrough for me was on medium next will be hard as feel that's how Isolation was intended to be played. Medium I never felt I was short on resources barring flame thrower fuel Working Joe's (androids) I felt there was two distinct levels of difficulty with them. The Xenomorph, if you don't know watch Alien (1979) 😆 Sometimes it pays to be brave and move in close, however be warned the Alien is absolutely deadly with literally killer AI and more I can assure.

Alien Isolation is also a long game 20 hours to beat the main story, those seeking completion more like 40 hours. First run I'd guess at around 30 hours with around 60% completion of picking all the bits & pieces and obviously completion of the story. Again I didn't find the game really frightening like Outlast, however it just like the original film build tremendous tension at times. Thankfully the game allows the player some release as the story progresses. It's a roller coaster as the game so successfully puts the player in Amanda Ripley's shoes with a deep sense of emersion.

  • Alien Isolation- Played briefly then backed away in terror. 😛 I’m a huge Alien fan, but can admit that a good number of the Alien films suck.
  • Cyberpunk 2077- Finished second play through, katana-pistol whirlwind, thumbs up.
  • Fallout 4- Yes, I am pathetic. :)
  • Star Wars Fallen Jedi- I’m liking this, atmospheric. Some of the physical stunts your character does is over the top, but so what, you have the Force assisting you. :).
  • World of Warships- Still playing casually, 10+ torpedoes in a single salvo coming from an unseen destroyer still makes me curse and rage quit if they get me, at least for the evening. ;) This is a good example of where game balancing makes a game more unrealistic than it already is. Destroyer are not equal to battleships as much as Wargaming and apparently players want them to be.

After Alien Isolation something a little less tense, especially at the harder difficulties where the xenomorph is utterly and completely hostile to all life, you will be challenged...

Death Stranding:

Officially Impressed...

Easy two hours for the intro, AAA graphics, superbly optimised, no hand holding got to learn for yourself. Very much a Hideo Kojima game. If you don't get Kojima or his game direction don't play Death Stranding, immediately powerful & emotive, very much the experience as I'd hoped for.

Have played through the first 3-4 hours or so of gameplay to grasp all the mechanics then plan go at it in detail. Be while mind as this is clearly a big game with a big story to tell and a fair level of complexity to master. Initially a slow burn and a heavyweight as the game throws so much information at the player to control and act out their part in this surreal world.

That said your drawn so deeply into the game world, despite many bizarre and unconventional concepts. Death Stranding is certainly unique and most definitely not a Walking Simulator as some imply. Death Stranding is very much theatrical with the player in the lead role. Aspects of the game are initially absurd, yet as the game progresses one simply forgets as they are so perfectly interwoven into the fabric of the game world they make sense. This a game make's you think on multiple levels both in and outside the game world...

Right now Death Stranding on Epic is a tremendous bargain as not only is the game on sale you can also apply an Epic coupon resulting in something like 85% discount :)

I’m going a bit retro with my current games, but I’m not enjoying them any less.

Over the past month or so, I’ve been falling down a rabbit hole of source ports and mods for Doom and Quake. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how well these games perform on OS X Mojave. As far as Doom goes, I’m having fun with Doomsday, which has a very responsive developer who really gets the Mac side of things (app switching shortcuts, and so on), and even has an M1 Mac to develop on.

As far as Quake is concerned, I found an OS X patch for it on Fruits of Dojo, and have been having a blast with Lord Havoc’s Dark Places, which is just a joy to behold, and even with all the eye candy turned on, gets about 60 fps.
The only downside is that I’ve only been able to locate the shareware version of Quake, as at some point, I mislaid my original retail copy!
Has anyone seen the full version of the Macsoft port? Or, barring that, I wonder if the Windows version sold on GoG, might work? After all, the pak files should be the same, right?

This is a great game that I've played on PC. I originally bought it just to see if RTX graphics were all they were cracked up to be (only kinda sorta), but ended up getting hooked on the gameplay. Kind of a cross between a Jedi Knight game and the X-Files. I loved and finished the main game, but am finding the DLC kind of dull.

I've also been experimenting with getting various PC games to run under emulation on my M1 MBA. Control runs at low settings, but as soon as you get in a pitched battle Parallels crashes. I've had much better luck with the original Skyrim, even getting an ENB and SKSE running with mods...

  • Horizon Zero Dawn- Liking this game! Open world RPG, Fighting, Adventure in a future world ruled by robotic creatures, and humans have regressed to the Stone Age. :)

  • Fallout 4- Having what I think are issues with mods or it could be a Geforce update partially broke game. Crash to desktop with fast travel.
  • Alien Isolation- Played briefly then backed away in terror. 😛 I’m a huge Alien fan, but can admit that a good number of the Alien films suck. Last comment beside the point, game made me sweat a bit too much because I’m an immersive kind of guy. ;)
  • Cyberpunk 2077- Finished second play through, katana-pistol whirlwind, thumbs up.
  • Star Wars Fallen Jedi- Good Starwars atmosphere, athletics are over the top imo, and got a sore wrist while fighting. I contribute this partially to coming from console land.

This weekend I’m learning how to play using a keyboard and mouse. I’m doing it with an easy game, Stardew Valley, but whoa I feel so uncoordinated and rather … slow. I’ve only used controller and touch controls before.
