I disagree, its packed full of people, and while the dialog choices open to us, is limited, I see that more of a limitation of the state of technology, time and money. I don't know any game where you can go up to any NPC and start full dialogs

It is a RPG game that has a story to tell, a beginning middle point and ending, so yeah, you do need to follow a course. Its not an open world that you can do anything and there's no real plot - this isn't No Man's Sky

Yes, its not perfect, and enemy AI is an issue even the developer acknowledged.

You can rush through the game in 1/2 that time and you can do all sorts of side gigs/missions and probably double that time.

I think you wanted or envisioned the game to be X but instead got Y. CDPR never promoted it as X but said you could do X, Y and Z.

To sum it up, its just a game, if you don't enjoy it, find something else. I've put way too much brain power into something that [for me] is a diversion and hobby.
I’m not as hard core as @Queen6, but the other day I was walking down the street talking to every citizen I passed on the street and no one had a word to say other than a “get lost.”

Observer System Redux
1610046390253.png

An FPP horror, set in a dystopian Cyberpunk world. Horror to me isn't the best descriptive, there are aspects where the tension does significantly ramp up at times. Game does excel at setting up a dark atmosphere and no doubt the late Rutger Hauer helps in this respect with his superb stoic performance as the lead protagonist.

I've completed the previous less graphically intense >Observer so will be interesting to see the difference and the additional 20% gameplay. Observer is basically a detective story, that requires the use of cybernetic implant's to assist the investigation up to and including scanning the mind of others.

Personally I like the game, it's slow paced yet intense, story driven, few action/horror sequences here and there with twists and turns. Just be aware Observer employs a lot of vivid graphics as part of the stories exposition which is best described as a disturbing digital nightmare...

FarCry3

It's a year old, but was on sale over the holidays, so I recently started FarCry3. What a great game! :) I have loved the open landscapes since the time I first saw it in a game, could it have been the original? See that mountain, climb that mountain, no screen loads required. I play on easy, because I don't think games like this are realistic, being able to take multiple shots and injecting stimulants to heal and keep going, but it's still fun and I like sneak'n through the grass and basically cruising through a game like this without sweating too much. Even on easy I've died a couple of times when I've gotten too complacent and one time attacked by a croc while swimming across a river.

The character animation is good and I love some of them such as the mohawked bad guy and the trip'n Dr Earnhardt are just too good. Definitely for adults, R rated violence, lots of F bombs, violence, and reported nudity, although I have yet to discover that yet.

A little irritated I've got to go find some bird to kill to craft a bigger wallet. I'm leaving lots of lot behind until I can find one.

This trailer does a good job of selling the game: IGN Trailer.

This FarCry3 Wiki may be of help.
How do you play games like this - are you playing on macOS or windows?

I recently tried playing Path of Exile on macOS but it’s just too stuttery at times And it seems random idk. So now I guess I will play stardew valley or Warcraft 3 though . :)

When I played it, it was on my PC. When I was playing games on a 2012 MBP with a dedicated graphic card, it was using Bootcamp and Windows 7. As I recall, I could reliably play PC games using Bootcamp.

I am playing Path of Exile now! did a few "workarounds//settings adjustments" Open in Low Resolution mode and then set in the options "Predictive network mode" instead of "auto" or "lockstep"

seems to work really well now!

I need to spend more time with Minecraft. I have an extreme height map with a giant tree, rooms and houses imbedded in that I work on occasionally. :)
Wait for the summer, minecraft is getting higher mountaind and deeper caves :)

Likely wont play next, just wanted to get installed and running as I want it. FYI there are also official HD texture, audio & voice packs available, you'll need to search on both GOG and Steam to find as they are somewhat buried.

Depth of KCD is apparent from the onset with just a quick look. Lot of good work done by Warhorse to get thing's right, albeit after multiple patches. Runs great, capped the FPS at 72 max settings, the HD texture's do add a little to the visuals which are already decent. The historical accuracy is also of interest and spun off watching several documentaries from the local & period.

After finishing Cyberpunk 2077 still have an itch for a crime game, so dusted off Mafia 3

Good game, better if you can get on a discount, I picked up Mafia 3 with all DLC's (recommended) on GOG last year for $8 top value. Main can get repetitive, depending on your liking (as can many open world games). The DLC's bring new aspects to the game. Runs great now, I locked the FPS off at 60, can easily push way past that nor seen any glitches.

Mafia 3 might just be the next to play once The Talos Principle is done :)

I am having a marvelous COVID-19 winter alternating between Resident Evil remake titles and Tomb Raider remake titles.

Sometimes I throw in a session of a Half-Life title (mostly Black Mesa or Half-Life: Alyx) or my beloved Control.

I've also spend a solid chunk of time learning how to mod some of these games as I'm a newcomer/latecomer to PC gaming. Most of these mods are pure silliness.

Playing Runescape. Trying to regain my completionist status since the new skill came out last year.

Also been playing Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links on Steam - and on my mobile during work lunch breaks.
Sometimes I'll play Stardew Valley or Divinity original sin 2 with my friends when they're on.

sucks to know that basically anyone with a non-M1 chip macbook is going to be screwed for any game that comes out from here on out.

The game I have fired up the most frequently this past week is Skyrim.

As a newcomer to videogaming, I have never played it and I really haven't been playing it even though I'm starting it up frequently.

I'm using it to learn how to mod games. It has been very interesting and I chose Skyrim because of its reputation has a game that has a LOT of available mods.

Some of these mods are very, very impressive.

Once I have a better understanding of how to best implement mods, I will likely circle back to my favorite game franchise: Half-Life and play with some of the mods available for HL1, HL2 and eventually HL:Alyx.

Skyrim is definitely a game you can sink hundreds of hours into - especially with mods. If you like Skyrim - I'd also suggest Fallout New Vegas. Should keep an eye out for games with Steam workshop on steam - or on NexusMods for other games you can mod.

It looks like Skyrim is one of the most modded PC games and I have barely started to delve into this.

Like you said, Fallout New Vegas is another. Fallout 4 (which I also own) also seems to have a lot of mods. I do visit NexusMods a lot.

I also have the VR versions of both Skyrim and Fallout 4 but haven't dabbled with modding those. I may end up playing with the mods on the regular PC versions first then implementing those mods on the VR versions and just playing the modded games in VR.

There's Alien Isolation that also runs in VR. I haven't looked hard to see if that game has been heavily modded. Although the VR mode is a bit wonky it's a great game to play in VR, looking over your shoulder for the Xenomorph.

Generally speaking, it looks like single-player RPGs that are 5-7+ years old are more likely to have great mods than other titles.

I just discovered the work-in-progress Skyblivion mod as reported here:

I'll look into that at some point when it is more fully developed. I will also look at the now-finished Enderal mod too.

If you are playing Fallout 4 and are interested, I can provide my mod list for it. Currently on my third play through, but have avoided VR. :)

  • Cyberpunk2077- While recognizing its shortcomings, enthusiastically playing it.
  • World of Warships- Hanging in there, more worthy than World of Tanks IMO. Random Teams can be frustrating, but strategically a better game than WOT.
  • World of Tanks- I’m starting to distance myself, the issues are just how horrible Random Matches can be, I’m just not that good at it, it’s a freaking pay to win, money grab with power creap game as new premium tanks become more powerful, more so than tech tree tanks, and constant pressure to buy them. The most alarming thing is I’m normally stingy with money I spend on games, but think nothing of dropping $40 on tank. This is how insidious it is. I remember the good ole, Planet-side game with 2 player tanks, where I used to have a ball. Here I find myself cursing more times than not. Don’t ask why I’m still playing. 😐
  • Fallout 4- On my third play though which I started June2020. This game is like my home away from home. :)

STALKER Call of Pripyat
1615522862154.png

Getting on a bit, however once into the game the graphic's fade away in favour of a good storyline, tremendous atmosphere and engaging gameplay. I played the stock game no mods, had no issues at all. Like all the STALKER games there's fair replay value with Call of Pripyat being the most stable and better graphics.

How does this compare to Metro Exudus, asked by the person who bought ME but has yet to play it? 👀

  • Valheim (Steam)- New game, a less grindy survival, base building game with some innovative building mechanics. A mix of crude character, but beautiful environmental graphics. How can that be? It is. (Thread link).

  • Cyberpunk2077- completed first play through. While recognizing its shortcomings, enthusiastically playing it. Preparing for second go, this time as a male character.
  • World of Warships- Hanging in there, more worthy than World of Tanks IMO. Random Teams can be frustrating, but strategically a better game than WOT.
  • World of Tanks- That’s it, the most expensive game I’ve ever played, UNINSTALLED! 😐
  • Fallout 4- On my third play though which I started June2020, paused for CP77. This game is like my home away from home.
  • I forgot to mention I discovered Mario Karts on iOS, but I don’t see myself paying $5 a month for a premium subscription. More to come. :)
