My Quad has 16GB and at some point I decided that rather than having it sit there unused all the time I wanted to put it to work. I came up with a way to create an 8GB ram disk by creating four 2GB ram disks and then RAIDing them. It was useful to have my browser and cache in a ram disk as well as having Photoshop use it as a scratch disk.

My G5s also have 16 GB of RAM and I would have use cases for a RAM disk of that size. I’m curious - do you have a particular script for creating RAM disks and merging them or do you do that manually? If you do have a script, do you mind sharing it?

Well, apparently I used 5 ram disks of 2GB each.

Anyway: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/favorite-software-setup.2308073/?post=30192445#post-30192445

Just follow the directions. The script in there will automate the RAIDing, but I never figured out a way to automate the creation of the RAM disks. There is probably a way to do that but I didn't search very hard because I don't often reboot - which would make me want to figure it out.

Got it to work without the CD (which is great, coz cd drive drains the battery).

Created a master dvd/cd disk image, which just needs mounting, then run the game......😁

For any "that's piracy" people, I have legit copy.

Booklet (instruction manual).....is about 200 pages thick....😆

Have been pondering maybe getting the iPadOS version instead, to avoid too much stress on the 'ancient' G4 laptop.
At least I can use the 'extensive' manual for reference.

On topic, I installed a bunch of games on my PowerBook G4 and iBook G3 I'll probably will not have the time playing. But it's nice to know they are installed and run anyway.

Now you got me worried because of the stress on the ancient G4. On one hand I don't want my 867 mhz PowerBook to die right after my 1,67 ghz PowerBook. On the other hand, the later Book went black while installing an update. What a boring end to a great machine. At least let the other one die in a blaze of glory while shooting some scum. 😄

Please excuse two silly questions, but I guess it's not possible to install a 1gb ram stick from an early 2005 15" 1,67 ghz PowerBook in a first revision 867 ghz 12" PowerBook? And I guess the 80gb hd from the 15" Book will not fit in a Clamshell iBook G3?

Should™ work as both use DDR1 RAM. The 15" uses PC2700 while the 12" uses PC2100 but RAM sticks usually downclock just fine.

It will. Both use 2.5” IDE/PATA drives.

Been playing with my small self hosted website. Currently, it displays well on Classilla and up to modern browsers, but not on older browsers running on System 7.
So I'm trying to make a new version that would display at least fine in iCab 2.9 on System 7, on Classilla On OS 8 - 9, and modern browsers. I'll limit myself to iCab 2.9 on System 7, cause Explorer 4 or 5 messes everything no matter what I try...
here how it looks in iCab 2.9 on both System 7.5.3 and OS 9.2.2 :

Replaced a Netgear GA311 REV.A1 Gigabit NIC card in my G3 server. After some initial confusion (I think the card was not seated correctly the first go round) the server is back up and running with both NICs.

I love these Netgear cards. They're cheap, plug and play and just work!

LOL. Trying to help someone out which proved to be an interesting challenge. So, there's a need to get Pagemaker 7 files open and saved out as either Postscript files or PDFs. I have InDesign CS4 and CS6 which will open PM files, but neither app sees these as actual PM documents.

That meant an OS9 Mac or a Mac capable of running Classic. There are several ways I could do this (I have an iMac G3), but the easiest was to get Classic on the second drive of my G3 server. I don't need to install it, I just want to copy over a System folder. Finding THAT was hard enough, but found one and Classic is now working on the G3.

Yes, yes. I hate OS9/Classic - but this was to try and help someone and involved graphic programs. Well, purported to be graphic programs anyway.

Got PM 7 installed, didn't recognize the files. Got PM 6.5 installed, didn't recognized the files. I suspect that the resource forks are blown. I was going to try PM5, but that's a bunch of floppy disk images.

Anyway, it was fun getting all this stuff installed and working.

My Mac Pro won't open the DMG. Which means it's got to be opened on the G3. Opening it on the G3 means either installing it or monkeying around with uncompressing stuff - which the G3 kept erroring on.

I found something else on Macintosh Garden. Of course, when I go to refind the link on the garden, it's not coming up. But it was a simple backup of an OS9/Classic install and it worked.
