I'm getting closer. Grub doesn't seem to like being copied over to a partition on the hard drive, but that's my only option at the moment...

I have managed to demonstrate successfully how Civilization III, a game I know literally nothing about, will run on an iBook G3/466 clamshell whose display has been swapped out with an XGA LCD (as the game will not run on displays with resolutions lower than 1024x768).

Apparently, I have just helped to write history by becoming, purportedly, the first person on the planet to run this game on a clamshell iBook G3. 🤔

Geez mcL - that's quite a major update!!

I'm using a PowerBook G4 1.67 DLSD 15".

Installation went fine... almost there now but...then comes the usual radeon-problem that i sometimes have solved in various distributions "...starts to boot up, but then the system shows only a black screen"

I have tried these without success:

Code:
"Linux video=TV-1:d video=offb:off"
"Linux nouveau.modeset=1 video=TV-1:d video=offb:off"
"Linux nouveau.modeset=1 video=TV-1:d video=offb:off video=nouveaufb:off"
"Linux nouveau.modeset=1 video=offb:off video=nouveaufb:off"
"Linux nouveau.modeset=0 video=nouveaufb:1024x768-24"
"Linux nouveau.modeset=0 video=nouveaufb:1024x768-16"

Anybody that knows some other alternatives that may work?

Dash it..I'm thinking of trying it on my G4 iBook.
Under the 'Donate' heading it states added support for G4 systems..wonder if they're unaware there's an issue???

I don't think the author has this system to test. I hope @wicknix will have a go installing. He always has the solution for these things!

NO, i refuse to get one of them, LOL!
For me it probably means that i'll have to put my mac back into the storage, and sit and wait another year for Adelie Linux to be ready

I probably wouldn’t mind getting ahold of an early iMac G5 because of how easy it is to work on.

..actually I did have one of those..gave it to a woman who fell in love with the 'retro' look of it...to play DVDs.
Looking thru the list of improvements for Fienix 6 ..I was thinking 'oh gee..wot have I done.'..especially when I saw duke nuken mentioned.

It'll run on a G4. I installed Fienix on my 17" powerbook not that long ago. It has issues with graphics, but can be worked around. I just don't remember everything i did. Anyway, here's what i remember.....

Boot in to single user mode: Linux single
This will bring you to the text based log in.
Log in and su or sudo to root user.
Get a network connection (ethernet required and may require manually starting dhcp or the like)
NOTE: all root commands will need to be done by typing the whole path in single user mode (e.g. /sbin/reboot)
Run sudo apt update
Install some other DE or WM (xfce4 or icewm are good choices) and also install another session manager as the default session manager (try maybe lightdm, xdm, etc) and Mate are causing the graphics issue.
Once those are installed reboot and graphical login should work. Don't use Mate. Choose your new DE or WM.

There may be more to it than that, but that's what i remember when i installed it. It should get you going in the right direction at least.

Cheers
