I “fixed” a free to me 17” adc M2454 with a broken tripod by first removing and then pumping epoxy into the hinge and reattaching the broken bit to it. I let that cure for 48hrs. That right there was very sturdy and rock hard -probably would work on its own. Anyhow I then reattached that to the chassis, returned the acrylic shroud to the back of the lcd and using more epoxy, I then glued the surrounding plastic bit back to the hinge with more amounts of clear epoxy and returning the screws before allowing it to cure as one piece.

Truthfully, I am unsure if this will hold but I’ve seen epoxy used to bond load bearing metals so once cured I think it should be able to hold the weight of the lcd readily.

Pros so far: it was cheap ($1.00), extremely easy so far (albeit epoxy is stinky stuff) & hoping it to be a lasting repair to a common problem.

Cons: this has made the tripod un removable in that the tripodplastic exterior shroud is now one piece. This makes future repairs to the unit if needed not possible with out destroying the leg & asthetic external plastic bits. Still, at that point if it were to die, the thing would be salvaged for parts as I have many of these era lcds.

Regardless, if you don’t feel like paying too much for a hinge, this is fast, cheap & easy.

Yeah this works like a champ. Seeing how this stands up, I think I would try it again just by re adhering the hinge itself keeping the cinema displays acrylic bits separate and its ability to be disassembled easily intact.

I did refresh my memory by pulling up an m2425 (mightve been a 23"er now that i think about it) ifixit tutorial on this a1047 btw.

I'm trying today to get my 2000 Powermac running again, I'm not sure what's wrong with it exactly, it just stopped booting outright. Need to find my multimeter or something to test the PSU, if that's failed hopefully they're cheap. If not, I may already be in over my head for the time being...

ROFL :D. It's not so hard to put system into autoupgrade & to do other things with other machine :). Still, it's quite long to buikd some packages. For example, kernel build time is around 1,5-2 hours.
I agree that Gentoo isn't that hard because the handbook it's one of the most complete (besides Arch). You in the end would have a very very high performance and customizable system at the cost of your time, patience and sanity. I did it twice and came to the same conclusion, maybe if I recover in 2021 some of my sanity lost in this year I try that again on some Mac.

It's a pity, but it seems that amdgpu module is broken in 5.9 kernels, at least I have not succeeded to built kernel, when it's enabled. what immediately makes my secondary PC Radeon R6 360 unworkable :).

Today I'm officially retiring my 20" Cinema Display after many years of daily use, due to my recent purchase of an LG Ultrafine 4K monitor.

It is probably one of the best monitors ever, historically speaking. A fantastic screen, very well built, classic design, very bright (thanks to the slight brightness update in 2006 models) and durable (has survived many house moves). I'll keep it around as a reference monitor and for any secondary office setups, but won't be in my daily usage rotation anymore.

Here are a few pictures showing what the monitor setup looks like, attached to my 2007 MacBook Pro, before the setup changes completely...

Watching some David Letterman on Netflix. No issues running whatsoever on the '07 MBP, and low fan noise. Only stutters slightly when you bring up the menu. The screen still looks very good, all of these years later.

Really great device. Mine (which was sold to me with G5 Quad) have low brightness & colors are a bit yellowish (dont know, can I fix this problems myself).Thinking about buying another one from second-hand market. BTW, USB & FW ports are in use - Kbd (A1048) & mouse (Logitech G500) + external single-port FW DVD recorder (bus powered).

I thankfully haven't noticed too much yellowing on mine. My 2007 MacBook Pro and 20" iMac, on the other hand...

Even though PowerPC Macs are useless and you can't use them in 2020 (heh), some of us do anyway, so I figured we should have a thread to post anything we've done with a PPC computer today. Inspired by the various PowerPC Challenge threads, but more for those of us who use them continuously year round, even if not always exclusively.

I do Safari Benchmark testing every day in web page rendering speed. Seeing the elements nearly "dropping in" one
after the other on paypal.com on my PowerPC2intel machine ... 🤣 ... any tests on M1 yet?

I was doing some text processing on my iMac G4 and it was offline because I rarely have any reason to connect it to the internet.

Then, I got one of those scam phone calls from "tech support" and a foreign woman "from tech support" wanted tell me that "my Windows is infeceted." Aww hun, I haven't had one of those since Windows 98!
