@Dronecatcher For vanilla foxPEP, yes. Some of it is irrelevant to TenFourFox and Firefox 45, as it was not intended for those platforms.

... Which is why there is TenFourFoxPEP, where all irrelevant components have already been stripped out and the rest curated, verified, and properly aligned for the current TenFourFox codebase, saving the browser the extra work of doing that itself on first launch.

Everything in it works, and was included only where necessary.

Hence, "optimized to the hilt".

I was referring to the earlier iteration made for TFF - with all the graphic acceleration tweaks you made claims for - they are what Cameron confirmed were illusory.

If they are now gone then the prefs file is basically what the rest of us have been using for years - and that's how it appears in use.

Obviously for those who have never tampered with the TFF prefs file like @micahgartman it's a nice boost.

@Dronecatcher Respectfully, I believe we will need to agree to disagree on this one.

Asynchronous scrolling, layer and tile sizing, and frame rate specification as small examples are not illusory, nor do I remember him ever confirming them as such. Granted, TenFourFox is such a naturally thread-hungry browser though that it can appear that way at first on relatively weaker machines.

But please, by all means, employ whatever methods best suit your flow.

I spent the Thanksgiving weekend giving Apollo an overhaul. She's my FreeHand machine.

She got a new LCD and a new SuperDrive.

I've always been a WebKit guy, but I caved in and installed TFF and PEP. You guys have done some amazing work—mad kudos to @z970mp and the gang!!!

From where did you source that beautiful stand? I've been looking for something exactly like that! All I've found so far are types with the front supports on either side, which of course blocks the PB/MBP's optical drive.

@Amethyst1 is correct—it's the mStand from Rain Design.

I highly recommend it. As Ferris Bueller said:

It's so choice ;)

These two portrait screens are just great.
Yeah, I decided to set it up that way. I've never done a portrait setup before, but this particular setup is meant to solely be for writing. My writing tools are predominantly InDesign and Word. It's been a bit of an adjustment because things aren't exactly as I had it in my head (as far as how things would display on the monitors) but overall I like it.

I bought a dual display mount, so the 'desk' the monitors hover over, all that space underneath isn't usable to me anymore like it used to be. I had to move things around (again), but it works for the most part.

Unfortunately, my eyes at 50 are not like they used to be during my 20s when I was writing out by hand all my gaming stuff. All the mice type I use to write is hard to read now and that's translated to stuff on the screen needing to be closer.

I could really use a portrait monitor as well but my current 23.8" one is too tall once rotated so I have to tilt my head upwards a lot, causing neck strain. (I've tried it.)

I wanted to do this with my Mac Pro, but the displays would run into the bottom of the TV, or have the displays in my lap, or I'd be forced to set them wide apart which defeats the purpose. So, that'll have to wait until this setup changes.

Neck strain was another reason I had to get a mount. There was no way to get what I wanted without literally hanging the displays in thin air.

One of these days, when the kids have left the house, I'll have a space and a setup where all these little compromises will no longer have to be made.

Last week I found three Netgear Gigabit switches (same model as the two I already have) for $14. Didn't come with power supplies, but that's okay. I thought the PS from the current Netfear Fast Ethernet switch I had would work. Nope, it didn't.

Fortunately, I don't throw power supplies away, even if the equipment dies. So, rummaging through my drawer I came up with a 12VDC 1.0A power supply. Exactly what I needed.

Now both the PowerBook in the garage and the MBP have Gigabit ethernet. Well…approximately. :D The replacement switch runs into my other Gigabit switch, which is then run through a Gigabit Powerline adapter (the only way to get networking to the garage without having to run cable through the door or wall). So, yeah, approximately. :D

Oops, Network Utility had the interface set to FW. Here's a screen cap of the correct interface.

Slightly off topic, but what is going on with google. I've recently had 3 Google searches that were trash, went to Yahoo and found relevant results every time...

@Imixmuan At this point, it should handle all Internet tasks fine. Single Board Computers have made incredible advancements in recent years.

At the very least, they definitely have horsepower to spare.

I used my nearly-new-to-me iBook G4 to share an internet connection via Firewire with my 2007 C2D iMac (using my new 50-cent FW800/400 cable!), so I could do a little browsing. The iMac's wifi hasn't worked since upgrading it to unsupported High Sierra with one of dosdude1's patches (an expected and worthwhile trade-off), so it's been a hard-wired beast. Its former bridged ethernet connection from a Windows machine was unavailable while I installed Linux Mint on the PC. Fun times!
