I have done absolutely nothing with my PPC gear today, but to move them away from my feet for a while that is. In a safer place for a while to do some general households stuff. Guest room it is then. Some Intels seems to fit in between. The PPC and 68k beige boxes still hiding..

Wow... The reason I collect laptops. Anyway, even 35-40 laptops takes more place and weight than one thinks. So I stopped buying "new" machines, and play with the ones I have.
Still how can one resist when someone gives you a G5 or an iMacG3...I can't.

Your resolution seems to be that of 1280x1024, which is quite different to the standards of today.

I've never understood the appeal of this particular resolution due to its unique 5:4 aspect ratio, which looks weird on most CRTs as those are 4:3. It was standard for e.g. SGI or Sun workstations in the early 1990s driving huge 20" fixed-frequency CRTs, so maybe those had the correct aspect ratio (idk). And of course there are many 5:4 LCDs with that resolution, greatly increasing its popularity in the early-to-mid 2000s before widescreens took over. But for most CRTs out there, 1280x960 (4:3) is the real deal.

And don't get me started on the "standards of today". Because 16:9 is complete garbage for anything but watching movies.

Rant over. :)

Personal preferences are not to be argued.
:)
I use a 32:9 display as my main and only display with my Dual Mac Pro 2010. I need all the real estate it gives.
I had to give up my Studio Display 17" (1280x1024) maybe something like over 10 years ago. I still regret selling it.

ANOTHER
QUAD!!!
Video is reflashed 7800 GTX.
Prices (roughly converted from RU :D ): around 80$ system unit itself, +12$ power cable, +11$ for taxi :D. 101$ total - I think not so much for top model :). Will test it later (or tomorrow), it's around midnight here.

Is your beige a desktop or a tower? Your resolution seems to be that of 1280x1024, which is quite different to the standards of today. But I like it. And it was huge back when.

The tower it is.

And of course there are many 5:4 LCDs with that resolution, greatly increasing its popularity in the early-to-mid 2000s before widescreens took over.

Bingo. The spare LCD on my desk is Hyundai from that era, hence the resolution.

I've got quite heavy suspicion - quad2 is in heavy need of coolant service. Thermal calibration says:"ERROR CPU0 - CPU Intake Fan speed error. Check that inner door is secure and in place then rerun calibration". All doors in place & closed. Seller said he had to repair LCS, but I have doubts it was done correctly. BTW, in process of thermal calibration I smell overheated plastic. "The woman had no worries - she bought a pig"

It's not starting up :D. Was trying to swap intake fan assembly - no effect. There is cable in second quad, which have to be hidden somewhere in LCS, I think. But it runs straight above memory modules, which leads to difficulties in fan assembly installation. Now G5 starts, bongs & sometime later - red light & howl. Guys, feel myself a donkey :D .

That sucks, I hope you can get it fixed.

I guess the good thing about all of this is that you will learn a lot about the G5 cooling (the G5s are liquid cooled, right?) then you thought you would when you bought it.

Or maybe you can user this one as parts for another G5 if you can't get this one working but still want a PowerMac G5?

Not all of them, those with AGP & PCI - air cooled (don't quite remember, was it PCI-Ex when LCS came?). Here is topic about conversion liquid cooling to air :). I hoped to spent week-end in setting up that second Quad, and what I got... :D. Really, as they say: "what to make laugh God - tell him your plans for future" :D.

Tratkazir, you are a brave one with that purchase of yours.
I did not ever buy any of those latest generation PPC G5s. I remember and do believe that only one of the highest specced models was liquid cooled. It was this dual processor dual core Power Mac G5 2.5 GHz beast.
Apple Power Macintosh G5 "Quad Core" (2.5)

I wish you a lot of patience and good luck. You seem to have the competence already. 👍

I really would want to see that thing of your newest baby in motion, with pics, benchmarks or something. It was the last of the last. And I think the power supply was too, a 1 kW space heater it was. Even the Mac Pros of 2009-2012 was 980 W only. The latest Mac Pro 2019 gets the trophy though, with 1,4 kW. The strange thing - well kind of - was that Mac Pro 2013 aka 6,1 trashcan had only 450W PSU. And maybe one of the reasons it was a failure as a Pro computer. Besides the non upgradable GPUs, of course. Those two things are clearly related too.

And to try to keep on topic, I just might have heard PPC.. or was it BeeBeeZeee buzzing, and I took a picture of that.

Thank you for your good words. Primary goal for this Mac was (& I hope is) another Gentoo Linux installation, \cause tthis model is only capable of building everything itself (not very fast). Will talk with some people here about possibilityes, tomorrow.

I still do believe you are right. Everymac is not errorless by no means, I have asked for a correction to specs once myself, but it's the best there is at the moment.

Make sure your Quad has the single pump, dual while you think is reliable really isn't. The single pump is the most reliable. I have had my Quad since 2009 and it still works great. Never had to re-do the LCS.

I know this is offtopic, but it just shows how far apple has changed since the PowerPC days.

I just upgraded to an iPhone 6S Plus 128GB that I plan on riding into the sunset with (from a newer iPhone model). Updated to iOS 14.6 and now I’m getting notifications that my headphone volume is too loud. I have a USA 6S Plus which is supposed to allow you to turn that off as this an EU thing. But the option is missing!

Option missing or not, this is not acceptable. Like what if this was an aux cord?

Since this iPhone is permanently jailbreakable due to exploits I just disabled the health launch daemon which apparently prevents these notifications. Are you the user or the used? This is exactly why I can’t use Windows anymore and luckily Fedora Linux is good enough now for my needs.

Edit: It works, used iCleaner Pro to disable the health daemon!

As I've ranted endlessly in the past, Apple is now selling lifestyle products and has marketed themselves as a brand in the vein of Nike or Tommy Hilfiger and they're offering seasonal fashion pieces for posers. By and large, they're not really catering to people like us any more.
