Currently have 2 iPads, but only using 1

11” iPad Pro (2020) -128GB with the A12Z selling to a friend as not used for years
12.9” iPad Pro (2021) - 256GB with M1 is my daily home device

Buying the
13” iPad Pro (2024) - 512GB with M4

I dont really need to upgrade, but I want to. The screen, camera placement + the fact I don’t expect upgrades for at least 1.5 years if not 2 years is why I’m upgrading now.

planning to keep the M1 as a fall back device and maybe as a 3rd monitor when using universal control with my M1 iMac and 2 iPad Pro’s

I've got an M1 Pro, 12.9". I'm probably going to upgrade it, but I've managed to convince myself to wait to see them in the store to see if the form factor improvements of the iPad and the keyboard justifies the cost, and to check whether or not nano-texture is going to work for me or not.

I have both the Air 4 and Mini 6. They’re working just fine for me. I hardly use the Air because the Mini is so much more compact and convenient. I’ll probably upgrade the Mini to the 7 later this year just because I use it so often and the specs should be pretty solid. I keep the Air around for when I crave a larger display, but it’s not often.

I have a Mini 6 and plan on getting something in the 11” (maybe 12 if the next Pros become say 12 and 14) space WiFi only and keeping the Mini until it dies (especially as it has the sim tray and a future mini likely won’t.)

Nothing at the minute though. Air 6 being M2 with no Promotion and the Pros on M4 feels meh. M2 with Promotion or M3 without and I probably would have picked one up. I love the look of OLED but the lack of a RAM increase on the base makes it feel like it isn’t the time to make the leap to the Pro line. I don’t need it, so can wait to see what comes with the next refresh.

Before this week, all base storage…

iPar Air 5th gen - my workhorse, trade futures/stocks 6 days/week, Tweetdeck 24/7, some sports stuff and YTTV app.
iPad 9th gen cellular - second trading screen and internet backup if wifi goes down. Also gobs of downloaded podcasts.
iPad Pro 9.7 that has been software corrupted for a minute, with the best case ever made for an iPad. Lost some critical information on it, will reset it and figure out something to do with it.
iPad Mini 4 that rarely gets turned on but has a lovely display, not sure what to do with this.

I have ordered, received, will receive…

iPad 9th gen 256 cellular. Traded in the old one two days before the new event, it ran out of storage. Why 9th still? Hate, hate the power button fingerprint reader ergonomics with a case, inconvenient as heck for my use case. 9th gen unlocks lickety split with my thumb.

iPad Pro 11 cellular on the way, trading in my Air 5. Face ID, hurray. Wanted a higher end cellular unit with more memory, power too.

iPad Air 5 - writing/personal projects, music, image editing, browsing
iPad mini 6 - mainly e-reader, some browsing
iPad 10 - mainly used for work... and games xD

I see no reason to upgrade at all. There just isn't anything that really grabs me with these new ones.

I have ipad air 3 which i use for casual surfing and you tube etc (standby battery life lasts for weeks!), and a ipad air 4 with MKB as my pseudo laptop. Both serve their purposes well, so have no interest to upgrade them right now, but the new ipad pro m4 and m2 air (any M class ipad in fact as-well as mini 6) are excellent devices that will last years for those buying.

Going from a 2020 A12Z 11” Pro to a M4 11” Pro. Was it absolutely required? No, but the battery life was getting worse and I use it nearly every day, so felt worth it. I was offered £345 trade in from Apple which softened the blow a little.

7th gen iPad, thinking I'd like to upgrade to 13" Air. But I'm waiting until I can hold one in person on Wednesday to see if it's too ungainly. If it is, I'll decide between an 11" Air and 11" Pro.

2018 iPad Pro 11 and 12.9”, iPad Mini 6, iPad Air 4. Selling the mini - did not like it as much as I thought I would, got it to take to work, then we all started working from home. Selling the Air too, selling the 12.9 Pro, ordered the M4 13” Pro and keeping the 11” pro.

I'll be "returning" to the 11" form factor.
I got an iPad Pro M1 11" when it was released but later replaced it (and a MacBook Air) by the combination of 12.9" iPad Pro M1 (refurbished) and Mac Mini. Turned out iPadOS is just too limited for me as the main mobile machine and therefore I sold 12.9" Pro and Mac Mini to replace them yet again with a MacBook Air. At that time iPads were heavily overpriced in Europe so for a while I did not have an iPad and after missing it for some time, got me an iPad mini 6 from the refurb store. I have previously been a fan of the iPad mini but I just did not warm up to the 6th gen (mainly because the display is kinda bad compared to the Pros and iPadOS does not do a good job concerning screen usage on the mini).

So the mini will be sold and I ordered an 11" Pro M4 (base model with 256 GB and WiFi only). Think I'm going to love the OLED display.

In active use:
  • 2021 iPad Pro 11 - mostly used for bed/couch surfing and travel; not upgrading
  • 2021 iPad Pro 12.9 - mostly used on desk as 3rd display for messages, emails, video conferencing, and reviewing and marking up PDFs; not upgrading
  • 2021 iPad mini 6 - EDC mostly used for reading and surfing, some handheld gaming; will upgrade if the new Mini gets more RAM
  • 2022 iPad Air 5 - runs beta firmware, same use as 11” Pro; not upgrading

still rocking a 2017 iPad Pro 10.5” and will get myself a new one, just not sure which one. I am using the iPad mainly for journaling, FaceTime, browsing, emails and productivity (keynote, pages, numbers). Knowing that I always keep my devices for a very long time, I could go for the iPad Pro although I don’t need it for my use cases. Or save the money and get an iPad Air and the Magic Keyboard? Probably the latter is the wiser choice.

From 13” M2, 1Tb, 5G, Pencil, folio keyboard to 11” M4, 1Tb, 5G with pencil.
I had the 11” M1, but upgraded it because my son needed an iPad for school and because I hoped the 13” M2 would run less hot. (It didn’t, 13” is really brilliant for magazines, writing on (almost) A4 size is a bliss, but …) I ordered the 11” m4, 5G, 1Tb and the new pencil.
I liked the folio keyboard a lot and can’t imagine why apple didn‘t introduce a new one. The Magic Keyboard is nice, certainly but feels more like a docking station (that still can’t accept my 32” 5k display :) ). But at my desk I use the display, a keyboard and a trackpad, and use the iPad and Pencil as a notepad for reminders, phone notes etc.
The folio works in that setup perfectly, the Magic not so much. And €350 for the 11” is a lot of money for a keyboard, IMHO. If I look at a good mechanical keyboard and a magic trackpad, it still saves me half of that money.

I have an iPad 2018 with only 32 GB flash storage and I am gonna upgrade to an iPad 2024(2025?) 64 GB or 128 GB when this one becomes available. No need for a more expensive Air or Pro because I don't use my iPad very often. Only for surfing the web and watching YouTube video's. I prefer my Mac Studio and MacBook Pro for other things.
