i was just typing and expressing things, maybe too much, 1000 apologies!
our environment:
I did not wants an iPad, but last year i noticed many empty useless penstix n0 3017 f EE EEE markers that cannot be recycled just sitting in a plastic case atop 7 spiral 100 sheet sketch pads. what really changed my mind was buying copic multiliner .07 that held up for 2 days until the lines turned grey during drawing. i realized these plastic markers are not green (and definitely not black after a day of use) and i started using an iPad.

I had a 1st gen 12.9 pro and sold it for a 10.5. I found it to be too big to use in bed and I wanted a device to carry along with my Mac. The 12.9 wouldn’t fit in my bag alongside it. So far i’ve been so happy with my decision and have been using the 10.5 a lot more. Just curious what iPad most of you are using and why it works for you. :)

I use my iPad Mini 4 and have the original iPad. I sold my 10.5” to buy the (hopefully upcoming) new model.

12.9 iPP for drawing, PDFs, and as a light laptop with ASK. (Edit- forgot: and as a second display for laptop)

Mini 4 for reading, web browsing, phone calls and communication while at home, music airplayed to home speakers, short videos, background video while working, all quick tasks.

I’ve had iPads since the first one. Got a 12.9 Pro when they first came out, which I kept for a month. Too big and heavy. Replaced it with a 9.7 Pro which recently died, so I replaced it with a 2018 iPad 6.

Have to say, the iPad 6 is a great machine, especially for the price. The only downside for me is the audio. Speakers on one end only and much less volume than the Pro. But I think, for most people, the iPad 6 is probably all they need.

But I will likely sell my 6 and buy a new 11 inch Pro when they arrive in the fall. I really want better audio and will probably like the Face ID, since my old-man fingerprints never work all that well. (Have to make 5 copies of the same finger to get halfway decent results.)

Wish Apple would make a full iPad case again. No 3rd party full case I have tried has quite matched the Apple silicone case. Next time out, I will buy the Apple cover and a 3rd party back. Don’t like letting the back get all scratched up.

I have the 10.5" IPP and I absolutely love the device. I probably will hold on to it for another year unless Apple introduces OLED for iPad's.

Since I sold my rMBP and went all iOS with my devices, I essentially use my IPP for everything: web browsing, Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Video/PS Vue, email, iMessage, FB Messenger, NY Times, Spotify.

I have the 9.7” iPad Pro 256 GB and it’s faster than my old iPad 3. I use for web surfing, video streaming, email, reading ebooks via the Kindle app, listening to podcasts, and note taking.

I currently still use an ipad mini 2. It has served me well as a travel photog & videographer, but at 5 yrs old, it’s really showing it’s age. Not only does it have a cracked screen & broken home button, it’s unbearably slow on ios 11. It’s really time to upgrade. The ipad mini 4 is 3 yrs old and not an option. I am holding out hope for an updated ipad mini with pencil support, but if that doesn’t happen, i will nab the next 10.5” ipad pro.

I have a 9.7" Pro. I'm not thrilled with it, battery life is really not good. I had the first Retina iPad before that (iPad 3). Before that I used a MacBook and now I'm thinking about going back to a laptop and grabbing a 2018 MacBook Pro. I'm waiting to see what the new iPad Pros look like in September and I'll make my decision then. If the new iPad doesn't blow me away then I'm going back to using a laptop.

So, your main computing device is the iPad? You don't have a PC or iMac to supplement the iPad?

Well, as far as me... I've been an iPad user since iPad 2... been hooked ever since then. I believe I've had every iPad that's been announced except for the 1st generation. But it's not as if I had two or more at the same time, I've always replaced the used model with a new one.

But I currently have a iPad Pro 2nd generation 12.9". And I can't see myself going for anything lower than the 12.9" model, the screen real estate is a pleasure to have. I understand the criticism that many face of it being too large, but it doesn't bother me. I have the LTE version... along with 512GB, which is overkill tbh. But it's definitely nice not to worry about storage.

10.5 IPP 256 wifi only. Use it at the office to take notes with Apple Pencil. At home I use it to read, do social media, keep up with the news etc. Will probably upgrade to the new one in February 2019. I have had every iPad since the 2nd. The 10.5 will go to my granddaughter.

iPad Pro 9.7”, plan on upgrading to the new ones whenever they come out.

10.5 Pro. I use it three ways; With the Smart Keyboard on the go, at home on the couch or in bed with the Brydge keyboard, or by itself on site as a mixing surface at concerts.

How do you like the Brydge? I have almost pulled the trigger on one of these a couple times. People seem to agree that it's solidly built, but there are a lot of complaints about latency (lag when typing) and also about Brydge support and warranty. I'm a touch typist and have the Zagg for my 2018 iPad and really don't notice any significant lag when I type, so that is apparently just a Brydge issue.

What kind of mixing software are you using? I use my iPad with an 8 channel Zoom F8 recorder and also Logic Pro. :)

From what I've heard, the Brydge keyboards are generally pretty great if they're working well out of the box the first time, but if you get a lemon you'll know it right away, and there are FAR too many lemons coming out of that company.

iPad Air 2 64 gb WiFi. It’s still pretty fast after 4 years and several iOS updates, and since I only use it for limited things (watching video, reading, web browsing, some messaging), I don’t need the latest and greatest.

I'm a live audio engineer and lighting designer. The audio software I use is called ViSi Remote which is essentially remote software to communicate with my sound desks (Sound Craft Vi1). It's great because I can walk around the venue and ensure the mix is good away from my main desk.

The Brydge is awesome. My wife has one on her 9.7 pro and and I have one for the 10.5 pro. The ability to pull the iPad right out of it quickly is great. And the added weight is a selling point, as you can use it like a real laptop in any position (which I have found difficult with the smart keyboard which wants to fall down if not on a flat surface). As for lag: I thought I was having lag problems with my 10.5 but realized it was actually that I wasn't hitting the keys quite hard enough, so what I thought was lag was actually missed keystrokes essentially. Also, Brydge has great communication and warranties so I'm not sure why anyone would complain about that. They replaced one of my products pretty quickly when an arrow key stopped working. I'm a fan, I even use their batteries over Anker.

Very cool @anthony13  Going to give the Brydge some more consideration now. I like the protection my Zagg Rugged Book provides, but there are times I'd prefer a keyboard more like my 11" MacBook Air.

I've been a theatrical scenic and lighting designer for many years. :) http://www.boydostroff.com

Ha me too! I'm primarily a lighting designer, but do some scenic work as well. Started out as an audio engineer.
